Making it battery run would make life much easier. But then you need to keep buying batteries. So i will looking into a rechargable solution so the end user hasnt got a running cost to keep using it.

I forgot to mention we have a page on the website where people can leave me their details for when the Sonus in available.

The only mandatory fields you need to fill in are your name email and country and we can send you an email or whatever your prefered contact method is when we are ready to release it.

2016-06-13 18:02:22

It'd be kind of cool if you could just use a regular micro usb cabel with a lithion ion battery but I don't know how much that costs. I know xbox one controllers play and charge kits use that, I think they're around £20 or so.

I have arranged a meeting with a potential manufacturer and am very excited to evaluate our options to get this thing out of the prototype stage. We have also decided we will be developing an RPG game for the sonus however in order to achieve the quailty of game I am aiming for it may take some time. And im not sure how long it will take to get the sonus produced. My idea at the moment it to develop a kind of party game with lots of mini games and unlockables to be released with the console. This would also showcase the variety of game styles that the Sonus can run. And gives us time to ensure our RPG wont be cutting any corners and be to a good standard when it comes out.

What are our thoughts?

2016-06-14 23:50:09

Awesome, sounds great. What will the combat be like, turn based? More action? etc.

Take care, it's a desert out there.

2016-06-15 00:14:50

I havent commited to any game mechanics yet but i think i like the idea of a bit of a mix of turn based and skill. Such as attack and then hit the button again at the right time to increase chances of a critical hit. Similair for when an enemy attacks you. A skill based mechanic can be used to reduce damage taken

Im playing with a lot of ideas at the moment

2016-06-15 01:10:57

I dunno about everyone else, but pure turn based would be kinda meh. I like the sound of adding interactivity into attacking and defending. We've had a few select thing from menue, sit back and listen to results type games over the years. Adding in timed button presses for parrys, directional inputs to influence power outputs of attacks and the like would be the ideal way of keeping this type of game fresh. The paper mareo games, some final fantacy games (X for example) as well as others used this mechanic really well.

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

This sounds fantastic.

aha!
an audio game console with an RPG style of games.
well well?
why not you make a pokemon games.
where you play a role of a pokemon trainer and you are bound to have 6 pokemons at the time.
and a turn based combat like that entombed have.
maybe you can have a game for PC then add an internet support for a counsole and the gamer use pc for internet and console for playing pokemon game.
Thanks
Ishan

2016-06-16 15:05:55

@Ishan: one word: licensing. We can't just make games like that, not for a commmercial console. Nintendo would shut it down in an instant.

2016-06-16 20:44:56

Unfortunatly Aaron is correct. We can make games in a similair style such as a monster catching and training game but if we use the intillectual property of anyone else we will have legal issues

2016-07-04 22:06:09

How does everyone feel about making the Sonus battery powered, four AAs to be precise. They produce 6 volt and can be sent through a regulator to drop them to 5 volt which the Sonus requires. Lithium Ion would have been preferable but is giving me a hard time trying to regulate to charging

Also we are working on Bananza the party style game to be released with the Sonus, which will include various mini games and different playable characters. I think that style of game would be perfect for the replay-ability while we get the GDE out there and also gives us time to not rush our own RPG game we plan on making

here is a link to a quick demo of the Bananzas main menus and selectable characters if anyone is interested

Hi.
Regarding the batteries, it would be just fine for me, and really great, since you can just take more batteries with you on the go.
Nice demo from the party game you are making. The voice in the menu doesn't need to say selected for each menu item, simply because when a menu item is spoken, then it's selected. smile Keep up the fantastic great job.

Pretty much an equivalent to Crazy Party, now on the Sonus. Awesome! In the future it could be expanded with more unlockable minigames and worlds. Regarding the batteries, I am completely fine with that.

2016-07-06 18:17:44

The menu voice has been changed. Thanks as always SLJ. We seem pretty happy with it being battery run so unless anyone has any objections I think I will stick with that plan.

Also glad to see the party game idea is being recieved well. Any suggestions for what to include? What you would like to get added in? Its still open for editing right now

2016-07-07 02:32:53

What you could include is a lot of unlockable worlds with minigames. If you haven't checked out Crazy Party, crazy party, it is essentially a Mario-party like audio game. While the Sonus game may not have the actual games, the idea could be the same. Unlockable worlds to beat, with around 6 to 8 games in each. That would add tons of replayability. Do you plan to add wifi support to the console, or at least support for a usb wifi dongle, and add live support to the console like mainstream consoles have?

2016-07-07 08:18:52

@Aaronlp: I'm just glad to give some suggestions. smile
Maybe a game like You don't know Jack? Or maybe a special version of Bop it, with trophies and unlockables? Just dance or a game like Space channel would be fantastic.
I really wish the game called Sound Shapes was accessible. Find out more by watching this review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8aVy3O7zlk
I don't know how it should be made accessible though, since the music tracks you build might drown the more important audio if it was an audio game only. But maybe it could be made if the player can adjust the volume of the music track so the audio which is used for navigating the levels can be heard.

Um, my main concern with the battery thing is how often someone will need to replace them, or if they have rechargeable batteries, recharge them.

The universe is a rain storm. We are droplets sent to quench the problems of the world, yet we are blown sideways by the winds of distractions.

2016-07-08 18:40:02

That video looks very interesting SLJ. I will look further into that when I get time. Unfortunantly I havent played many audio games so a lot of those names arnt familiar to me. Could you tell me more about the game mechanics?

Sorry I also dont know what braillomon is Ishan but a I like the idea of a racing game. Im planning on including one in Bananza

As for the battery concern. Im unsure of the milliamp usage. I plan to shove a usb stick full of mp3s in it one day and see how long it last. I will let you know once I try it.

What games do you wanna know more about?

I dont really know any of them so maybe pick a favourite or a brief description of each?
Im just trying to get an idea of what type of games people would like and how they would work. I only need a concept. I can work out the kinks.

Hello Aaron, I suggest you to check the games by Aaron Backer. I think are the best in quality for our european market. There are also japanese audiogames but it's difficult for you to try them. You can try these games because are long demo versions
Here is Paladin Of the sky, an rpg game that I like very much: http://vgstorm.com/paladin_of_the_sky.php
And here The Gate, a very cool side scroller: http://www.vgstorm.com/the_gate.php
If you can try, other very cool games are Shadow Line, an rpg and Bokurano Daybouken 3 an action side scroller.
Cheers,
Ambro

@Aaronlp: You can easily find more information on the games I talk about by searching on Google. Most of the games I talk about are mainstream games.

Hello all,

Its been a while since I have been on the forum or posted anything regarding the Sonus project  but work has never stopped on its development. Right now i am testing battery management and ensuring it runs without error or data corruption when the battery voltage starts to drop.

I am posting to ask a quick question. I am about to begin work on the G D E debug mode ( this will allow the game designer to play the game in the development enviroment for testing purposes without having to build the game). I am trying to ensure the G D E is as user friendly as I can make it and wonder what screen reading software is most popular as I will have to download one myself to test with the program. After I am happy with it I will send it out to testers to streamline it for me.

So what screen readers do we all use? And as always I am open to any questions what so ever
