What are your thoughts on a new Roleplaying game styled after Dungeons and

Dragons or something like that?

2006-01-24 15:35:53

I

personally prefer new/unused RPG stats and the like. D&D is a nice starting

point but gets really old really fast. I live with three people who play it

and it annoys hell outta me.

I'm interested because I loved desing pencil and paper games and was

thinking of submitting an idea but I want the opinion of the people I'd

want to market to. I'm ....was......who knows with a blind person and think

that the lack of attention to details  for games, audio books voice acting

which is bleh, and lack of nice braille cards got me going and so being a

writer I want to give the world a headache until they stand up and take

notice....
but I digress what Fantasy type or Sci-fi story lines or chars

would be appealing?

Can I

just get some clarification please? It sounds like you're talking about a

traditional pen and paper style game here. I'm not complaining, I'm not

one of those elements here, it's just that if you don't specify on here

people will automatically assume it's a computer RPG game.

I am talking about a computer game but with a roleplaying scripted

style...but since someone said D & D is not appealing I wanted ideas...I'm

good at providing storyline and script for a game designer to provide a

platform and bells and whistles.... Sorry, my speech can be a little

messy.

Ah,

sorry. The discussion before was a bit confused on that point. I'm

personally not too concerned on the world (or universe) it's set in, more

about the content. It doesn't really matter to me whether it's based on

dungeons and dragons, earthdawn, shadowrun, or any concoction you come up

with yourself.

To me it's the overall feel that counts. Sorry I

couldn't offer a specific suggestion.

i

personally am very much into the whole dungeons and dragons style.
i have a

few hours a day in which i would love to spend hacking my way through a

world of dragons orks and other monsters using only swords and wits.
i also

enjoy achieving different levels of standing, like you eventually get better

weapons, finding treasures in the different areas your in, etc
so yeah dd

is fine with me.

By

D&D being distasteful to me, personally, I mean the specific things that are

D&D-specific. Feats, throes, die rolls and such. I am not at all against

medieval roleplaying, love it in fact. But we don't have to use D&D rule

sets, stat sets or worlds, that's what I'm saying.

Depends on how

complex you want the game, Luna. How many base stats each character has,

what they're for, that kinda thing.

Jade you're making it sound like a mud tongue.

Luna.
Well, I'm

going for it. As long as it's mainly combat and quests, I'm up for it. Any

chance of multi-player? Smirk...

It sounds like it's suposed to be more like a mud at the moment AF.

I really can't say since that' not my type of game really - muds might

possibly have a chance of being fun but raw pen and paper, er...

i

hope it isn't a mud, for some reason i cannot play them using my

comp.
however i would like a medevil style game where you must collect

weapons and bounty for killing people.

maybe a large landscape which you

must trek to find friends and enemies,
something along the lines of sryth,

but without all of that borring stuff inbetween.
something along the lines

of lord of the rings.
i also like choices, you know you can choose whether

your a human knight, an elvish lord all that.

Ok, smile

I see... the die and throes and other sillier pen and paper moves

shouldn't be there...but
the ogres or monsters, myth and fantasy is

appealing... you want less physical or visual tactics and more mentally

challenging puzzles, right?

Thanks so much smile

There's a video clip on the audio games site links I believe of someone

talking about creating game concepts. The most important point that struck

me was to make the most of the medium you're using. In this case do things

that pen and paper games can't possibly do, or would be very

difficult.

Solo play is a big one for starters. For audio games there's

also a big immersion factor with the game environments and worlds. Obviously

fights are a big thing to look at since they can have a lot put into them

that pen and paper fights just can't do, but as you seem to be thingking

it's good to have things other than fights. There were a few ideas thrown

around on the addiction to muds thread, regarding an audio rpg game, which

moight be useful as well.

Actually I'm not a huge fan of regular solo games ...they are fun for ten seconds but then... where's the challenge in that?
So multiplayer would be my focus... like I said my talent lies in scripting and creating the idea... and if the company I'm marketing this too will  take it on... then I think we'll all be thrilled smile

the problem is, i have tried playing on muds like alter eon, and i can't use my screen reader with it.
i use win eyes, and it seems that there are a lot of things i can't do, because people program for jaws and snova.

how can i play these things with win eyes?

I'm sure there must be a terminal emulation client suitable for Window Eyes. Maybe if you poke around Window Eyes sites or user group type places you'll be able to find one. It's something that simply has to have come up at some point, terminal emulation's just one of tjhose things that is occasionally necessary.
