Hi all.
I'm really proud to announce that CoolForTheBlind now is hosting a Three-D Velocity server, where you can battle with, or against your friends online.
How it all works.
Here is the relevant instructions, directly copied from the manual:
New in Three-D Velocity version 2 is the ability to pit your skills against other aspiring blind pilots. You can play the game online with other people by connecting to a TDV server that someone is hosting.
To connect to the multiplayer server, select "Multiplayer mode" from the mode selection menu. You will be asked to enter an IP address or domain name to connect to, and then asked for a call sign. The call sign is what other players will see you as on the server. You will receive status messages along the way as TDV tries to connect. Three-D Velocity tries to connect through several ports in case some of your outgoing traffic is blocked. These include ports 4444, 4445, 4567, 6969, and 32000.
If the game cannot connect to any of these ports, you will be informed of this and returned to the main menu.
Once you are in the multiplayer game, several options become available.
• Press W to get a list of all players in the hangar. This is a list of players who haven't joined a game yet. You can press ENTER on a player to send them a private message. This command is available in a game as well.
• Press Grave to send a chat message to all players in the hangar. This message will be sent to players who have not joined a game yet. You can also chat in a game this way.
• Press F8 to read the previously sent message, and F9 to read the next message. F10 will copy the current message to the clipboard.
The online game menu has several options from which to choose.
• Join the free for all game: This option will put you in the Free for All ("FFA") room. An FFA game is created by the server and is always open. Any number of players can enter and leave at will and there are no rules like team alliances to contend with. Essentially, it's an open game for you to blow up anything and everything you see.
• Join an existing game: This option lets you join a player-created game. You can join one-on-one death matches or Team Death games. If no games are available, you will be placed at the top of the online game menu. Otherwise, you will get a list of the currently available games.
• Create a new game: This option lets you create a one-on-one death match or Team Death game. One-on-one death matches will take place between you and any number of other opponents. The difference between this type of game and the FFA is that this game is closed. Once the host starts the game, no more players can join. When there is one player remaining, the game will end. This is a battle to the death.
Team Death games allow you to pick a team whose ally you will become. There are a maximum of four teams from which to choose. Alliances cannot be changed in-game once chosen.
In a Team Death game, the last team to have players will be declared the winner. Members are scored individually based on the number of opponents shot down, and at the end of the game, all remaining team members on the winning team will earn points. Therefore, if you would like to enjoy the best benefits to playing on a team, you are encouraged to actively engage in battles. Circling above the action while your team members do all the dirty work won't help you.
Spectator Mode
When you join a game or start a new game, you will have the option to be a pilot or spectator. When you are a spectator, you can track other players and move amongst them. Press L to select a player to track.
When you track a player, you will hear the game from their perspective. If you get shot down during a pilot match, you will be given the option to go into spectator mode. You can observe the rest of the game this way. To exit Spectator Mode, press ESCAPE.
Downloading and connecting.
First, if you haven't done that already, download the game from the following link:
https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-Vel … latest.zip
Extract the zip file and run TDV.exe to start the game.
Then, connect to the following address: server.coolfortheblind.dk
Thanks a ton to Munawar for releasing the server part of this awesome game as opensource.
If the server runs stable, I'll offer this as an official free to play server for the game. I won't try to stop other people from hosting a server.
I hope you'll enjoy this. Happy batteling and blasting...
Feel free to contact me privately if you have something in mind. If you do so, then please send me a mail instead of using the private message on the forum, since I don't check those very often.
