Hi,
I created a version of talking dosbox that includes windows 3.1 and window eyes 1.1. You must use the braille n speak emulator for window eyes to talk.

Have you joined the mailing list? If so, you should announce this there.
It's too bad Jaws, even in the early floppy days, is copy protected. And in those days, there was no such thing as forty-minute mode. If you wanted to try out the software, you had to pay around $40 for them to ship you a timed evaluation, good for sixty days on one computer. If you decided to buy the full product, you paid the rest of the money, and were given instructions to convert your timed evaluation to a full version.
the way things are, windows is a bit buggy to use, the soundcard support is notoriously bad due only to it's lack of proper ability to emulate. it likes to glitch sometimes. upon an exit of windows it crashes, I tried to install keynote gold; it crashed; tried to install an ancient asaw version I had; it crashed epically; tried to install software window bridge; it crashed. dosbox does not! like win 3.11 with speech.
thanks. this will be interesting. by the way, what old windows programs would you recommend for use with window eyes 1.x?
If the sound card worked properly, i would recommend monologue for windows and willow pond tts.
Also, I found the old dzip game interpreter which means I can play the games that are on my braillenote in dos box or in the windows command line.
Hi,
Thanks for this. I got it to work as well and I also managed to fix the soundcard.
The problem is that the soundblaster windows driver was installed with IRQ 5. Dosbox sets it to IRQ 7 as some programs seem to weirdly work better this way. Normally, programs should just use the blaster variable to figure this out, but Windows is an exception to this. So, you will need to get the soundblaster 16 install disks (the vmware Windows 3.1 with speech VM has them in the sb16 folder). In dosbox.conf, find the line that says ems=true and set it to false, otherwise the soundblaster installer will freeze. Then, run dosbox, get into the sb16 folder or wherever your drivers are, set cycles to max and, with ASAP running type install. Follow the prompts, you can leave the first screen with all the paths as is. On the second screen where you configure the card settings, press enter on the IRQ and change it from 5 to 7. Then let the installer do its thing, replace any files if it asks you to, and when it's done start Windows. You'll know that it worked if the startup sound plays all the way instead of getting interrupted, and if you try to play a wav file in media player it should actually play instead of giving you a device in use error.
I haven't tried installing keynote or monolog into this but I don't see why it shouldn't work.
Hth
the installer lags and generally hates asap so bad on my system it is almost impossible to understand, let alone use.
sorry for the doublepost, but I got it to work... sort of. it installed, then I rebooted as it asked. however the windows startup still interrupts itself, and things still break.
please help asap.
I also still get windows media player deSET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6
ice in use errors... seems as if autoexec.bat doesn't autoexec
OK, I zipped up my windows and soundblaster folders.

Hopefully, this will fix the sound problems for you.
I reuploaded my version of talking dosbox.
It now includes the sb16 and windows folders that Pitermach posted.
Pitermach, Can you please upload this to your websight?
Thanks.
hey there is an ftp site you can upload to. you'll have to email tony by getting on the talking dosbox email list at [email protected] . also does this dosbox use NVDA to speak with the dos screen readers?
I posted a version of the braille n speak server that uses the speech player edward voice.

thanks. now if only you could do a version of the server that uses the NVDA versions of eloquence, dectalk, or softvoice.
I uploaded a version of the bns server that uses the mbrola voices.

I wish the keynote gold multimedia could be loaded into a server with a windows3.1 compatibility layer and talk through speechHub then we could use it with NVDA.
Your welcome. To get talking dosbox with mbrola and some other interesting things, you can get it from http://grossgang.com/utilitys/talking%20dosbox.exe
correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't there a windows 3.1 version of internet explorer?
also, what midi to wav converters available for dos or windows 3.1?
