When I play Castaways, my population keeps dying when I get to about 20 or so people. Does anyone have any tips or stratagies to stop this from happening?

Make sure you have enough workers assigned to the necessary food-production jobs. That includes peasants to carry the food to the tavern, which could be something of a bottleneck when you have 20 people. You can usually get the most out of farms with 2 farmers for every 3 farms, IIRC. You also want to try and produce all the food types, although it is kinda difficult to get more than 2 going early on. Also, watch out for injuries or sickness, especially for your cook or doctor. You'll want a butcher and a textile to support your hospital ASAP.
