You can still buy and play the games directly from the choice of games website, use the "buy now" button in their games.
I'd be very disappointed if Steam was the only way to play them on Windows given how accessible steam isn't, but thankfully from what I've seen on the site that isn't the case and you can buy the games directly from them and play online.
I don't even think all their games are ported to steam either, though to be honest given lack of steam access I couldn't care less really.
Btw, yes I know people have struggled through steam with ocr and guess work, but so long as steam requires such extraordenary measures it's not accessible, after all sighted people don't need to use ocr?
Hi,
Unfortunately I don't think choice of games support paypal though which is a shame, given that they like donations.
Yep, it's just creddit cards they accept though if you contacted them they'd probably suggest a way you could directly donate if you wished (they're hardly going to turn down money). , but to be honest though, I wouldn't donate to choiceofgames anyway, ---- not because I think they're not worth it but because there is already such a good lot of stuff to buy from them you might as well give them your custom by buying their games and (on ios at least), paying the bit extra to remove adds in their free titles like Choice of the dragon.
This also has a vague bennifit with vo sinse if your using continuous read and the add pannel changes, your continuous read stopps and you'll need to find your place and start off again, although it's not crucial, particularly sinse with vo you'll probably never see the adds anyway as they're located right at the bottom of the page under the text and choices. Still I did donate for choice of the dragon for that reason.
I wouldn't be surprised if Android worked the same way in terms of adds, though I'm not absolutely sure of course.
Some of our games are available via the Windows Store. The Heroes Rise trilogy is available for Windows via Steam. We also have the Chrome web store and our own web store.
If you dislike the Windows Store, Steam, and Chrome, and you don't have a credit card, you can email me, and we can have you pay us via Paypal and then I could comp you a copy of a game on our webstore.
Also, we took the Donations button off our website some three years ago.
Hi jason and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately Steam is almost completely inaccessible due to having text that can't be read via screen readers, and chrome is not very accessible either. I'm not personally sure about the windows store having never used it.
To be honest the single best method for access on windows is just buying directly and playing streight off on the choiceofgames website sinse all screen readers can handle streight up html pages. So it is good that paypal payments can be arranged that way, and that you do have that option available. I will update the choiceofgames page on the database and mention as much in case the creddit card thing is putting people off.
Where is this store you are talking about? I do have a credit card, but I don't think you can play these games without chrome. Is this a new store? because a few months ago when I tried to buy a game I could only buy it on chrome, iOS or android...
Hi
There hasn't really been much that has been told or announced or what you will about the choice of games web store, but here is how I know it works. I'm really vague on the details though, having never used it myself. although I probably would if I knew a bit more about how it works etc
@ogomez92, if you go to cog's website, and play one of their games online, you will see a button I.E $2.99 besides the other links for the appstore,google/crome store etc. if you click on that button, you will be able to enter your creditcard info and can play the hole game online on your browser instead of the demo.
@Jason, I do have a few questions when it comes to buying game on the webstore. The first question I have is,how does it recognize
that you indeed have bought a copy of the game. I.E is it a account based system?E-mail ID? or cookeys stored in the computer
Once having bought the game, can you access it from anywhere that is as long as you have internet access? or will it work for a particular machine only (the one it was bought at?)
grryf
Well buyying games directly from the site as opposed to using Chrome or whatever is a new feature hence why you might not have seen it before when you visited.
@Grryf, it's an account based system, when you hit "buy" you'll be asked to enter your E-mail address and password. As Jason said in the other topic cookies are used to save your progress, but if it stored your perchices via a cookie it'd be a little unfare sinse one temporary internet files recet and pow!
As I said above I'm actually pleased the Choiceofgames site has this option to play on Windows, indeed if I hadn't bought an Iphone that's the option I'd be using too.
And offline access? Does the web store let you download what you buy or playing locally in your browser, or must you be online to play it?
I do appreciate the fact that I can be offline on iOS. When I have had no connectivity, the worst part has been being surprised by one of those in-app purchases. I'd sooner "Upgrade" to everything (which is very satisfying, and makes me feel good about helping out CoG) as soon as I start my game, then wander off to play it when I'm at dad's where the coverage is useless.
The offline access is another point in favour of playing on Ios and something I've used myself too as opposed to playing via the website directly.
Regarding in ap perchices, well apart from removing adds in the free games, the only game I've run into in ap purchices with so far was Zombi exodus, and what I did was used the "start at episode" option to go and buy chapters 3-5, so I've got them all to play and won't need to buy them later, though then I reset the game and started from the start.
It's a bit of a cheat but i do agree with you it's better to have the hole lot available. actually it might be nice if when you started the game you could directly go to the in ap purchice page and buy all further parts so that you've got them when you need them, rather than specifically having to buy them later, but I don't really mind too much.
It does seem a little odd that accounts on the choiceofgames site are machine specific, I thought they would've worked like accounts in Browser mmorpgs where you can use whichever computer you like so long as you remember your E-mail address and password.
I suppose though it might be a symtom of the games being ported to systems like Ios, sinse I'm fairly sure that while your gamecenber account would remember your achievements from game to game, your actual save is machine specific, though as I've only got the one Iphone I've not been able to test this.
I think the reason is simply that the whole game engine is developed and interpreted in javascript, which effectively constrains what it can do to the browser or renderer that it's in. If CoG started allowing accounts to be synchronised they would suddenly be creating a dependency on the network, though there's nothing stopping them doing that in a safe way that gave the user control over when to sync or restore.
Of course, on iOS their app could store session state in iCloud, but that only works for other iOS devices.
