I know in Quake there are a set of pick ups that give different effects, but I don't know if this message corresponds to any. The ones that spring to mind are the quad damage and the pentagram of protection.

Pentagram of protection means you can't be hurt. Occasionally even used to let you dive in lava in the original single player.

And it's the ring of shadows, makes you invisible.
