Hi,
Is it okay to just take sounds from other games and use them in your

games? I've done it like I took the footsteps in monkey escape from self

destruct and stuff but i was wondering if it's okay to do that.
Thanks

i

actually think that you must get permission from the game developers but

since xlStudios is gone its ok i think.

hi

mike,
yeah you can, infact i do it constantly in my mods, but one day

because i modded tj so simmilar to treasure hunt i asked munawar and if it

was ok,
phillip didn't want it distributed because it was his game, and

munawar said that if it was distributed just don't use the music.

but

yeah, you can mix all the sounds from different games.

The recorded sounds and music are copyrighted as is the software itself so

permission for use is necessary. This is true even if a company is not

currently in business as in the case of XLStudios. The proper course of

action is to request permission for the use. Not receiving a response does

not provide license for use; permission must be explicit. That being said,

use of sounds for modding will most likely be acceptable to most companies

and individuals. The only concern some might have it the distribution of the

software/sounds/music to others who have not purchased a license to use the

software and the included audio tracks.

hello,
moast of sounds used by game developers
are taken from sound

librarys
that are eather downloaded from the internet, or perchised, now,

sound coppyright is not the same as the software coppyright:
by buying or

downloading the sounds ,the developer has to take the sound or sounds

commpanys coppyright, but the software coppyright
is the developers

rights,now than
if you use coppyrighted sounds, you are violing the sounds

coppyright, and by destributing the software, you are violating the

developers coppyrights:
you can ask for an othorisation to destribute the

software,developed by the game developer
but you can use a sound or

sounds, with out othorisation from the developer[unless of coress, the sounds

are actualy prodused by the developer him self]
thanks

Y

is correct. There are two copyrights in effect. One is the software, the

actual code. The other is the sound recordings. The sound recordings might

actual have two copyrights as well, one for the the actual recording and the

other for the content, if the content is created by the individual such as

music. The theme music for Chillingham is owned by Bavisoft as well as the

recording. The sound of a door slamming isn't owned by anyone, but the

recording someone makes is. A tree is not owned, but the photograph is. If a

developer has licenses to use other sounds or music,  those licenses should

be stated in the software readme or licensing portion. If the developer has

a license to use third party sounds or music this does not provide licese

for others to use or distribute those recordings. It just means you have to

find out who owns the recordings to be granted permission from them.

Licenses are usually not transferable and just because a sound exists on the

internet it doesn't mean it is free to use.
