Like assult_freek said, it's
relaly dependant on your client, i can't make a mud/moo accessible, to
screen readers. The most i can do is provide no graphics...

Hi,
AAron. You make Mud/MOO/Mush or whatever by learning
the appropriate language (C C++, MOO, stuff like that.) Also, a side
scrolling text based game, explain. It wouldn't work. Text based games
arn't side scrolling.
Again, anyone got any ideas? Feel free to post
here, or email me.

What about Jason SW? I think he had one running a
little while ago. He used WinMoo (do a search for it). Why would you want
to make one if you don't have any ideas for content? I mean that seems
sort of pointless.

1. Jason didn't have a playable MOO, still in
early developement
2. I'm not starting it for a wile
3. Jason's server
died, and i have winmoo
I'm asking for ideas cause i'm not starting
it for a long while, is why. See if i can implememt things.
If you
can set window eyes to read all changes on screen you can use GMud. In Jaws
it's called "screen echo". Depends if the function exists.
As for the
mud, interesting idea. I don't know if we need another mud, but I'd give
it a try if you got it running. First you need to think setting and theme.
Is it fantasy? Sci fi? Is it in a particular world or across several?
You
might say how can a fantasy game be across multiple worlds, either have
continents that are massive and can't be travelled between other than
certain points or have different planes or such like.
You also need to
remember how much work a mud entails, and the financial costs of keeping it
running. How will it be funded? Remember to account for technical failures,
especially if you intend to set up the server at your house on a broadband
link.
Not trying to shoot you down, just throwing a few things about and
seeing if any of them help at all.
ok.
about the sidescroller mud.
text-based games are not side scrollers.
you are right.
but listen to this. i am planning on making a lot of
sidescrolling areas, and, not all of themw ill be accessible til a certain
level, for security to the user, example: a level 10 user can't access a
level 20 area, but can access one for a level 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, if
he has the skill. If a sidescroller doesn't work... then i can make a
normal one, with the same princapal. many people/users die in an area not
sutable for their levels. how does this "security for the user" feature
sound?
and, sidescrolling muds. i love isde scrolling games. there are a
lot in arcades. well... hmm. i dunno what to really say, it may not work.
or, it won't even work at all, but i think it's worth a try.
Hi,
I got a server, and he's giving it to me for free. It's good enough
to get me started, but you're right about the technical issues.
Right,
the level 10 getting into the level 11 areas, it's not like that really. I
don't want a really automated mud. For exmmple, if a person wants to get
into a level 300 area at level 10, they can. It's just life life. If you
want to get hit buy a truck, you can.
I'm not going Fantacy. The reason
i'm making another mud is bercause all the others suck in my oppinion.
Accept godwars...
hi,
assassin here.
i have an idea, i'll write it up in my spare time
today and send it ya,
best reg
p.s it's a sci fi cyborg kinda mud
i'll
give you the basics in my write up, and then come up with the details.
i've changed my idea
it is now a fantasy where you step out into the wild
to fight evil creatures and just try to survive.
i have written the
introduction and i will also write up an introduction level where you come
to grips with your character's abilities.
KNIGHTMAIRE
You are a young
adventurer, you have just become of age and have decided to pick up the
sword.
Your townspeople are feeling disappointed at your decision to go out
into the wild as they may never see you again.

If
anyone wants to try a non-fantasy mud
www.awakenedworlds.net
Based on the
Shadowrun roleplay game. It's in the third edition setting, 2064. The sci
fi elements are mild since guns are still very similar, but it's a welcome
change to medieval weapons. Hand to hand weapons and magic still exist for
those who really must get medieval, and you can also enter the alternative
world of the matrix as a hacker.
It can be fairly accessible if you type
the following:
prompt >
toggle ooc
This reduces the prompt to a simple
greater than sign, and turnns off the out of character discussion channel.
Setting the wimp level for auto flee is also recommended.
Read the back
story available when you log in or create a character, otherwise the world
would just seem silly. Also be aware to create a character you just type in
a name, and if it asks you if that was right it means the name isn't taken.
There's a big load of starting gear available, some sort of electronic
vision is recommended for spotting invisible magicians, unless you're
awakened yourself. Smartlinks seem to do nicely. As soon as you can get a
credstick, some shops will only sell to people using a credstick which acts
like a credit card, and work to getting 30,000 for an apartment
rental.
And remember:
Watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo,
and never, ever cut a deal with a dragon.
Heh, i founed that game a while ago, too, Awakenedworlds rules...
Also,
the mud, lemme just tell ya, i screwed it up last night...lol, so, my word
of advice today? Be careful with playing with linnux...it can and will
screw up if you let it, Lol.
See ya, I'm gonna do some more codin i
think...Bye
malloc:
I just found it, it's fun though. I had trouble dealing with
vehicles till I decided to start using a remote control system, it's a good
laugh. If there's more than one vehicle of the same type in the room just
remote control it through one of the exits.
Back on topic:
If the mud
gets working let us know. Testing will *not* be a problem, grin.
