Introduction

Money is probably going to be something you're interested in making almost immediately when arriving in Torn.  Depending on who you are and how much you've explored, you'll have some ideas as to how you should go about it, or you have absolutely no idea and are getting frustrated.  Pay attention and let us put those frustrations at ease at long last, and if you do end up with money, spread the love!  Money's important to me too!

Short Term Money

"I'm not sure how long I'll be playing, not even sure if this game is for me, but I still want money."  NO problem.  Get a job.  The newspaper has some starter jobs for you to get acquainted with before you go out and try your hand at something more difficult.  Casino takes my choice as to where you should start, but other players have suggested being a grocer isn't a bad idea either.  Take your pick; if you don't like it, change it!  Eventually you'll hit level 3 and these jobs won't matter to you, since you'll be able to apply to a company.  Look around on the forums; open the trade shoutbox and advertise yourself as someone willing to work for 10k a day.  Don't get greedy; sometimes these jobs can lead to longterm sound money making.

Longterm Money

"So, I like the game, I have some friends, maybe a girlfriend, and we have big ideas for the future.  We want big money, and we're willing to go wherever and do whatever it takes to get it!"  Awesome!  Get a job!  there's no simple road for you, oh great one, and the road you take is going to depend on yourself and how you think your character will do best.

Working for Inteligence

Every job you get will help you increase your stats to some degree.  It pays immensely to switch between law, education, and medical.  The reason for this is that while they are only starter jobs, all of these jobs offer a vast amount of inteligence, which employers generally tend to like.  The higher your intel, the more you're likely to get paid in future.  There are people who are willing to pay millions if your intel reaches 50k or above.  It is of great importance that you try and get promoted to the top in any or all of these jobs as soon as possible to further maximise the benefits.  Education is fairly special in that one of its specialties is allowing you the ability to trade in job points for inteligence, manual, or endurance.

Banking

You'll more than likely visit the bank in torn City at level 5 and find that your money can generate money of its own.  Allowing it to sit in a vault at the bank also has the added benefit of keeping it safe.  From what, you ask?

Mugging

This is very legal, and very possible.  There are many people who compulsively gamble and win tons of cash in the process.  Those people tend to get careless and never stash their money away for safe keeping.  More than likely you'll target one of these people for their cash and make it your own.  another option is to chekc out the auction house and see who is bidding the highest on items.  Be careful though; they might outdo you in the end and you will end up in the hospital.

Providing Services

It is worth noting that there are things players are willing to pay for.  Remember the ones that are and keep in touch with them if they've paid you in the past for anything, as they will more than likely pay you again in future for the same or other services.  You will learn of most of these with the exception being signature design, which is a subject of its own that requires much patience and dedication.

Slutting

The act of slutting can depend on the player you provide this service for.  IN general, the term slutting refers to you purposefully doing anything during a battle for another player to obtain the experience of said battle.  Some players may require you to hit once then run away, or simply lose the battle all together and end up hospitalised for a small amount of time.  This is usually a good way to make money, since players who pay up will more than likely pay upwards of 100k per loss.  As previously stated, take note of those who do as this could lead to some serious cash.

Reviving

Once you've managed to make your way up to brain surgeon you can provide revives, even if you leave the medical field.  Simply stated, revives allow other players to leave the hospital with full health.  Players will generally pay about a million dollars as of this writing for a revive, and being an active player will up the amount of money you make this way depending on how much of your character's energy you are willing to invest doing this.  It normally costs 75 energy unless you join a faction with the Salutary" special, which can bring it down to 25.  Stocking up on energy drinks or xanax can send you a long way when you wish to make a career out of this.

Be aware that some players might ask you to revive other players for the sole purpose of attacking them over and over again as this is a fairly legal practice for gaining experience, the downside being that the players you revive might try to take revenge and mug you to get some of that money back.  If you own one of the larger properties, such as a palace, ranch or private island this will be a minor annoyance more than a problem, as you can lock your money away in vaults.

Busting

While busting or helping others escape jailtime is not something that is generally recommended as a money maker, it is worth listing here because some people will pay up, in some cases sending you items you can sell for greater proffit.  it may not be a reliable source of cash, but might produce some results if you work your way up to busting on a regular basis, also giving you the benefit of increased crime success and a higher natural nerve bar.

Owning An Active Bazaar

Spending the donator points to get your own Bazaar started along with a bit of research on the item market can be well worth it.  As of this writing, there are flowers that currently sell for 100k a piece, drugs selling for upwards of 500k, and donator packs themselves go for around 25 million dollars.  While selling them on the market itself is possible without owning a bazaar, you'll get less of a profit this way since you will be taxed for doing so unless you've joine a 5 star car dealership or managed to make your way to stock broker.  It's also worth mentioning that a bazaar allows you to sell in bulks, which many players tend to like.  finding and buying drugs, meds, and other things cheap and then reselling them at a slightly lower price once prices skyrocket is not unheard of and is a quick way to money making success.

Running Items

It's quite simple; rent an island with an airstrip, hire a pilot, and get ready for some traveling!  Bring back 15 items of your choosing when you return.

Many impressive items are not located in Torn City itself, which is why it is possible to travel to get these items.  As is the case with many other things that are sold in bulks, players don't mind buying them for more than they're worth, which is why it's more than possible and closer to probable that you can make a huge proffit out of running flowers from abroad to make tons of cash off of them.  Other things to consider here are joining a faction that offer the cumber special that increases the amount of items you can carry by 10, working at a 5 star cruise line agency for an increased limit of 2, and a small, medium, or preferably large suitcase for 2, 3, or 4 more items respectively, for a total of 31 items you can proffit from per trip.  Stacking suitcases is not possible at this time; you'll only be using one.  Go for the large one; while it costs 10 million it will pay for itself if you're active enough.  Visit Hawaii, buy a large suitcase.

Irc Giveaways

torn city has its own Irc server, and while it may seem like a hastle to set up for it on occasion, it can be worth it, as many prizes are given away on a regular basis to those who participate.  sometimes, being there is all that is expected of you.

and Finally, Being a Hardcore Criminal

Getting a 35 or 40 natural nerve bar is worth every bit you have invested into it.  Eventually, this nerve bar can help you get some good cash.  If you don't have one, get one!  Making cash with a 35 nerve bar is as simple as taking some risks.  Hack into a bank mainframe, do 3 warehouse arsons, then hack again.  ON a good day, you'll make as many as 2 million just doing this.  If you have a 40, more than likely you can pull just about any crime off with ease, the exception being the pawnshop, which I can't stress enough, is not worth it under any circumstances owing to the big holes it can punch in your experience.  If your nerve bar drops below 35, simply go back to doing warehouse arsons.

Conclusion

Other ways of making money are still out there for you to uncover, but these are the ones that work for me and have helped me make millions.  I don't consider Hunting in Africa worth my time, since by the time you're ready to hunt you should already have a 35 nerve bar and be ready to hack once per every 3 arsons and make more money this way while still keeping other avenues open for cash making purposes.  Political organized crimes can be something to look into; I generally solo.  Bounty hunting requires good stats to pull off successfully, plus making sure that your opponents aren't stronger than you in the process.  Gambling has never been one of my strong points, though I know there are people who make tons off of it.  IN short, because of the constantly changing nature of Torn, you can't run out of ways to get rich.  Watch other players; talk to other players.  Keep a good list of contacts and know how to approach them.  In the end, you're only limited by what you're not willing to do.

When life gives you oranges, demand lemons since everyone else is obviously getting them.

Thumbs up +1
