Hi all.
If you haven't tried Amazon Alexa yet, then this game is a great reason to get it up and running. If you don't have an Alexa enabled speaker, it works on the ipHone, Google and on other platforms as well.

Dunkirk is an epic, extremely high pumped action packed adventure, where you have to make some difficult desissions to stay alive. It have some really great sound effects, gun shots, huge explosions and generally great sounds. For some reason, the game is in mono.
The voice acting is surprisingly good. The main game is in English, but there are also German and French voice acting as well.
I won't spoil the game, but... You have three different rolls to play, lots of different paths to choose, many ways to die and a scoring system at the end of each game. There are many reasons to play this epic adventure again...
Here comes the description:

In war, every decision matters. What will you do to survive?
In this adventure game set during the early days of World War II, you play a British soldier holding back the German invasion of France. Your only hope: to make it to the seaside town of Dunkirk for evacuation by ship back to England. You direct the action, making life-or-death decisions with moral consequences, all against the terrifying backdrop of Hitler’s menacing blitzkrieg.
At the end of each game, you’ll have the opportunity to download and share a graphic novel of your journey.
Note that this game contains content that may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13. Parental discretion is advised.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

because Alexa is mono, it has like one speaker.

If the game was made in stereo sound, the game would sound amazing on the Fire HD8/10 tablets and/or via headphones/other speakers.

Okay, so I'm not usually one for these choice type games... but I'm making an exception. tongue
Edit: Fuck, so apparently this skill is not available in Canada...

@BlindNinja: Don't panic, there is a workaround.
Go into your Alexa profile, and set your country to US. Then it'll work.
I know this is not fully leagle, but I'm getting pissed at those restrictions...

Moderation!

Methinks this topic should be in new releases.
Btw, I'll admit the hole military war thing is less my cup of tea, and I'm getting a little sick of reashing the second world war againd and again, but on the other hand this does sound rather coold, especially a scoring system and replayability.

With our dreaming and singing, Ceaseless and sorrowless we! The glory about us clinging Of the glorious futures we see,
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)

@SLJ
I figured that was an option, lol I'm just a little concerned about what'd happen if Amazon actually noticed, also not sure on the legality of it in the first place so maybe I'm just overthinking it.

@Dark: Thanks for moving the topic. I wasn't sure, since the game has been out for a while.
Maybe you wanna move the other topic as well?

@BlindNinja: The only thing I could imagine going wrong if you change to the US are some subscriptions, if you have any UK based subscriptions. Just change your country, not your address, and you can quickly switch back if you get any issues. I haven't seen any issues yet, but Alexa is not officially supported here anyway, so I don't know what I'm missing, lol. I wouldn't care one second about what Amazon thinks about changing the country like this. They are making those pointless restrictions. The games are free anyway, so there are no cheating with money involved, not at all.

Hi SLJ. How can I play it on my iphone? I would like to try it.

Meh fuck the legality of it.What are they gonna do anyway.

Anyway, this game is cool, like, extremely slow. I must admit, having tried code name signis, that didn't really appeal to me, plus the audio was much lower quality in that one, now I am sure these aren't the same people making both, so I'm not trying to directly compare them, but Dunkirk is just awesome. It's action without the gaudiness. It's suspenseful, makes you think, and care about what happens to you, etc.

Hi.
@Bogdan: There are multiple ways to use Alexa on the iPhone. The easiest solution I have found is the following:
1. Create an Amazon account if you haven't already. Just go to amazon.com Set your account to US.
2. Download the Alexa app from the app store, since you might find it easier to configure the Alexa settings there. You can also configure the Alexa settings from alexa.amazon.com, but I don't know what solution is most accessible with screenreaders. I configured my settings using the app.
3. To use Alexa on the phone, you need the Amazon store app. It might seem strange at the beginning. When you sign into your Amazon account in this app, you should look for the search field. Just below that, you have the voice search feature. Use this to speak to Alexa, and you can use skills (apps), games etc. smile
I have had some issues where my Amazon app suddenly got disconnected, but that might be my internet, I don't know.
@ironcross32: I'm glad you got it working. Yes, I agree. Dunkirk is really, really awesome... big_smile

Thanks SLJ for your explanation. This method works even I don't have an echo?

Thumbs up

14

Yes it does, you can also use Alexa in the amazon music app too. Here's the thing though, non-echo based Alexa access thingies like the apps, smart speakers that have Alexa in them ,etc. They all have trouble staying connected to skills longterm where the echo's themselves don't.

Do you need to have amazon prime for this? Cuz i don't, not yet anyways. This sounds pretty cool though.

It depends. If you have an echo, you can get the skill by saying, Alexa, open DunkIrk, or if you don't own an echo, follow the steps given by SLJ. I don't have an echo but I can use the iphone method. How kool it is.

Oh, no download is required at all to start playing? How do you close it, just say alexa stop?

Yes. All Alexa skills, which simply are apps, works like this. It is so simple so I also got confused at the beginning. When you don't wanna play anymore, just stop giving the skill any commands for a few seconds, and it'll save your progress. I'm still surprised on how simple it works...

Hi all, and thanks SLJ for the headsup on this one. I've only played a very short way, but I'm trying to play a hard assed lieutenant and I can't seem to make the order to kill the first prisoner of war stick. Somehow or another I keep getting asked, are you sure you don't want to go back and replay this again? Maybe it's subtly trying to tell me this isn't workable now?

Otherwise it seems like a very cool game!

Hello,
You said it can be played on Google if one doesn't have Alexa. How to play it on my android phone? I tried to find an Elexa app on the playstore and I am not finding it. So what is the trick?
Best!

Hit the “Ask Alexa” button, if using the “official” Amazon Alexa” app for Android:

You can also check out the apps “Reverb” for Alexa, and “Ultimate Alexa.”
