@musical professor, I'm afraid this is where you and I disagree. I like sound in games as much anyone, but for many textual games such as muds, browser games etc, games who's main input and primary method of interaction is! via the text the sound is an extra.
To me, complaining that a textual game doesn't have sound is like going into a restaurant, sitting down to have a wonderful meal complaining because you didn't get a free drink. Nice if it's there certainly, but it doesn't detract from the quality of the meal if it isn't.
of course, just as you can go into a cocktail bar and have a wonderfully prepared drink which has nothing to do with food, there are! games who's main interaction is via sounds. You wouldn't say for instance that a game like Swamp could work without having decent sounds, but that is the difference between a game that is predominantly audio and one which is predominantly text.
Anyway, if text games aren't your thing, that's fair enough, but A dark room is one of the finest examples.
For smugglers 5, I've not tried with nvda yet myself, but there is a pretty good guide in the articles room that tells you all about which keys to use in the game, since you need to switch windows and use the screen review mode.

With our dreaming and singing, Ceaseless and sorrowless we! The glory about us clinging Of the glorious futures we see,
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)
