AudioQuake is multiplayer, and you don't need the internet to
play.

You need to get hold of the Quake data files,
but it is very different. If you have a local network you can use that, or
you can use the internet. Major drawback is you need Windows 2000 or XP
unfortunately.
Alternatively there's Alter Aeon, it's a constant world
where you can interact and go on quests. It's text based, but still very
fun and there's a good community on there.
