hi,
has anyone played top speed 2 with computer players? and if so, do the computer players go on motoryclses? for me, they never go on motorcycles, and i know someone else who also experiences this. however, another person said that the computers do actually go on motorcycles for him. so, do they go on motorcycles for you or not? and do you have any idea what's causing this issue? i'd like the computer players to go on the motorcycles thunder bolt and wild cat, but they don't.

I've the very last version, and they never select a motorcycle.

Maybe it's a bug (every car has it's own ID, and the computer generates random IDs to select cars, but he doesn't generate numbers greater than 4). But maybe this is done because of a certain reason...

I think I'll go and ask the developer. smile

a correction... the guy who said it thought they selected motorcycles, but they didn't. so i think it's just a bug yeah

That'd be cool if they used custom cars. Lol, you could make the computers crash and stuff

The Top Speed source code (including sounds) is protected and not given out. Hmmm, I wonder if that was a good English sentence...
I know that because I wanted to work on Top Speed, because it seems to be dead.

Yeah that was a good English sentence. What language is top speed written in? I heard somewhere it was autoit but I doubt that.

I thought it has been written in C(++).

2007-02-23 18:26:25

Hi,
I like that idea as well.

Hi
Yes it is written in C++. I heard that they lost the source code for the game so they will have to start from scratch again if they want to improve it even more.

that would be terrible...
yeah. and ya know, I've got a wild car that plays music instead of an engine, it's really fun to drive it. and if there were also a few computers driving with wildcars, that would rule!!

Huh? Wo told you that? I'm sure it isn't so, but i think davy will write te game again in an other scripting language, because c++ is very difficult and there are very much bugs in the game now.

C++ is a really powerful language, but it can be hard (for example if you wish to learn the whole Windows library).

that's right. Perhaps the problem will done in the next version

I think VB6 is the best language for games. I'm doing really well with it.

well, top speed 2 does prove what c++ can do

Hi,
I can confirm officially that Top Speed is written in C++ *smile*.
And I've got about 100 backups of the sourcecode on CD, so it's not lost. But it's true that I plan to write any future game in another language, namely C#. C++ is great if you want optimum performance and control, but the downside is that development is slower and more prone to difficult-to-debug errors. The performance isn't really an issue with audio-only games. And with the 9.0x version of DirectX, most - if not all- of DirectX is accessible from within C# (or VB.NET for that matter). The only downside is that I have to rewrite or port tons of code...
Ah well, keeps me busy.

Cheers!
Davy
