Hi all.

I'm proud to host an other version of Aprones game Blazing, but now in a customized version.

The idea behind the customized version:

The idea is to let you, the players, build up a totally different and awesome version of Blazing. You decide the theme. Should it be dark, happy, hilarious, humorous ? Or a mix of everything randomness? It's all up to you. This topic is made so people can post their stuff to the game.

What can we make:

We can make spaces, which is actually places where the character lands when rolling the dice, and we can make enemies. It might sounds quite limited, but it is quite a lot, when I tell you the game supports up to 999 spaces and 999 enemies. All kinds of weirdness, craziness and everything you have in mind is welcome, as soon as names and descriptions don't harm anyone. So, please go crazy! smile
The idea is that you post your spaces and enemies here in the topic to inspire other people to be creative, but if you have something totally super secret and awesome in mind which you wanna give as a surprise to the other players, feel free to send this privately to me by sending me a private mail through the forum.

Updating the game with the new changes:

The game is designed so peoples progress in the game is lost when the game is being updated with new stuff. For this reason, I'll not update the game all the time. I'm of course willing to discuss when to update the game in the topic, but my idea is to update the game for every new 50 spaces and enemies people have posted.

How it works:

If you find the instructions below confusing, then I'll offer to insert some random stats for you. If you agree on this, then feel free to just post a name and a description and if it's a space, a description on what should happen.

When designing a space which have a behavior, you need to think about all the 3 classes of characters. If you don't do that, we'll end up with a game which is easier with one class than the others. So if you don't write behaviors for all classes, I might need to pick some for you to make the gameplay fair for everyone..

Here is the instructions copied from the readme. Please let me know if you don't find this clear or if you have any questions.

Each line after is a new type of space in the game world.  Each line is split up into 3 pieces of information separated with an equals sign.  The first part is the space's name, then its description, and finally its behavior.  I think name and description are pretty easy to understand, so I'll only explain the behavior portion.

You can group together multiple behaviors, and each behavior is inside of its own square brackets.  Lowercase "g" stands for gold.  If you were to type [g4], then the player gains 4 gold when landing on this space.  You could also do [g-2] to have 2 gold taken away.  Lowercase "d" stands for damage.  You can cause damage or heal damage in the same way you can hand out gold.  Lowercase "a" stands for arrows, lowercase "r" stands for warrior rage, and lowercase "m" stands for mana.  A space behavior of [d-5][r-2][g15] would heal the player for 5, lower a warrior's rage by 2, and give them 15 gold.  If you use capital letters instead of lowercase letters, I'm pretty sure it won't work... too lazy to test it though.

You are welcome to add in as many new spaces as you wish.  I think the file currently contains 29, but the server can support up to 999.  The server randomly picks from this list as it creates the game world, so you don't ever actually get to pick where each type of land will be.

Customizing the monsters:

Each of the following lines is a monster type.  Just like the land spaces, the different parts are separated with an equals sign.  Blazing had 15 types of monsters, but the server supports up to 999.

First you have the monster's name, then its description.  Next is the monster's health, then its minimum damage, maximum damage, and finally its reward.  You should recognize the reward from space behaviors earlier.  Just enter a new number after "g" to choose how much gold the player will earn by killing this monster.  The Blazing server will randomly upgrade monster health, damage, and even reward as it assigns those monster titles.

Thanks a lot for the very first enemy.
The name and the description is great. But the reward of 100 gold is way too high, because you'll meet the enemy both as a newbie and later in the game. I can't make enemies which you only meet later on in the game, so for this reason, I'm forced to set the reward amount more realistic.
I'll do my best to set all this as realistic as possible. If you don't like it when you meet your own enemy in the game, I can always change it.

hello slj, is it possible to have multiple instances of the game for you to choose from, with things like different currency? Say for example I wanted to create a scifi theme for the game, but did't want it to use gold and rather wanted the currency to be called credits, would that work?

I used to be a knee like you, then I took an adventurer in the arrow.

@connor142, I'm not SLJ, but so far there is no way to change anything else besides the things mentioned in the first post. For anything else you'd have to contact Aprone and ask him for an update.

Yes, this is right. I can only change what I've mentioned in the first post, unless Aprone decides to make an update. I already have some suggestions to future updates, if he feels like working on the game again.

The enemy from post 2 is included. Excuse me for typos and things. This is just quickly thrown together, but I hope this can inspire people to be creative as well:

Crazy cat=Meow, meow... Suddenly, a big, black cat lands on your sholders from above, and decide to do some distruction to your body.=15=0=3=[g15]
Insect=A random big and scary insect which you've never seen before, flys into your face and starts to bite you.=3=0=4=[g2]
Small bird=A poor and small bird with a broken wing suddenly falls down from above, and lands right in front of you. Because it's unable to flee, it starts to attack you in fear, and your only option is to attack back and make the end of this poor animal.=10=1=5=[g20]
A big black bird=A big black bird suddenly flys towards you, and decides to attack for unknown reason.=14=2=5=[g20]
Your own shaddow=You have always been afraid of your own shaddow. Now it's behind you again, and you feel a quite heavy attack from behind.=2=0=1=[g1]
Sick=Maybe because of something you have eaten or for some other strange reason, you suddenly start to be very sick. You throw up all over the place, and need to fight against the damn sickness before you're able to continue.=7=1=4=[10]
Broken bottle of glass=You trip over a broken bottle of glass, and fall to the ground and cut yourself on all the peases of glass lying around you=5=1=3=[g10]

Okay here are a few attempts at interesting land tyles, I'll do some enemies soon.

Goblin marsh=You find yourself slogging through an expanse of sticky, foul smelling mud. Bones stick out here and there  you watch each step carefully so that you don't sink down into the ooze to join them. You hear a nasty chuckle behind you, but even as you turn the small figure is running away and your pack feels lighter.[a-1][g-3][r3]

Hollow tree=As you make your way through a silent old forest, you come upon a huge oak tree with a  opening in iits trunk. Cautiously you extend a hand into the dark and find an old leather bag, presumably a supply cache left by some long vanished traveller.=[a4][g4][r-2]

Rune stone.=You come upon an ancient standing stone, its base buried in the earth and thick with moss. The outlines of old runes can still be seen on its surface in the evening sunlight. Not wishing to upset whatever godling or spirit was once worshipped here you leave a small tocan by the stone before moving on.[g-1][m4]

A dangerous stream.=Crossing a dreary moorland you find a small rill  of brown water running across your path. It is only when you begin wading across that you realize your mistake. Small vicious fish with hooked jaws clamp onto your toes and its only with a struggle that you flounder across.=[d06][r5]

Birds cliff.=Late in the evening you come to a high cliff overlooking the stormy sea populated by hundreds of bickering seaguls. While their noise and the cold wind keep you awake all night, you do at least find some odds and ends among their tangled nests.[d-1][g4][a2][r-1]

Peaceful lake.=trudging down a long grassy slope you come upon a wide lake fringed with rushes and water plants gleaming  in the sun. You decide to setup camp in such a beautiful spot and catch several fish which you cook over a smoking fire.[d5]

Burning desert sands.=A vast plane of gritti dry sand stretches out before you, the sun like a hammer on your head in  limmitless blue sky. You  so thirsty you think there might be a man in black following you, though maybe it is just a mirage.[d-5][m4]

Landslide.=Climbing carefully down a mountain face, you find yourself suddenly standing on loose shifting stones. You try to catch your weight but it is too late, in a second you tumble down the slope rocks cascading around you.[d-6][r4]

Mushroom circle.=In the center of a wide grassy meadow you come upon a selection of pearl white mushrooms arranged in a circle with a patch of smaller mushrooms in the center.Such places are highly magical, and you know so long as you don't disturb the circle youn get some well earned rest and food.[m6][r-4][d6]

Hope people like these, I'll see what else I can come up with, plus some monsters.

I have looked at the spaces you have posted. I have corrected some mistakes where you have forgot to put a = sign. You need to put a = sign after the description, before the behavior. Otherwise, the code won't work. smile

Hi all.
After having received some spaces privately to keep them as a surprise for you, having wrote some enemies and spaces myself and having fixed a typo in the configuration file which broke the server, I'm now proud to announce that the customized version of Blazing now is up and running. We start out with 20 spaces and 16 enemies. It's not much but this is at leased a start. Read more in the first post, which has been updated with a link.
I hope you enjoy, and please post your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, spaces, enemies or whatever you have in mind in this topic. Let us go crazy and expand the game. The limit is 999! big_smile

I think the enemy "A blind guy encounter" is pretty brutal.  Within the first dozen spaces they've killed me basically ever time I landed on one, and the most insane slaughter left me with -38 health!  ROFL!

There seems to be a bug with the mage. When you reach a sedelment, you can swich to lightning mode and then back, and your health will be restored. I'm not sure if you can do anything about that though, that'd probably be Aprone's job.

yeah these enemy encounters way way too strong and probably should be moved 100 or more spaces further on into the game.  If you manage to stop at square 6, which is fairly likely given that your first roll can be any of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 and you still have a chance of stopping there, theny ou have a 50% chance of being instantly killed with no defense either by landing on the blind guy square 8, the cow square 12, or the gannon square 11. Maybe you can add some like generic tiny animals like what the original version has, as  placeholders. @Aprone, space 13 is even worse than space 1. The angry cow has 25 hp and deals 4r12 damage with each attack. No one can survive that. Makes the game super unfun if you're just hoping you don't roll the wrong number.
Here aresome more enemies that hopefully can populate the beginning squares:
Animated pebble=Tiny pebbles come to life and begin to fly through the air toward you!=1=1=3=[g2]
Animated rock=A fist sized rock levitates off the ground and heads in a murderous arc toward your head.=4=2=3=[g3]
Animated stone=A jagged stone the size of your open hand sails through the air toward your face.=8=3=5=[g8]
Animated boulder=a big boulder about the size of a standard basketball begins flying toward your head, preparing to crush it.=14=6=8=[g14]
Baby land shark=It's a small shark with tiny jagged teeth, still learning what tastes good.=2=4=6=[g8]
toddling land shark=It's a child-sized shark with a tiny stub of a dorrosal fin.=3=5=8=[g13]
Juvenile land shark=It's a shark with pubic hair and a few acne bumps on its back. The triangle-shaped dorrosal fin is also a lot more threatening with the apex of the triangle sticking up.=7=7=9=[g20]
Fully grown land shark=it's a fully grown angry land shark with a black and red dorrosal fin. bits of blood and guts are skewered on the fin.=11=12=16=[g31]
baby weasel=a tiny little weasel. You can pop it with a single blow, right?=3=3=3=[g4]
Demonic hedgehog=An angry hedgehog with demon-enhanced sharpened spines.=4=2=9=[g8]
Group of demonic hedgehogs=There are three demonic hedgehogs here, all of them with spines bristling ready to attack you.=12=6=15=[g28]

Hi all.
Thanks so much for your comments. I'm so glad you've given the game a try and then commented instead of giving up, because the enemies were way too strong.
I have now adjusted the enemies, accept for the newest added enemies. Because of this change, the progress has been deleted and we start out fresh.
@KeyIsFull: Thanks so much for the 11 new enemies. You said the previous enemies were too strong, but you're making extremely powerfull enemies yourself. hahaha. big_smile
For this reason, I haven't changed the stats of your enemies, so we hopefully learn how to make fair and beatable enemies. I'm not sure on if it's the health or the highest damage the enemies can attack with which makes them strong. Of course I'll adjust those enemies as well if needed.
I hope you all are willing to give the game a try once again, and I'm sorry that the enemies were way too strong. smile

@SLJ I was hoping there would be some sort of intelligent placement system that wouldn't place extremely powerful enemies on the beginning of the game board, so I decided to try to create tiered enemies that could be placed all along the board. The very weak ones like the animated pebbles would be near the beginning of the map but the strong ones could show up a lot later. It would be cool if the game could calculate a power level for each enemy based on its damage and hp, and then tier up as you go, unless it already does that and there are just not enough enemies defined for it
Also playing against my own enemies, either they need to be toned down a bit damage wise, or the gold amounts on them need to be increased because they often require a healing potion to keep up with the damage, especially when you get to the third and fourth tier enemies.
Also: There are some really really strange squares on this board. The strange city square 24 randomly chops off 20 health points when you land on it which seems pretty unfair to me. There's also another weird square where it says you get healed, but you actually take damage.

SLJ, I've just posted version 0.8 of the Blazing server.  The new version adds in the Trainer character class, which will be fun to try on your customized server.  All of the custom files you've created will still work the same in the new version, so no one will lose their progress.

Finally, I got the server updated.
I have corrected the space in the city, where you got 20 damage instead of being healed. I'm not sure if the data file needs to be deleted before it works.
