I've never run out of places to go as a necro; part of the problem I think, is that people don't actually explore and thus maximise the amount of xp they can get from places. I know there is this elitist mindset that once you reach a certain level you need to cap cap cap cap cap, but honestly, half caps and the like are worth getting because some xp is better than none at all, and also, because you're getting xp without taking as much of a risk on occasion, which means you're getting more than the people having to sit down and rest and regen.
the kind of char you choose to play, however, does have a massive effect on the entirety of your soloing ability... A little more on that in a bit. If you ever get into groups and get attached to them, you'll eventually start to rely on group members to cast certain things on you or do certain things for you, which, once you try soloing again, will bring back the obvious fact that you didn't attempt to learn how to do those things yourself. alter is the kind of place where every bit of advice is worth checking into at least a little. Once again, the elitists will discourage you from buying or grabbing or holding onto lower level equipment, sometimes because they want to hoard it all to themselves, at other times because they are simply elitists who know more and know better and know smarter and know greater and know all of these things and more than you... So they say. the auction block is a trollfest waiting to happen since all transactions are conducted in annonymoty and no one troll is going to admit to possibly considering a piece by bidding on it and saying they did. that having been said, there are still, yes, still people on alter aeon you can learn to trust and depend on who will steer you in the right direction.
As for chars and soloing? I imagine there is at least 10 different combos you can use to maximise the experience, but I'll focus on why druid and necros have just about everyone beat, and why you definitely want either mage or cleric as your second class. First, every minion or companion you can summon into your solo group, as it were, makes differences... A difference in the probability of your being hit, a difference on how fast a mob is going to die, a difference on how much mana you're going to have to use, a difference on how many hitpoints you're going to lose, a difference on other material resources you'll have to depend on. Skeletal spiders might seem trivial once you reach higher levels, but if you're maxing out your necrocast and you have tons of teeth, recasting and recreating them against a mob or mobs can sometimes provide that little bit of edge and the space needed for more powerful minions to get in the killing blow. Bone armor and bone shields provide nice armor class and saves against breath and gas attacks along with HP, but might you be able to find equipment that can do the same so as to not compromise your minions? The answer is yes, and it usually doesn't come in forms you might think it would. If you have a weightless and a storage locker, don't discard pieces unless you know they definitely don't apply to you. If you have neither, create an alt character, preferably a warrior, who can hold it for you. Sounds tedious? Feel free to donate and get some credits; we won't judge you for it. The point here is that you want to hold on to uniques, exceptionals, epics, remarkables, etc. You never know when you'll meet a druid that can carve out the minuses or carve in the pluses you didn't have before. One of my favorite sets of equipment along with displace, armor and shield on, now gives me an ac of 212 with a fair amount of zapsave, but goodness only knows what a high level druid can do to it... I'll let you know when I find out.
I've mainly talked about necros above, so lets cover druids a bit. Still air is a spell I won't be learning for a bit, but how I wish I could. where I might find equipment to guard myself against dragons and the like owing to breath attacks, druids can do it with their mana alone, without having to make many sacrifices owing to something else which I am somewhat jealous of called spellstaffs. Remember that weightless I mentioned earlier? Store spellstaffs in it and stop using up all of your mana. Vipers poison, wolves trip, bats drain your blood, boars go insane, bears get raging mad, lions and panthers will shred you up! Need a tank? If its temporary, pull a Trump and build a wall. If it's a bit more permanent, use an elk, a moose, a shambling mound or liveoaks. Take off your druid equipment once you're done summoning your creature comforts and put on a regen set. Pull out one of those spellstaffs and away we go!
and the secondary class? Mages regen mana faster than any other class on the game, while clerics will give you a considerable amount of HP along with access to healing and protection a bit earlier on. Necro mage? Summon an ebony scaled demon and don't worry so much about your manaregen. Necro cleric? Summon the energetic green one and heal up your minions and yourself on occasion. Druid mage and feeling squishy? Keep training that wis and int and we'll see you at level 20 mage when you can learn displace... by then, you should also know shield and armor. Visit smuggler's cove and run some low level xp over there when you're not questing it... You might just find yourself a little something. Druid cleric? Presence is your friend; save some pracs for it. You'll heal at level 22 in that awesome manaregen set.
From my perspective, which is not the end all and be all and which I would never want you to take as such, I'd say that clerics provide wonderful leaders owing to their healing abilities, mages are great blasters and overall elementalists. Warriors can never seem to be both tanks and hitters and thus I would never trust as solo chars, while thieves are brutal with sneak attacks initially but cant' depend on that if they have to stay in a fight for too long. In conclusion, I'd suggest that if you are truly in to soloing you really should consider necro or druid as a primary, cleric or mage as a second. Those who are going necro druid or druid necro have my respect... I wish you the best, but methinks your control points shall not sustain your ambitions. :d
When life gives you oranges, demand lemons since everyone else is obviously getting them.
