Thanks for your reply. Sounds interesting. It's a shame that there is no online possibilities on the console to play games online etc. Single player games are also awesome. I look forward to hear more about this as the developement goes.

Best regards SLJ.

I see a few issues with Proprietary cartrages. These will cost to manufacture, and that cost is going to get passed right on to the consumer, jacking up the game's price in the end. If your developing a game that'll be written to these cartrages, do you order a few hundred of them to be made to meat demand? or 10. This was a problem that a lot of game developers had in the 90s, developing for the N64. They had to attempt to predict how well a game would sell, and manufacture accordingly. IF there game did better then expected, then people faced a wait as extra cartrages were made. If it solled poorly? Then you were left with a massive stock of unsolled cartrages that cost to make.
I know copy protection is a big issue here, I'm just not sure if this is the right way to solve it.

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

Thanks Exodus, I appreciate the insight. It is something that has crossed my mind and my idea to combat unneeded pricing for cartridges was for us to become a whole buyer. We design the cartridge and have a manufacturer sell them to us in bulk. We don't make a loss if we sell the cartridges on to developers who can then upload their game into the cartridge using a custom made cable that will also be made available. of course it is just an idea at the moment but please let me know what you think.

I am open to suggestions if there are any other ideas but we won't get quality games without developers feeling that they can profit securely. However this does make it harder for developers to share their games for non-profit if that is their intention. I am glad you bought this topic up, its one I'm eager to get feedback on.

Hi.
Here is an idea:
If I remember correctly, you mentioned that the console have a SD card slot. Maybe you can make a system where the developers can incrypt their games, so people can buy the games from an online store digitally, copy the games to the SD card and then play them on the console?
More and more games are soled as DLC only, which means people from more countries can buy the games and enjoy them. I think that's the way to go.
Regarding copyright, fewer people will try to crack and hack the games, since not many people play audiogames anyway. So maybe there is no need for putting that much work into protection, but maybe make ways where the developers can make their own protection if they wants to.
Now I'm not a developer, but it would be interesting to hear what language is simular to the language the games have to be written in. I dream about a language which is so easy to learn so I can learn it, but I don't think I'll ever be able to learn any programming language. Lol.

I do agree that downloadable content would be better but Im not sure how I could get encryption working in such a way that one console could read the downloaded game but another console couldn't. Also i believe phyisical media should be available for non computer users.

As for the GDE. It actually doesn't have a programming language. It offers you tools where you can piece a game together and the GDE will output it in a way that the console will recognise it and process it. There will be more informatiom about how to use the GDE with plenty of tutorials on www.sonusinteractive.co.uk in the future.

Do you have a few games in mind? Perhaps maybe audio fire emblem or maybe audio lunar silver star?

2016-06-08 07:47:57

Well, I have a ton of ideas for some great an interesting games, but I can't code.. sad

Hi Leon. We are working on a game to be released with the console which is a story driven mystery/puzzle/action game. We felt our initial game should probably try and be enjoyable by most people and that is what we came up with. We will start concentrating on maybe different genres like strategy or RPG etc afterwards.

You wake with no idea who or where you are with a mysterious voice in your head and you try to work out what is going on and make sense of it all. Its a working progress

Im glad to hear you have ideas SLJ and no coding is needed for the Sonus. We will try our best to supply all the resources and tutorials needed to turn a complete newbie into a game developer so we can give those ideas life. I cant wait to see what people make

2016-06-08 21:42:24

Seriously, really? That sounds fantastic that you don't need to be a coder to learn how to make games for the console. I can't wait to hear more about this. smile

I tried the Sonus today   And even though it is only a prototype, and Aaron knows he still has a way to go Tilly has a finished marketable product, I must say I was impressed with what he's done so far.

2016-06-09 20:48:56

Thank you ZK, nice to know we are on the right track. for those who would like to experience the demo I have now uploaded a youtube video of myself playing through the game. it cut off at the end i'm afraid but we still managed to keep about 8 minutes of it.

Its rough and just shows off some of the Sonus's capabilities, o if you would like to hear it you can ratehr find it on the website www.sonusinteractive.co.uk in the latest news section or watch it directly on youtube with this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmLDamnwrGQ

2016-06-09 22:19:50

Very impressed with the demo. Reminds me of mainstream game storytelling mixed with some more casual combat sequences for now, I like the immersiveness of it.

2016-06-10 07:54:56

wow... I'm really impressed with the demo. Sounds fantastic... How many people is working on the game? Wow, all those great sounds and voiceovers. Even more great ideas for games has come to me. smile I must have this console when it's released.
If there is no TTS build into the console, how do you then check the battery status?

Thank you for the kind words. There was 2 of us working on the demo and the console does actually have TTS support but the quality isnt brilliant. Im thinking of having a simple bleeping system for when battery power is low. At the moment however the prototype is mains power run

2016-06-10 15:52:03

@aaronlp: if you would still like a uk tester, I'm actually from England. Also, is the email listed on the forum actually a valid email address that I can contact you at?

Hi Aaron. Yes the email address is even synced to my phone so I check daily. Please feel free to drop me a message

So we are looking into beginning work for the first pilot game to be released with the Sonus. At the moment we are playing with the idea of a mystery game where you wake with no idea where you are or how you got there. Work out the mystery and use buttons to react quickly to situations in 1 of 3 ways. Aggressive, Defensive or charasmatic. But we are at a position where a change or course wouldn't be a problem.

But perhaps that idea won't be what you guys want. So i thought I better ask.

What genre or style of game do you guys think we should kick things off with.

A strategy. Build armies and conquer territories or maybe an RPG where you explore and open world and go on quests. A shooter where you quickly aim using navigation buttons and fire at different enemies with a variety of guns and weaponry.or perhaps something I havent listed

Why dont we get some requests brainstorming and upvote each others idea. Make sure we kick this thing off right, and make it exactly what you guys want it to be

2016-06-11 11:48:54

I'm mostly into an open world RPG. That would be fantastic.

well I would firstly like to say I have tested the prototype and was hugely impressed. I think it will be fantastic.

as for the first game I'd also personally like an rpg style game with turn based menu driven battles etc. kind of like final fantasy.

but for quick easy things to throw out there I guess shooters would work. thing is they've been done over and over in the past. centre the sound, hit fire. it gets old very quick.

I haven't tried the sdk or what ever it's called so I don't know what's possible or how difficult it would be but I did think maybe a compendium of small simple games would work well. solitaire, freecell, chess, backgammon, all those kinds of things.

Who's that trip trapping over My bridge? Come find out.

2016-06-12 06:16:18

I vote RPG, as that is a genre that is sorely under represented in audio games. I vote turn based as well, being a huge final fantasy and dragon quest fan.

Take care, it's a desert out there.

2016-06-12 11:59:49

So, what does the console look like physically? Like a psp, or some of the other handheld consoles?

Slj, from what I can tell, it is a hand-held device with a d-pad, a pause button, and 5 programmable buttons. No scrollable d-pad or joystick from what I know. As for games, I do agree rpg's would be an excellent start, as well as either an audio fighting game of the caliber of mainstream counterparts, with combos and lots of replayability, or even an action game with those mainstream fighting elements. Hey, Crazy Party for the Sonus would be fantastic! AS long as the console had text to speech, that would be a great game to implement.

2016-06-13 07:53:20

Yes, I know. But I was more thinking about the size, the layout where the buttons are placed, if there is any volume button, how to charge or change the batteries etc.

More RPG suggestions since i last visited. Quickly looking like that will be our first game style. I agree a party style game would be good with lots of mini games etc.

The console volume with be controlled with a wheel that is inline on the audio output. As for battery charging i will have to plan that out with the guys who end up actually making the finished version because the prototype is mains powered. But i am not planning on the finished version being mains powered. That would make it much less portable

2016-06-13 14:53:31

It would be awesome if the console would take the normal A A batteries. I think they are standard world wide. Or maybe you could make a battery pack which is build into the console and can be changed if needed. I don't know what's the easiest and the best solution.

Best regards SLJ.
