That's the goal!

New Build of The Allure of Wanton Cove is ready to go!  We're rapidly coming into the final scenes of the main narrative (With several side stories still to tell once that is complete.)

"You're a washed up ex-detective, living your life one bottle at a time when your old partner and estranged friend comes knocking.  His son has gone missing, the police wont pursue the case, and he's run out of leads, so he comes looking to call in an old favor.

You hear him out, even if you have no intention of helping him out.  But then he offers you the only clue he has to the whereabouts of his son.  A hand written letter with a return address of Wanton Cove, the very name of which dregs up memories of the last horrible case you worked, a case that was never solved."

\

Changelog for .99:
-Wrote the night 9 scene.
-Day 10 Tavern Scene
-Day 10 Forest Scene
-Added two new pieces of art to the game.
-Added 5k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 316k words of content.

Had trouble with the upload.  Just uploaded it again and it looks to be working correctly now.  Sorry about the inconvenience.

AAh, it works now.
I won't have time  to play it during christmas and since its that type of game, I will have to wait till everyone goes back to work in a couple of weeks when I am alone, there are some religious types that I'd rather not play adult games in front of.

In that case, I hope that you have a wonderful time with family in the meantime.  Should have a new build up in two or three weeks, so who knows, maybe the main narrative will be complete by the time you get back to the game?

As you all likely know, I went on vacation over the holidays, and combine that with being sick right before the trip, I lost a couple of weeks of work time. I've been playing catch up ever since.

What I have for you all today is more than a bug fix, but less than an major build.

Changelog:

-Resolved a phrasing issue with one of Ms Sherwood's scenes as well as added an additional Depravity check to the scene to create a better range of reactions from the protagonist.

-Ran down and worked on some issues related to the old leatherbound tome.

-Wrote one new scene for the game as well as made a couple of minor rewrites.

-Added 3k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 319k words of content.

Enjoy the new build. I'll be working hard on Wanton Cove tomorrow as well as all week next week in the hopes of getting a new test build up by next weekend.

Very happy to hear that you're enjoying the game!

And thank you very much for the support, it is appreciated a great deal.  I find it to be simply amazing that so many people enjoy my work that I'm able to do this full time in place of a regular job!

Working on the next build of Wanton Cove right now.  Hope to have it into testing by the end of the week and a new build up about a week after that!

2018-01-09 01:59:45

@Ashaman thanks for the updates.  i will admit playing adult games has been something I've had to get used to since up until two years ago I suffered extreme genophobia,   which my wife has been able to cure  me of (one reason you'll see other topics from me about adult games on the forum since I'm trying to explore things and see where I stand currently, especially after discovering that some adult games are really awesome  games in their own right even if you don't have a specific interest in erotica).

I'll have a go at one of the latest builds when I can and see about expanding the  db  description a little, I'd also be interested to know if some of the previous games  you created on your patrion like puppet master would have similar  interfaces and  accessibility to wanton cove.

Btw, are you a wheel of time fan? That's the only other time I have  encountered Ashaman.

Oh, and one miner note,  since most people on this forum use screen readers, it's a little   long winded to have to wade through an entire previous forum message to get to a new reply, one reason why we just usually use an at sign and a person's name to address them, and  only use the quote function if you want a small  part of the previous comment to reply to.

It's not that there is anything directly wrong with using the quote function, it is just that with screen readers, the less miscellaneous info to get through, the better.

2018-01-09 03:30:08

@Dark

Sorry about the quoting, always done it that way, so might take some getting used to before I remember not to do it regularly.    I come from a time before smart phones and the such.  wink

You are very welcome for the updates.  I try to share as I release new updates, and this site is one of the first ones I usually update since I actually get a surprising amount of traffic from it.

As for "Adult" games being good in their own right.  Its a mixed bag really.  A lot of games are just about the porn, but increasingly I see people trying to tell a story first with pron just being a part of that story instead of the other way around.  I personally try to approach a story by asking "If I pulled all of the 'adult' content from the game, would it still be a complete and enjoyable story?"

I hope that you enjoy the game when you get around to playing it.  Its fairly dark, along the lines of what HP Lovecraft used to write    But expect to invest a substantial amount of time into the game if you start to play.  Its a little over 320k words of content as of right now, and even if you'll only likely see a third of that in any given playthrough, its still quite a bit of reading.  wink

My other projects are built in similar formats.

The Puppet Master is my first completed game and is quite a bit simpler (And smaller) than my other projects.  You can find the complete version here: https://www.tfgamessite.com/index.php?m … amp;id=579

Inheritance is the game I'm currently getting off the ground.  Its nowhere near as dark as Wanton Cove and is intended as something of a feel good story.  I've been very pleased with how well its resonating with people.  You can look up builds for that here: https://www.tfgamessite.com/index.php?m … amp;id=579

I've also got a project that's been on the back burner for quite a while called "Futa Apocalypse" where its basically a case of a zombie apocalypse game with the flesh eating zombies being replaced by sex crazed shemales.  Its got a pretty good following, but if I'm being honest, its as much porn as story.  https://www.tfgamessite.com/index.php?m … amp;id=446  I don't expect to ever complete it in its current form, but I have entertained the thought of rebooting the setting at some point (Its a project that was well beyond my abilities at the time.  Rebooting it would be largely for the sake of doing it right mechanically.  tonguehttps://www.tfgamessite.com/index.php?m … amp;id=446

I've also been planning a post apocalyptic game along the lines of Fallout for more than a year now.  When Wanton Cove is completed, I'll be shifting that to the forefront to start production in that next (I like having two active projects at any given time.  Besides, with my ADHD, its helpful to have somewhere to shift my focus any time my attention starts to drift.)

Wheel of Time fan?  Its been a long time since someone has asked me that.  Yes!  I really loved the series.  I was introduced to the series around the time the third book came out and loved every minute of it.  One of the true epics of our time!

I think I covered all the questions/comments you had.  If I missed something, don't hesitate to bring it up again.

Hope that you enjoy Wanton Cove when you get around to giving it a proper play!

2018-01-09 04:09:06

Thanks  Ashaman, sorry about the quotes, your not the first person to mention this and I  probably ought to put something in the faq.
While I have read and enjoyed Wheel of time, mrs. dark is a major! wheel of time nut, indeed i bought her an Ais sidai replica ring and Green aja pendent in sterling silver for  Christmas, as well as some Ashaman dragon  cufflinks for me.
We're actually  reading through Brandon Sanderson's stormlight archive at the moment together which is remarkably similar to wheel of time  even down to the audio version being narrated by Michael cramer (someone my lady is a huge fan of).

Books to me are  probably next to oxygen, and as well as being admin here I also  write up reviews for www.fantasybookreview.co.uk.

Anyway getting back to games,  interesting you mention   post  apocalyptick,  since what started me in on the idea that adult games could  have a lot of interest in and of themselves as games aside from the adult material was Flexible survival,  which was a game I've been wanting to  play, tried several times before I got married but  found too uncomfortable even as I liked the world and  mechanics.

I was quite surprised how well put together the game is, and when I investigated the multiplayer how nice the  community was too (you can  find me on there as Nanite shifter peri).

It's also interesting that you describe  inheritance as a feel good game, since as I said I have reservations about the story there, but I'll try wanten cove and see what I think to things, though it's also likely I'll need to at least have a look at puppet  master if  so I can give it a page on the database here.

Very cool with the Wheel of Time stuff.    My wife likes the books, but never really obsessed over them the way I do.  Guess you win some, you loose some.  wink

Not familiar with the Stormlight series, but I DID enjoy his work finishing Robert Jordain's series.  Will have to look into it when I have time.

Completely agree with the sentiment on books.  I LOVE to read.  I only read about two books a week anymore, but until I started writing regularly, I was averaging somewhere around 300 books a year.  No such thing as too many books, and no matter how much time you have to read it is never enough!  I prefer Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but also read a lot of Horror and Adventure, . . . with a little bit of everything else mixed in as the mood strikes.

Flexible Survival is a pretty good game.  I've enjoyed it a great deal, though one has to go into it expecting to experience a bit of strangeness in places.  I look that one up every few months to see what is new, . . . probably over due for another play.

I've always been impressed of the adult game community, especially among game communities that focus on more text heavy games.  Most of the people I've had the privilege of meeting have been kind, intelligent, and helpful.

Inheritance.  The game has a dark undertone at the start and involves a pair of girls who have been mistreated in the past.  While there are options to allow you to take advantage of them, the primary focus of the writing is to provoke a nurturing and protective impulse in the player.  The idea is to take a pair of girls what are 'broken' in their own ways, then put the player in a position where they want to make their lives brighter.

I've seen some really amazing discussion about the game and how people view the characters.  For example, here is part of a conversation on another site about the intro from a while back:

"Hm...I am conflicted (I know it's only a very very very early version of this game, still....)...the writer is good at making me question what the best path is (especially since there's no outcome yet, because that choice ends this version of the game!)...I mean of the two choices here (I will never be a total abusive asshole, not even in a game so for me there's only two choices here, not 3 (abusing her is out of the question!)...no, I can't even roleplay that! I can roleplay a greedy person, a person driven by revenge, hell even someone who's a racist should I really need to etc. etc. but not someone who's just an evil asshole!):

- stop Anna from having sex with you (either by saying you aren't even remotely intersted in her, which would in my case be a lie, not to mention totally uncalled for! Or by saying that if there's going to be sex then it will be consensual (which more or less means she has to initiate it without thinking that she has to, but because she wants it!))

- have sex with her but make it special for her (the absolute opposite to the uncle who basically used her as a living sex-doll!)

The first choice seems to be the better one at face value, but on the other hand: She's enjoying herself in choice two (she clamps down on the protagonist's head when he's eating her out because she has an orgasm and she seems to like kissing, too) and it seems to establish a better connection between the protagonist and her (not to mention that giving someone who's had very few good things happen to them a very good one seems like something you really should do)

I really don't know which is the morally superior choice...:(

ps: I love it when games challange me like that, sadly most AAA-Developers have stopped making games that really challenge you like this sad "

I was particularly proud of that comment (And some of the conversation that followed) because it showed me that people authentically cared about the girls, that they felt called to do what they felt was right instead of just wanting to satisfy their baser urges.

Make no mistake, the game may have some dark undertones in places, but ultimately its about bringing light and joy to the lives of two girls who have never experienced real kindness before your arrival.

@ashaman I am very interested in Inheritance.  . oo also the post-apaliptic game would also be very interesting. when I was sighted I was a big fan of fallout. I wish you success in your endeavors.

2018-01-09 17:11:14

@erik-pro

Hope that you enjoy both then!  Inheritance has a link a couple of posts back, of for that matter there's a thread for it around these forums.

There's an old demo of Aftermath (The post apocalyptic game) floating around as well, but I'd have to go digging for it to find it.  Basically there is just a little less content for it than there currently is for Inheritance, and its a bit more advanced mechanically (Actually going to convert it to a system that's very similar to Inheritance for the sake of being able to share mechanical components between games.)

2018-01-12 20:52:05

@ashaman one of the lovely things Mrs. dark and I do together  is read, we usually have a book or audio drama each and then one we  do  together. I myself like fantasy sf and the odd horror,  and while Mrs. Dark's tastes overlap mine to a large extent I tend to like darker things than she does (we have quite some  debates about the merrits of George R R Martin), she also tends to read more crime and psychological fictio tha I do.
so  often what we read together is suggested by one or other of us, though sometimes it's something  new to both of  us. Indeed releveant to this discussion is that one of the major ways Mrs. Dark  helped  considerably with my genophobia was by reading through and discussing   Alex Comfort's The joy of Sex and more joy with me, which was a very pleasant experience (btw as  a game creator who works in the adult or erotic areas I'd be willing to bet money you've red Alex comfort).

We also have a lot of WoT debates, including which Aja we  think people are (she is so green it's unbelievable). You can find the interesting jewelary for WoT as well as many other things here: badalijewelry.com

We also got some Talent pipes from patric rothfus mane of the wind for our  first aniversary.
As far as games go, I do find your intentions with inhereitance and the quote you mentio interesting, and will likely replay  both games  as and when we have time, though at the moment there is so much  I need to play and write up it's not funny.

Heck even as far as adult games go I need to do a page for corruption of champions, nabbers empire, and consid continue my discussion with the CoC to see if we can get the sf themed rpg trials in tainted space accessible, that aside from a hero's call,  a hole bunch of Ios and alexa stuff etc.

@eric, if your interested in post  appocalyptic games with an adult bent, i'd highly recommend both flexible survival in it's single player and multiplayer forms. The single player is an ever expanding rpg with  fascinating story and combat and very weird monsters, the  multiplayer a  great and  detailed browser game and mud.

I'll not say more, but if you want more info check out the recent topic in new releases, or indeed the flexible survival page on the db which just got a major addition.

@Dark
Sounds like a very fun habit.  My wife and me read some similar work, but for the most part we do our own thing (She likes books about special needs people, true crime, and drama.  I prefer Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, and Adventure.  Most of our overlap is between drama, Sci-Fi, and Horror.)  Where I'm lucky though is that she likes playing hack & slash games with me (Spent a lot of hours playing Buldar's Gate, all of the Gauntlet games, and similar) as well as a small number of other games.    Its a wonderful thing when we can find someone to share our passions with.

Alex Comfort?  You'd have lost that bet.  I'm actually not familiar with him.  Looks like I can get his three book box set fairly reasonable on Amazon, so I'll likely pick that up before too long.  wink  I actually grew up reading the Kama Sutra and similar works though (The real one that details FAR more than just sex, not the sex position guide they slap the name onto all the time.)

Very nice selection of Wheel of Time jewelry on the site.  I see a couple of other really neat things over there as well.  Thank you very much for the link.

I know how time can be.  I spent 17 hours writing for Wanton Cove over the last two days, pretty much everything but family was put on hold for that time.  Got a bit of reading and game playing to catch up on this weekend.  wink  You'll get back to my projects when you have time, I just hope that you enjoy them when the time comes.  (Just finished up the primary ending for Wanton Cove yesterday, the new build should be out around this time next week once there's been time to properly test things.)

I always preferred CoC to TiTS, the fantasy setting appealed to me over the sci-fi one.  Granted, his work is very good, and the fact that Fenoxo basically put Adult Text Based Games on the radar, went to show me that it could be done and in turn spurred me to start work on my own projects.

2018-01-13 02:36:30

Well with Mrs. Dark she hadn't tried games before we got married, though she loves  crossword and trivia type games (we have now started d daily runs of trivia games with our new amazon echo dot which is nice to do together).

She hasn't got heavily into detailed rpgs etc yet, though has tried some audio  arcade games and the like,  and she absolutely loved    live tabletop rp when we managed  to do  it.

I actually write myself,  though at the moment I am still! trying to finish a doctoral thesis  in philosophy (despite being slapped with multiple extentions), and hope to get more original work done when i've finished that,  though even the bits of writing I do for this site ad other places can get fairly intensive.
I always had the impression that Alex Comfort was sort of the authority on these sorts of things discussed in a fairly calm and adult  h (he even  has a page on wikipedia0, and I did find the fact he's both very  honest, and perfec tly straight forward quite helpful, indeed the way he describes sexual therapists dealing with people with intensive genophobia was pretty much how my lady dealt with me instinctively.

Btw, as  regards coC I've not played much of the game so far since basically I was  doing an access check, though  did like the world and writing as well as the combat mechanics.

I  was also trying to compare the CoC interface to that in trials in tainted space t see  what is wrong with the latter and what to discuss with the developers, though whether any changes will   be made access wise to label the buttons i am not sure (sadly with the CoC  remake Mod I've had no  response whatsoever, which usually means a no go in terms of accessibility).

one game I'm not certain of at the moment is fall of eden which is on Fenoxo's site, since on the one hand it seems absolutely impossible to click on anything with a screen reader, on the other the  hotkeys for the various  shortcuts work fine, the problem I have is determining which  hotkey corresponds  to which thing.

Have you played fall of Eden? can you say anything about the interface/ it seems a similar sort of thing to CoC though with a slightly  slightly different setting.

I will say with adult games generally sice it's been an area of games I've not bee able to play, part of the reason I'm dealing with a lot of these now is  simply that of experience, since hay, I like games!

With our dreaming and singing, Ceaseless and sorrowless we! The glory about us clinging Of the glorious futures we see,
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be

2018-01-13 03:22:33

@Dark
I've been trying to get my wife to play story driven RPG games for probably 15 years now, but she just wont give it a chance, . . . . that said, ask her to play tabletop RPGs and she's almost always ready to go, . . . and miniature games she likes even more than that.

Writer huh?  Well, if you ever have the urge to write for Inheritance, I actually set that project up with the intention of including user created content.   If that's something that ever interests you now, or in the future, feel free to let me know and we can discuss details.  wink  For that matter, I've got a writing contest going right now:  https://www.patreon.com/posts/inheritance-15637040

The thing that always bothered me about CoC and TiTS is how he ended one and started the other.  It felt like he lost heart at the end of CoC and rushed things, it felt to me like it lacked the depth of much of the other content.  Besides, the game was good enough that there was plenty of room for further expansion, so it was a shame to see it fall short of its potential as well.  TiTS is a lot of fun, but to me it never really had the same depth to it that CoC did (I never minded the interface though)

I've tried sending messages to people involved with CoC and its mods, but questions, comments, and even offers to contribute were never responded to.  I gave up on that a long time ago.  Matter of fact, one of the reasons that I try so hard to reply to every message I receive is because it always bothered me that most developers never responded to anything I ever said, and I thought the world of those who DID take the time to reply, even if it was just a few words.  Besides, I enjoy staying engaged with the fans of my work.

2018-01-13 04:25:56

Well Mrs dark does enjoy story games, I'm just trying to get her into mudding at the moment, though that will go better now Avg isn't blocking her computer from doing anything! big_smile.
I don't think inheritance would be where I'd want to start writing myself, I'd prefer to look at my own projects, though I have considered submitting creatures for either Flexible survival single or multiplayer if I can  get my head around the programming syntax used.

In terms of CoC, there is apparently a mod that has a huge amount of extra content continually created called CoC revamp, however that has an even worse interface for screen  readers than  Trials in tainted space, at least in Trials in tainted space some of the buttons controlling in game choices  are    labeled in a screen reader friendly way, while in the CoC revamp mod none of them are.

it's a shame really, especially considering how accessible the original CoC is, but there you go.
Hopefully my  enquiries on the  fenoxo  forum will go somewhere.

@Dark
Just have to say, we're both very lucky men to have wives who share at least some of our passions.  big_smile

Well, if you ever decide that you're interested in writing for the game, its an open invitation.  Another thing I will sometimes do is write over on chyoa.com.  Sometimes I contribute to stories I enjoy, other times I start stories as a way to flesh out ideas and gauge interest in potentially making it a game.

I hope you're able to reach someone who's willing to help you out.  I've contributed to a small number of other games, and I can honestly say it is an incredibly rewarding to see your work appear in a well loved game.

2018-01-14 00:53:01

I've not run across Chyoa.com before I'll have to check it out, since i am interested in writing,  though I  suspect I'll look into the actual publication route first before I get too much into coding. At the moment most of my writing has to go into finishing my doctorate, that bits that don't  go into maintaining this site and writing book reviews of course ;D.

The fact that I am lucky to have met my wife, and even luckier that we actually    fell in love and got married is soemthing I remember every morning, indeed I'm pretty much the living embodiment of all those cliches about spending life waiting for that one right person big_smile.

then  Mrs. dark and I are pretty much a walking cliche anyway, we once counted how many cliches our relationship went through  and realized that if we told anyone we'd  sound like an extremely bad romance novel big_smile.

Anyway before this gets too fluffy methinks I'll stop big_smile.

CHYOA.com is a mixed bag.  Its all erotica, choose your own adventure style.  The writing ranges from meh, to exceptional and there is a TON of stories to explore.  Its worth a look, but I suggest starting with the top 10 list.

Good relationships are hard to come by, and it sounds like yours falls into the realm of extraordinary, even if only the two of you may ever know it.  Treasure every wonderful moment and always hold those moments close to your heart.  Too few people are truly happy these days, its always nice to know that there's someone out there who thinks to themselves every morning that they're living a fairytale life.  It reminds the rest of us that its possible.  wink
