hi,
When I call someone or someone calls me on Skype for Windows 8.1, apps like audiogames eg. The road to rage's volüme gets lowered and I have to turn up the volume of the app from the volume mixer. If you tell me to use the Skype for desktop, hell no!

Hi,
I also noticed this problem, and after digging around a bit, I discovered the following solutions:
1. Go to the control panel.
2. Find the item called sounds.
3. On the next screen, don't select any devices. Instead, go to the tabs where you see playback, recording, etc. Look for a tab called comunications.
4. You should see some radio buttons. Select do nothing.
5. Click apply.
Next time you make or receive a call, this should make the pc not adjust the volumes.
If that doesn't work, here's another thing you can try that might work in conjunction with the previous method:
1. Launch skype.
2. Go to tools, and select options.
3. Select sound.
4. Keep pressing tab, past all the microphone settings. You'll see a checkbox let skype adjust my microphone settings, keep tabbing and eventually you should see a checkbox that also says let skype adjust my speaker settings. Uncheck that.
5. Click save.
I hope that one of these solutions helps. The communications one is great as that also works with stuff like Teamtalk.

hi,
I don't use that version of Skype. I use the version of Skype that comes with Windows 8.1.
Thanks.

If you refuses to use the desctop version of Skype, you can only blame yourself for those issues. Why use something which is less accessible?

In Windows 8 it's accessibility was really terrable, but when I upgraded to 8.1 those problems went away but still this volüme lowering thing remained.

Weird that people are experiencing Windows 8 that differently. I've used both windows 8.0 and 8.1 without any accessibility issues at all. smile

Best regards SLJ.

Hi,
Grab the latest desktop installer, but don't uninstall your current version. This way you can keep your settings, but you won't have to go through the older, inaccessible skype.
The newer versions of skype still use chats as listboxes and such, but you can enable compact mode to have them pop up in a seperate window.
Also, NVDA now announces if you have unread messages. What's more, Microsoft themselves have actually mentioned NVDA on their skype website, in the accessibility section. Also, narrator gets a mention.
I was really surprised, I thought it would be a memory hog, and I just used Teamtalk for months and months, but what with msn going down very soon, I thought I'd give skype another try. I wouldn't have mentioned it if I didn't like it.
