Google Play Music and Youtube Red are under the same umbrella, so you are paying $10 for one package containing all the services.

@jack thanks I thought so but was not 100% sure.

@Orko make sure that the app on your phone has permission to use the mic, and make sure that the mic on the max is not muted. If that doesn't work maybe try clearing the current voice profile.

Thanks, Jack!

This unit is going back for an exchange, hopefully the new one won't have this Voice Match problem, but if it does, that would pretty much mean it's a software problem that will hopefully be fixed in a future update, but since I can't find anything on the internet about the problem, I suspect that this unit is defective and a new one will resolve the problem.

Fingers crossed.

I really wish Tasker was on IOS although IFTTT has a lot of cool things you can do I'd still like to try out Tasker with Google Home.

I doubt it will ever come to IOS for one simple reason. It would require customization and a level of access to the OS's root that Apple doesn't want people to have.

Yeah but maybe on a jailbreak?

IOS is gradually beginning to open more and more of the system to developers. I was firmly against this in the beginning, but it does have its uses. I hope they will eventually open enough to allow changes to the UI sounds.

You can't connect the dots looking forward.  You can only connect them looking backwards.

@Jeff, yeah, a jailbreak is the only possible way I can see an app like tasker working on IOS. But to integrate Tasker with something like the Google Home, I'm not sure if Apple's hardware will allow that kind of interfacing with non apple products. But we shall see. I'm just glad I'm out of the garden now, though I won't deny it still has its merits.

Hi.
Thanks a lot for such interesting and informative topic. I've just read through the whole topic with huge interest, since Google Home is currently being translated into my language, and it's going to be officially released in my country later this year.
I have reasonly got a Sonos One speaker, which supports Alexa. Alexa is not officially supported in my country, but I found a workaround, so I got it up and running. The thing I really enjoy regarding to Alexa is how every skills (apps) are fully accessible, because it's all controlled by the voice. That include games as well. I fear that's not the case with Google Home, meaning that only a few games, for example, will support Google Assistance. Any opinions on this? I have no experiences with Google Home at all. I'm currently pretty excited about Alexa, because of all those accessible games. I'm not trying to make a Google Home vs. Alexa. It just seems like Alexa is great for gaming, and Google Home is great for streaming services etc.

Best regards SLJ.

You could be right about that, but also consider that Alexa has been around at least a year longer than Google Home, I'm sure that there was a time when there weren't many games on the Alexa platform either.

For me though, I don't miss the games as there was only two that I played on Alexa and I wasn't into those two games all that much as I played them only on occasion.

If Google Home is focused on streaming, that's fine by me because 90% of what I did with Alexa was streaming services.

As far as I know Google Assistant supports all their games. There is a limitation to this for the home. For example I can only play the Emoji movie game on my phone with the Google Assistant app. Google Home will not read out the emoji’s and says I need to connect to a screen. This is the same for Hang Man as well. So if you want all of the games you might be better off just downloading the free app. I have seen a few more games come to google so they have a good amount. Strangest Day, Jungle Adventure, Bell’s Talking Castle, HP Trivia, Sorting Hat, HP Jokes, A riddle game, and more. I can't get the Pac Man game to work though. Check here to see what's new.

Hi.
Thanks for your replies. I'm so glad to see apps being made specially to the assistant as well. I look forward to see where it goes.

@slj
once google assistant comes to sonos one, we can  compare them side by side and choose between those two whenever we want.
the beauty of sonos one, that is. surely it does have some disadvantages, but i love it's sound quality

nah, They say that  they will add google assistant  sometime in 2018.
Basically when  installing sonos one you have to sign an agreement that tells you that sonos one is a beta product. that's why that some of the features of alexa is not working yet.
just make sure to keep the sonos one software up to date and read the  changelog.

Man! I can't wait until the replacement Max get here, the radio station I was listening to just played the most gawd awful piece of crap I've heard in a long time.

The radio station I prefer listening to is too far away to pick up here even though it's a local station, so I stream it through the Max, and when they start playing opera, I have the Max play classical music from Google Play Music.

Just curious SLJ, how did you get Alexa to work, did you use a DNS or VPN or something?

2018-04-16 22:51:07

@defender
just choose US or UK or canada  in the app settings for your region. something like that.

Yes. Just set your country to the US in the Sonos account and it'll work. No need to fake the address or anything. Just set the country to the US. big_smile

For Google Home to reccanise your voice you have to say Hey Google or Okay Google. For some reason pressing it and talking doesn't work.

Kingdom of Loathing name JB77

2018-04-18 11:32:22

It does not work because google disabled that in an update, because a bug I do not know about.
And does someone know how to enable google assistant on android 5.1 or 6.0?
Thanks in advance.

I'm having a problem with alarms on my new Google Home Mini. When I tell it to create an alarm at a specific time, I receive the verbal confirmation. However, my alarm doesn't go off at the specified time and when I check my list of alarms, I am told there are no alarms. What's going on?

Grab my Adventure at C: stages Right here.

2018-04-20 03:30:01

I just encountered the exact same problem with my Google Home Max, it must be a problem with the Google Home assistant and not our devices. I've also noticed the same problem with timers. I created a timer, it didn't go off, so I created another then checked what timers I had set and was told I didn't have any.

If this keeps up, despite Alexa's problems, I may go back to the Echo, at least simple basic function like alarms and timers actually worked.

2018-04-20 04:45:29

I know that for alarms if the internet goes out it won't go off but that is the only problem I know of. Google home can't do anything with out the wifi which is kind of sad.

After reading everything, Alexa is best for my home. I downloaded the Google Assistant app, but it just isn't for me.
