So something i’ve been wondering for a while now, why do we even have ads on this site? They do nothing accept lag out scream readers and just be a general annoyance. Also, i’m pretty sure this site doesn’t earn money, so there’s no real need for them anyway. Currect me if i’m wrong though.

I'm not actually sure, though I suspect its part of the cloud flare hosting, perhaps Sander can field this one?

With our dreaming and singing, Ceaseless and sorrowless we! The glory about us clinging Of the glorious futures we see,
Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)

Hi,
I think there were ads since before the days of the Cloudflare hosting, but they wer always at the bottom of the page, unless something's changed recently.

Inless I'm wrong there are resources this site uses that aren't free, and since the site earns no money, what money the ads earn them help pay the bills.

I myself don't see the ads, I don't have an ad blocker, but I do use the mvps hosts file and it blocks lots of ads and other unsavory sites.

Most ads seem to be either one container saying "click", or a stream of "addblclck" that never ends. One of these is tolerable. The other encourages me to turn off javascript.
Most of the time, the ads on this site aren't a problem. Occasionally, it will get bad enough in iOS that "a problem occurred with this page so it was reloaded" happens a lot, too much lag, voiceover crashing when I try to do anything, making it impossible to reply, and sometimes to read. In those cases, javascript goes off. That mostly happens here, and occasionally an ad-heavy news site, but that's probably more a result of how few sites I frequent on iOS than anything.

I suspect the ads are needed to keep the site going, as someone said, so I don't mind them personally.

For ad blocking on iOS I can't recommend Adguard enough. It's free, just uses the Safari content blocking feature so doesn't mess with your system's VPN settings and uses the standard filter format that adBlock and uBlock uses.

The twins of Mammon quarrelled. Their warring plunged the world into a new darkness, and the beast abhorred the darkness. So it began to move swiftly, and grew more powerful, and went forth and multiplied. And the beasts brought fire and light to the darkness. - from The Book of Mozilla, 15:1
