Good Day

Just wanted to share my new experience.

If your system fails to run due to an error corresponding to lost HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other important system boot files you can repair this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then run "attrib -H -R -S" on the C:\Boot.ini file and remove it. Launch "Bootcfg /Rebuild" and then Fixboot

Cheers,
Carl

Apologies if this seems paranoid, but please reply soon if you're not a spambot. We tend to get a few here suddenly posting off topic stuff out of the blue.

yep. and, isn't booting from a "Windows cd" requiring a "bios" change? It all, I guess wouldn't be accessible, unless you ask a sighted person.

Some if not a lot of bios these days will probably have booting from CD enabled by default, since otherwise how do you install Windows to begin with? Boot floppies have gone the way of the dinosaur. Admittedly an exception might be prebuilt computers from bigger manufacturers though.
