Hi,
This is off topic, but I need help. I got the at&t natural voices from

a friend and they wouldn't work. I tried to install them, and jaws couldnt

detect it as a sapi 4 synthesizer and it wasn't in the list of sapi 5

voices either. Then this weird error came up and jaws shut off and it said

that the system was shut down to prevent damage, and I should remove my new

hardware or software...I knew it was the voices, because it was the only

thing i installed that day. So when I finally got it to start up again I

deleted it. Then i got the voices again from a  different friend, and it did

the same thing. I deleted them before they could cause an error. Can anyone

help?

Did you install the Sapi 5 Driver for JAWS? With that sapi5x.jls file

in the JAWS directory?

If he

said the voices weren't listed I'm assuming he had the drivers set up.

Unless you didn't change the synthesiser setting, which I doubt.

Just in

case:
Look under change synthesiser in the language menu. If Sapi 4 or Sapi

5 aren't there run the JFW setup again, and choose custom. In the list of

synthesisers to install support for check the options for sapi 4 and sapi

5.

Sapi

5 is there, other Sapi 5 voices work. But the At&t is not listed in person

combo box of Sapi 5. And Sapi 4 detect doesn't detect it. And, what about

the error?

I

couldn't possibly comment about the error. What works fine on 99% of

computers can often not work on one particular machine for no obvious

reason.

If it's a sapi 4 voice there's no point looking under sapi 5

though, it isn't backwardly compatible. If you look for 4 you should get 4,

otherwise if you look for 5 you only get 5. Maybe the install screwed up and

didn't register the voices somehow?

If it's an install error, and it

keeps happening, it's most likely system incompatibility.

You did get

the voices from a reputable source didn't you? I just have to ask. I don't

know whether the AT&T voices are free or have to be bought, but if you got

a... unofficial copy shall we say, there is a much higher risk of errors

like this.

I'm not accusing you of anything, I just had to ask and get

the possibility out of the way. I've heard of someone who got an unofficial

copy of Dectalk 32 which worked, mostly, with a small glitch. Can't

remember exactly what the glitch was, more of a nuisance I remember.
