Yes I

know this is off topic but it's the only place I could think of to post it.

My dad has an old Laptop that he may be giving to me. We've already loaded

JAWS onto it and so far it seems to work fine but there's one thing I'm a

little confused about. Since Laptops generally don't have the NumPad that

JAWS uses for most of its commands I'm wondering how you access certain

things like switching between the JAWS, PC and Invisible cursors. I've done

it before but always accidentally, and then I could never figure out how to

switch back to the normal cursor. Any help anyone can give me would be

appreciated. I haven't had a whole lot of experience with Laptops.

But wait, what's that? A transport! Saved am I! Hark, over here! Hey nonny non, please help!

Under

options I believe you can select laptop layout, using caps lock instead of

insert. Commands are as follows:
Caps+; PC cursor
caps+p Jaws

cursor
caps+[ Route Jaws to PC
caps + ' Route PC to Jaws
Caps+p twice

quickly Invisible cursor

I

haven't been able to find anything anywhere that lets you change the

keyboard layout. As it's set now those commands don't work.

Maybe you want to assign those functions to different keystrokes. Go

to your desktop, press insert+f2 and select the keyboard manager. Press Tab

on the default keymap. Select for example the RouteJawsToPc script from the

list. Press ctrl+A and then your new keystroke for that script.

I

haven't been able to work out what the deal with classic laptop layout is,

I wouldn't bother with it if I were you.

I even use laptop layout on my

PC, it's handy since I regularly catch the caps lock key by accident. I

also occasionally use the laptop commands on my desktop, not often but

enough that I like having that layout on.

The laptop layout does not

override the standard insert shortcuts by the way, which is good to know.

Also you can often mix and match, if there isn't a special function

assigned to the caps lock key it will work as insert. This means caps lock +

end gives the window title bar, and caps lock + page down gives the status

bar.

Hope this has helped.

Classic means it uses the alt key instead of caps lock; definitely not the

way to go since you could be blocking out menu commands or other hotkeys.

Thanks

for that, that clears things up. I wouldn't have used it anyway since I

like having the caps lock there so I can't knock it. It's good to know

what it is though.
