Jan 16 2019 update: New helicopter and UI sounds, removed some of the shittier gun SFX, added a handful of weapons sounds in all categories, organized folder a bit better, and converted all WAVS to FLACS, resulting in a much smaller download. The file has also now been moved to the NVGT website with the help of Carter.

Original Post:
Hey there...
So I was sending this to someone anyway, and since unlike Dropbox, sync.com doesn't have unreasonable traffic limits I figured why not share it with everyone.

This contains modern war sounds, firearms, from pistols to heavy machine guns, explosions, jet fighters, helicopters, air raid sirens, marching soldiers ETC along with Mideval sounds including swords and knives, both draws and clangs, armor hits, some bow sounds, general battle ambience and the like... And also some futuristic warfare like laser, plasma, and electric weapons, alarms, and energy fields.
Then their are footsteps, gore, UI elements, and a various sounds folder that includes some more unique ambience I've come across, along with some police stuff, more contemporary alarms, crowd noises/reactions, and some cinematic FX.
I'll probably be improving it over time, needs more armored vehicles, high speed cars, horses, ambience and such, but I'll post it when that happens.
It won't all be useful to a game developer but most of it should be... And since it's all legal and completely free I figured it'd be appreciated no matter what.
Some sounds are only useful in specific applications, like at a distance or indoors, and many will need some trimming or volume adjustment. A handful of them only have a couple useful parts and the rest is just chaff. But that said, the quality ranges from decent to excellent for 90% of it, and some are professional quality.

Always remember to put the author's name in your projects for each sound or group of sounds made by them. A link to their page on freesound is even better...
It's easy to find their page, you just take the username  from the filename or pack name. for instance 386842__nioczkus__m1-garand-rifle.aiff and add freesound.org/people/ to it.
So then it becomes http://www.freesound.org/people/nioczkus
Technically, your also supposed to put a link to the license type in your credits as well, but Freesound doesn't make that easy outside of packs because it doesn't say which license the sound is using in the filename.
But, if you want to just cover everything easily, simply put these links in your credits when using anything from freesound. That way any sound you have is going to fall into one of those categories anyway...

Watch out for those last two if your making a project where money is coming in in any way (including donations unless you are a registered non profit) You'll need to look up each sound to make sure your allowed to use it. Chances are very good that you are but it's just to cover your ass. Thankfully as mentioned before, soundpacks have the license type shown for all sounds contained and that makes it allot easier to find that info.

Look up the individual sounds on freesound, then you'll find out. Easier with packs because the readme shows the license.

Crap I just realized that when I said give credit it sounded like I was asking you guys to put my name in your projects...
What I really meant was, always remember to put the author's name in your projects for each sound or group of sounds made by them. A link to their page on freesound is even better...

Oh, I somehow missed it. Can you host it again somewhere?

I don't speak as good as I write, and I don't listen as good as I speak.

2019-01-16 22:23:19

I got the message saying the it was taken down by the owner

2019-01-17 03:01:35 (edited by defender 2019-01-17 03:24:18)

Sorry guys I was stupid! LOL I forgot I removed it from my Sync before posting.
Thankfully though Carter was kind enough to host it on the NVGT website.
I've also converted all the wav files to flac, so the archive is much smaller now but actually contains slightly more as I've added a few things, mostly helicopters and some UI sounds.
I still desperately need to add some ambience, more magic sounds, and more UI sounds though, and I could probably remove most of the crowd sounds.
Here's the new link, first post has it as well.

Oops? That doesn't seem to work.

NP, excited to see what you may make with them in the future! You'll probably notice the fire cannon sound from LB in the futuristic samples... tongue

Thanks for posting a pack that is legal to use. Very excited to see what trouble I can get in to with these.

Well not much... Since their legal... Assuming you attribute properly of course.
LOL but I know what you mean.

2019-02-05 14:04:39

thanks a lot for it!
can you please convurt them to o g g to let us download with smaller size? thanks again

2019-04-07 05:36:42

I'm very late to this comment, sorry, but no I won't do that simply because you can't edit .ogg files without messing up the sound quality when you save it, and allot of those sounds need to be trimmed a bit to get the parts you want, or need their volumes slightly changed.
FLAC is the smallest file type that I know of that won't have that problem.
You should be able to find .ogg converters pretty easily though...

2019-04-07 10:00:00 (edited by Ethin 2019-04-07 10:15:26)

OGG is lossy, so converting it would lose sound quality (that's important in sound design and general sound engineering). If your using these sounds in games, that loss doesn't matter. But with sound quality it does. (Just don't convert them to DSD/DSDIFF -- you'll get files that are... oh... about... 1000 times the files original size, depending on what samplerate you upmix it to (we're talking in the MHz here).) And yes, that kind of upmixing is possible. It doesn't create any noticeable difference though. It certainly isn't a miracle format, so don't use it in games or general computer programs unless you like having your customers (along with you) waiting over 5 minutes just for the programs files to load and people running out of physical memory because the total size of the program exceeded it. And yes, with files like that it is definitely possible. Then again, my metrics were from a sound that was 21.7 MB in size and was 2 minutes and 9.28871 seconds long. Either way, wouldn't recommend it -- no one needs any kind of audio encoded at that kind of samplerate. It doesn't help that there are very few programs and libraries that can actually read the DSD format. But I've derailed the topic, sorry!

quick question. I'm thinking of uploading my sounds to freesound... They are professionally recorded, should I? That, and do you gane money from people downloading your sounds?
