Thanks for that info about ASAP.

Also, I can't seem to get any of the Gwbasic games to run. I type gwbasic then a space, then the game's name but it says the command was invalid. I seem to recall that there was an extra step or something you had to do that wasn't included in the documentation, can anyone tell me what that was?

maybe if you find an old copy of gwbasic you can put it in a gwbasic folder and then maybe type
gwbasic /run programName

and maybe it will run. that is the only thing i can think of.

So I don't know if I'm late to the party with this. I zipped up a bunch of old dos games I had lying around, I guess I was just waiting for something like this dos box.
So here's a little collection.
Most of these are text adventures.
Some of my favorites are:
beyond the titanic
gym
drug war
EC enchanted castle
a few eamon games
there are also some old pcs games in here too, and I think there's a few of the old kitchen games in here.
Some of this stuff I haven't actually played, but I've had for years on my hard drive.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoy it!

Did GWBasic ever exist on Windows? I don't know it if it did.

2017-05-03 13:24:57

regarding leeum's com0com issue. when installing com0com and if it stops in the middle of the install, hit alt tab because there are 3 or 4 windows security dialogs you have to accept before the installer will continue and you have to alt tab every now and then to see them. and to accept them press alt i. its either alt i or alt a.

2017-05-03 22:15:18

unfortunately the installer isn't stopping. I'm getting access denied errors as if the installer doesn't have permissions to write.

wow, i must have missed that completely. A talking dosbox? And newer versions with even dos screen readers included? How cool is that? May I ask were I ffind the most actual version of this with all things included wich have been added from time to time? And this brings me to my next question: I think Jason anawite if I recall his name right had a site a while ago were he offered a zip archive with a very very big collection of games. They were written in gwbasic from what I remember. Originally, i think they were made for note takers. There were a lot of different games in this collection, including even star wars based ones, often text adventures and the like, but I don't know if each game was text based only. Does anyone know wich collection I mean? It was available on PCS games accessible games list but the site doesn't exist anymore. Were these games dos games as well and are they included in the dosbox? If not, has anyone the collection and would be so kind to upload it or such? From what I remember, the collection was very huge, maybe a few hundred games or over 100. Sorry I don't remember exactly but eventually, someone knows what I mean.

You can get talking dosbox from

http://batsupport.com/unsupported/dosbox/

It works best with the NVDA screen reader. and make sure you read that website and the files on it for the directions on installing talking dosbox. you can even use megadots and wordperfect5.1 and lotus123 inside of it. and even there is a dosbox on the site with windows3.1 and keynote gold multimedia installed as well.

cool, thanks for the tipps, will have a look into it later. And what about the games collection i menssioned? Can it be played in dosbox and has anyone it if you know what I mean? BTW: I even have the possibility to run a real dos in a VM as well, but can I get Screen Readers for dos from someone still?

2017-05-05 18:48:26

hi nickeliss all of the games you want are also on that website i gave to you. just go to that dosbox website in my previous message and you will find everything you want to use.

I'm not sure what the Com0Com issue could be, but just throwing a couple of suggestions out there. Which OS are you using? If you're running Windows 10, do you have UAC enabled? UAC tends to do all kinds of weird crap under 10; it wouldn't surprise me if it's wreaking havoc with this installer as well. Also, are you trying to install the signed driver, or the older, unsigned one that was included with some of the earlier releases of Talking Dosbox?

So, the NVDA version just works with NVDA without any other modifications?

Best regards SLJ.

For me, it doesn't, at least not out of the zip file, maybe we need to do something. I can't get it to work though.

A quick question. I have windows seven 64 bit. I thought I had it run once, but now when ever I run it, it crashes. Do I need to chat the startbns.bat file  to use the doxboxX64  instead of the default?

Well, I searched and I can not find the manual.
That is sad, because I really forgot how to do that thing with com0com or what ever is called.
I know about pair 1 with ports 08 and 09, but I remember it was hard to do.
