More than 100 days have passed since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and still no trace of the jet has been found. The lack of information has fuelled a surge in conspiracy theories to fill in the gap, ranging from the bizarre to the, bizarrely, almost credible.
Alien abduction
One in 10 Americans believed space aliens or beings from another dimension were involved in the disappearance of the missing plane, according to a poll carried out by CNN and ORC International. The theory held more weight when Chinese media claimed that some passengers' mobile phones were ringing when their relatives called. Also an American spy satellite showed no sign of a mid-air explosion in its image.
Some people still believe this theory 100 days since its disappearance.
MH370 Hid Behind Another Plane
According to aviation enthusiast, Keith Ledgerwood, the plane did not fly southwards but it headed north and flew in the shadow of Singapore Airlines Flight 68, which was en route from Singapore to Barcelona at the time. He wrote in his blog this would have effectively cloaked MH370's radar signal and prevented it from being detected. He said MH370 had been flying without the transponder and would have been invisible to the SIA68. After the plane left SIA68's shadow he believed the plane mostly likely landed in one of several land locations north of India and Afghanistan.
Afghan Hijacking
Flight MH370 was hijacked and landed in Afghanistan where passengers are being held hostage.The bizarre theory has been attributed to an alleged source within the country's FSB secret service, according to newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets.
The source stated: "Flight MH370 Malaysia Airlines missing on March 8 with 239 passengers was hijacked. Pilots are not guilty; the plane was hijacked by unknown terrorists. We know that the name of the terrorist who gave instructions to pilots is 'Hitch'. The plane is in Afghanistan not far from Kandahar near the border with Pakistan."
Moskovsky Komsomolets claims all the passengers are alive and have been divided into seven groups and are living in mud huts with almost no food.
Life Insurance Scam
Malaysian police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said the missing plane could be a huge insurance scam. The police investigations included looking at behavioural patterns of all the passengers captured on CCTV at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
"Maybe somebody on the flight has bought a huge sum of insurance, who wants family to gain from it or somebody who has owed somebody so much money, you know, we are looking at all possibilities," he said.
Pilot Suicide

There were claims Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah may have hijacked the plane on a suicide mission.
Shah's close friend, who refused to be named, told The New Zealand Herald that the 53-year old pilot could have taken the passenger jet for a "last joyride" and was in "no state of mind to be flying" after his wife left him.
His youngest son Ahmed Seth later dismissed the claims his father had any involvement in the disappearance of the flight.
The 26-year-old said: "I've read everything online. But I've ignored all the speculation. I know my father better. We may not be as close as he travels so much. But I understand him."
Electronic Warfare Experiment
It has been claimed that high-tech weaponary could have been used to 'cloak' the MH370 from radar.
Citizen news site Beforeitsnews said: "This type of technology is precisely the expertise of Freescale, that has 20 employees on board the missing flight."
Freescale Semiconductor has been developing microprocessors, sensors and other technology for the past 50 years.
Cracks in the Boeing 777 aircraft
This theory posted anonymously on tumblr following the flight's disappearance suggested that a slow decompression of the cabin left both passengers and pilots unconscious. It cites US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airworthiness Directive from November 2013 which warns about cracks in the fuselage of Boeing 777s underneath the satellite antenna. The theory states the pilots would not have been able to put on their oxygen masks in time and the passengers who would have been trying to sleep on the 'red flight' would not have detected any oxygen deprivation on board the aircraft. It could also explain why another pilot thirty minutes ahead heard "mumbling" from MH370 pilots.
Important Microchip 'Kinesis KL-02' Motive For Pentagon Hijack Of MH370
Four Freescale Semiconductor employees had patent rights to microchip, Kinesis KL-02, the world's smallest microcontroller - seen as the "key to next-generation warfare". It is believed by conspiracy theorists that Jacob Rothschild, an alleged illuminati member, exploited the aircraft to then become sole owner of the important patent.

US Military Base
The United States denied claims that the plane landed at a military base on the island of Diego Garcia, in the central Indian Ocean. A spokesperson for US embassy in Malaysia told the New Straits Times: "These reports are completely false. MH370 did not land in Diego Garcia. This is a baseless conspiracy theory."
Asian Bermuda Triangle
Malaysian politician Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin sparked outrage when he alleged a new Bermuda Triangle in Vietnamese waters was the cause behind the plane's disappearance.
He responded to a tweet by television host Piers Morgan about the plane that vanished with 239 people on board.
Morgan wrote: "Incredible in the modern age that a large hi-tech passenger plane can just 'disappear'. Praying for a miracle for the 239 people on board."
