the actual reason for the touhou instruments being compatible with ym2612 is because of tecnical similarities. both chips are nearly Identical, the only difference is that the 2608 chip has a different dac and an internal psg based on ym2149 (rebranded version of ay8910 as found in some arcade games and on various western computers among others), neither of which are present on the 2612.

Come to think of it, touhou isn't that well known in my country. granted it was mostly on japanese computers at first, but even the later entries are obscure in the US thanks to lack of Marketing outside Japan.

This sounds really interesting. However it does sound complicated, and also difficult to use with a screen reader. FM synthesis is also not my favorite, though I am by no means saying it is bad or anything. Also, I"m curious about creating original instruments with this thing, which is something I'd like to do because  it would make me feel more responsible for the final result and have a more secure hold on the actual sound chip if that makes any sense. But I'm afraid that would just be too much work and hassle that would involve a lot of messing about with things I don't understand just to get to a place where I can delve into the FM synthesis side of things. So as much as I'd like to check this out, I'll have to put this one on the back burner for a bit until I have a little more time and energy to dedicate to it.

There is a program called XPMCK which claims to be able to work with the YM2612 and the SN76489, to make Genesis music. It uses MML as input. I haven't tried it for this purpose, but I do know a couple people who have, so I know it at least works. I'm not exactly sure how you'd use existing instruments in XPMCK, or how well-supported the chips actually are in terms of their capabilities. So, I'll have to investigate that some as well.

Make more of less, that way you won't make less of more!

(Also I know what Touhou is!)
Now, if I could figure out why my QWS likes to randomly transpose channels and refuse ot let me fix it...
