hello, since it wasn't announced here, tau station is now in open alpha and you can create your accounts. For anyone who missed it, tau station is a very well written scifi text browser game. Humanity has entered post scarcity status, however not wanting for anything brings with it decadents and sure downfall. And this is exactly what happens, a giant catastrophy sweeps through the human worlds, leaving the planets uninhabited and many spacestations air and lifeless. However, out of the ashes, some have survived and are now attempting to rebuild, forming crude governments, retaking the ruined stations, and begin rebuilding the jumpgates linking the different solar systems with each other. However much has bin lost, the human's originally huge sphere of influence has shrunk down to a section of space about 40 lightyears across centered on the soul system. Much of the pre-catastrophy technology has also been lost and stations have to survive with what they have left. This is where you come in. In this universe, there's a lot to be done. Each station has missions you can do, from simple experiences that don't even take you out of the area you're in, to large, complex afaires that span multiple stations. You're able to start training in a career path such as medical or trade, and do tasks asociated with that career path. There's a lot more you should discover for yourself, of course. The writing is very good, so this is for anyone who enjoys narative and good storylines. Please note, this game is as of the writing of this post in open alpha, so it might still seam a little bit empty. You can already do a lot, but longterm plans for the game include the ability for space combat, asteroid mining, cargo trading, and of course the release of new stations or missions. To check it out, go to http://taustation.space

I am myself and noone is ever gonna change me, I am the trolling master!

I wonder there is something new? , last time I played, it's kindda grindy, do your  job ,  wait  till your stats refill , over and over

hi, I just edited my first post to reflect that the game is still in open alpha. @Jason It might have seamed so in the beginning because you played the original closed alpha, from what I see of the changelogs however a lot has been done and a lot more is still to come.

Hi.
I just created an account to see what it is like, and wow I'm surprised... It looks really really great. That's of course only my first impressions though.

Best regards SLJ.

I might want to try this one and I've already set up an account and tried playing, but I was wondering if any of you had any ideas who have played before.

I tried this really easy side job for cleaning up medical waste but every time I try It I get

"Me. You missed the incinerator and have to clean up the waste again."

I literally did it like 50 times in a row with no successes, so was wondering what was up. I'm still brand new and am just out of the tutorial.

Also, my advice is do not  play a harcene like I am. There is no career path right now that tailors to their skills so they don't fit in well. But if you can tell me how to succeed if there is any reason I'm getting so many fails in a row, please let me know.

Hi, that job requires higher stamina it seams. Train it at the gym.

I was also a beta tester, and the mission quality is great. The career system has a lot to be desired, though, I must say.

hi, since I guess this would count as a major update, ships have as of last wednesday been released to the public. If you're one of those ritch alpha snobs ahem I  mean dedicated and well-off player, you are now able to aquire the first two types of ship and fly around with them. There's been other changes made as well, as you can read on the tau station blog where they publish weekly changelogs.

Awesome. I should look some more at the game. I never really got started, only read the first mission objective, where I should look for someone.

Agreed, it really is a great game. Ve sure to also say hi in the chat if you haven’t already, some of the higher people often send gifts to new players.

so what can you do so far in the game? i was part of the closed alpha. then you could do missions and wander round stations but not too much else.

2018-05-19 14:41:57

there's a few things. The main thing of course are the missions. Apart from being a great read, they are the best way to gain xp, which you need in order to level and unlock new stations, teers and items. If you have nothing to do, you can do side jobs which don't give much credit, but are the best way to get xp if you've done all the missions that are available. Discrete work is a form of mission which is automatically generated and is likely to get you into the brig or sick bay, but if you complete it you can get  free boosts to your stats, weapons, armor and other things. Then there's the career system, it lets you start at a parth of work and you can advance from rank 1 all the way to rank 8. In the future, holding a rank within a career also will give you various perks. Having a career not only gives you a daily saliry, but you can also do career tasks with give you extra money. Thus, careers are the best way of gaining credits. In the ruins you can either search for items or look for an enemy to fight. There's courses you can learn, some of which you should consider getting such as combat, because you will be able to use the combat belt or space ship operations which lets you fly a starship.

Hello.

Is there a way to remove a character and create new?
Because I feell like I screw up before I even started playing properly.
I chose to play as a Harsene and there is no career path that corresponds with my character's stats.
I chose Technician, but stats not quite fit.
Also I could not even finish a side job because my character got tired quickly.
Right now I am spending more time waiting for stats to refill than actually doing something.

2018-05-20 11:43:50

hi, I don't think there is. I think your only hope is to put all your credits into the bank, travel to a station with no sick bay and let someone attack you. If you have a vat grown or premium clone somewhere, you will die, and that clone will activate. For a bonds payment you can change it's genotype to something else. But I might miss something, so you should ask in the game chat if there really is no way. As a lost resort you could just create a new account with a different user name, a throwaway email, and a password you hopefully won't ever forget.

Thank you for the answer.
I think I will wait if in the future the option to remove characters will be available.
I did not finish the tutorial yet and have no credits, so I am not losing anything.
Also waiting hours for a stat to replace after a few moves is not something I like.

thought I'd revive this topic since the monthly status report was posted just last week, and there's been some cool new aditions over the last month. There's a new form of combat where you face six enemies in a row in the ruins called "enter the sewers", for those who like to earn their xp and gear from combat. New uni courses as well that let you train for specific weapon specialisations, new kinds of stims to boost multiple stats at once, and other things. Also for those who might have found the player cooperation aspect lacking, syndicates are coming close to release and I think they will make it into the game some time in july or august. Read the full status report here:

for anyone who might have found the multiplayer aspects of tau station lacking, syndicates have been released, at least the first part of them, on wednesday. You can now create and join them. They provide a way for players to raise funds together, as they can donate credits and bonds towards the syndicate, and in future, they will be the source of multiplayer PVE campagnes which require cooperation to complete as well as buildings which give you other advantages and opertunities.

not sure why no one posted about it here yet, but tau station just launch a kickstarter a few days ago to gather up money so they could add more stuff, including musics and sound effects. I am not really the fan of this MMORPG but I just would like to inform you just in case. I have also listen to the sample music but it didn't grab my interest.
the goal is waaaay too far though honestly, $117,496? wow.
other than the writing, what can make you guys enjoy this one I wonder? I would like to return playing soon enough. let me know if there is a small sindikat I could join.
also I do think this one should be on the DB, no?

I really wish I could delete my account and restart.
i began before Christmas, then Christmas happened, my lady started radiotherapy.
I suspect I'd like the game if I could get into it, but whenever I go back to the site I am always a bit stuck and there's no way to either restart my character or delete my account.

Oh and yes, the game does need a Db entry either way, it's on my list of things to do.

With our dreaming and singing, Ceaseless and sorrowless we! The glory about us clinging Of the glorious futures we see,
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)

@Jason: the goal is not way too far, they want to make a long-term investment. Somethin' Else did this as well for audiodefense, but everyone thought the goal was too much and didn't back it. That campaign was going to fund both audio defense and the upkeep of the studio. That campaign fail resulted in their game studio no longer existing.

I have been playing this game for a while now. I like what I am seeing so far

When training stats jus tkeep a few things in mind:
Your physical stats only need to be very well trained if you want to do a lot of combat, so unless that's important for you, only focus on getting them to exceptional level, which you can see on your character's page. Intelligence and Social aren't required for anything besides stat checks, so you only have to have those at the level they need to be exceptional. This goes up every time you level up though, so be sure to train them back up when you do that.
Always make sure to train at the highest gym you can. Gyms on higher level stations have better gains, all of the time. If your stats are too low for the highest level gym you can access, find out which gym your stats work for and train there till you can go higher.
Most people stockpile rations before they train so they can get large increases all at once. What they do is get the personal trainer effect, train two stats, eat a ration, train two more stats, eat another ration, etc.
As for syndicates, I'm a member of TAU myself. TAU is almost full, but they have a splitoff syndicate called TTU as well. One of the two probably has free member slots. Some of the oldest game members, some of them from the CA phase, are in TAU and TTU with lots of experience and willingness to help out. We play a lot of campagnes and there's a bunch of cool programs running like ration trades and equipment rentals for campagnes. For newer members that want to participate in campagnes, they offer travel cost refunds if you have to travel interstellar.
