Hello

I am usually not into gaming, but I have been lurking for a long time in the Audiogames Forums.

I have noticed the interest in the NVDA screen reader which I really really think is coming of age.

JAWS in newer versions is getting very annoying on webpages with Firefox.

The only drawback to using NVDA is the terrible Espeak speech.
I am old schooler and love Eloquence.

Yesterday while doing some related research on SAPI, I found a solution to the NVDA +Eloquence problem.

I now use NVDA with Eloquence (same as the default US-English JAWS voice) which is very cool.

Drop me a PM or email me at [email protected] if you want my solution.

Kind regards
Michael

I have a solution to NVDA though mine comes with the actual NvDA eloquence driver.

Sure, but are we allowed to post direct download links to the driver?
I don't want to get the forum in trouble.

But offering people the general opportunity to discuss a general solution to a problem in private is not likely to cause problems for the forum because it's not illegal.

well, people don't really mind about it. Burak has the e-t-i eloquence driver on his website.. Just search for one of buraks posts, and go to the link at the bottom.

Well I have jaws, so I know I have the driver. How do you patch it in to nvda?

2012-10-21 15:57:14

We've discussed this very thing quite a few times on different posts and topics; I myself have provided links to the eloquence driver because I hardly believe that nuance has any interest in truly helping the blind, else they would have worked with the NVDA devs to strike up a deal of some sort that would benefit the community, given that they haven't worked on eloquence in years.  This troubles me; they won't call it abandonware but they damn sure should.

When life gives you oranges, demand lemons since everyone else is obviously getting them.

Here is the abandonware speech package containing IBM ViaVoice Eloquence for Windows and Linux.

As an extra bonus I have included the old but functional Infovox 230 trial software package Infovox230v2.2complete.exe.

Use ckgen to generate a trial key which will last for 3000 days.

I guarantee that the files will always be available from at least one location.

I have much more abandonware to trade.

None of the files in that package is abandonware. Recently, acapela confirmed that infovox 230 is abandonware. Eloquence for linux is still for sale, and this sapi4 is not free. I am not going to tell you to remove this, but I would suggest that you make sure that the license is actually abandonware before posting things.

Ok, for those of you looking for the NVDA Eloquence driver, the "actual!" driver, get it
Here
BTW, its the exact same driver that Nocturnus was talking about in the 6th post.
Enjoy!
Also, um, why talk about the sapi 4 version of Eloquence in the first place? Especially since the screen reading companies are encouraging users of them to uninstall it? Come on now...

Well, I am surely greatful someone posted this stuff up. I can't stand!!!! any of the new human sounding gimmicky crappy voices and will always cling to eloquence. It's not that I am against change, I just think all these human sounding voices are crap. 1: They hog memory, while PCs have an abundance of ram these days, I don't want a huge voice parking it's self in their and using a bunch of it regardless. 2: they seem to mis pronounce stuff, or pause for stupidly long periods of time when you don't want them to. 3: for mobile use you may as well get a friend to follow you about, yelling out all the stuff that's happening  on your mobile screen at least then the bunch of people that are going to quietly nosy at what your private messages say will look at them while their doing it and not you. So yeah, if screen reader companys are so set on killing off eloquence why not just let it become public domain for us all to use

You should use the echo Speech if they were ever implimented to Windows. There is a way to make them sound human, and the thing is, you can find many of Echo's content on toys prouced by Texas Instruments.

Thank you so much. I was on the NVDA bug tracker  while the driver was still officially provided, but thought it was no longer online.
I didn't know about before you post and frankly thought that it no longer worked.

That of course obviates the need for installing the SAPI4 version.

2012-10-25 17:18:09

your of corse screwed if any part of the synth driver framework gets changed, so it's probably still good to hang on to the sapi version

Thank mrsharegood, but you should have included more detailed instructions about Infovox.
I managed to install it after some fiddling in Virtualbox.

In order to install Infovox as a 30+ day trial, one must do the following:
1) Install Infovox with all the desired voices.

2) Open the license manager.
3) Activate the  built in 30 day trial license.

Now proceed to the site key generation. There must  still be time left of the trial for the following procedure to work.

4) Read/copy paste  the site code from the license manager.

5) Start ckgen.exe and tab down to the site code field, and ppaste the site code you retrieved from the license manager.

6) Tab down to the checkbox Add to license and check it.

7) Tab down to the radio button Limits and select Days In the Days field, enter a high value i.e 2000 days.

8) Tab further to the Generate button and generate a site key.

9) Copy the generated key and enter it in the license manager.

If these steps fail:

Uninstall Infovox 230 completely.

Stop the service Crypkey license.

In Windows XP, enter this command from the command prompt:

net stop "Crypkey License"

Delete the files ckldrv.sys and  crypserv.exe in the root folder (c:\).

Delete the root folder infovox.lic.
Delete the file(s)  esnecil.* in c:\windows\system32.

Also delete the following files, if present,  in c:\windows (or the folder where Windows is installed).

    C:\WINDOWS\Setup_ck.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Setup_ck.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\Ckrfresh.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Ckconfig.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Crypserv.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ckldrv.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\Crypkey.ini
    C:\WINDOWS\CKSNNT.flg

Crypkey records trial info in registry under:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]

You will find two values under that key:

    "CurrentBuildId "
    "SystemType "

These are created by crypkey. They can be deleted.

Restart your computer (though that may not always be mnecessary).

Install Infovox 230 again and continue with step 2.

Thanks again Mrsharegood for a good share.

I apologize for my English.

m

Instructions for installation of Infovox 230 updated.

Take care.

Hey guys,

This is my first post here so pls don't chew me up... I mean I'm not even blind so... ya pls be nice haha smile

Anyway, I'm reading here and it seems you can get Eloquence to work with NVDA, do any of you know if its possible to do it with the Windows Narrator?

2015-06-26 12:02:43

Hi.

This is not possible for now. It might be in the future but i don't know.

I'm gone for real :)

2015-06-26 13:39:48

I don't think so, since eloquence does not work with the sapi engine. At least it does not work with sapi5. You might be able to install eloquence sapi4 into windows2000 and do it since windows2000 narrator is using sapi4.

I post sounds I record to freesound. Click here to visit my freesound page
I usually post game recordings to anyaudio. Click here to visit my anyaudio page

2015-06-26 17:16:51

Yep, sapi4 voices will work with narrator on windows 2000 and windows nt, I actually have the 2000/nt version of narrator ripped from windows2000 somewhere, if I find it I can upload it.

2015-06-26 22:54:05

Ok, so if not then probably not for the Win8 narrator

Well i had to try.

2015-06-27 01:02:32

Hey guys, me again.

I found a very old, and probably bad, version of Eloquence.

Is a sapi 4 version.

Armed with this info, does anyone think they can give me a solution for using the Windows 8 Narrator with Eloquence?

2015-06-27 04:24:52

You must've found viavoice outloud, is it the version that sounds like he can't speak right?

2015-06-27 19:26:08

Nope.

Its ETI Eloquence 5.0

I know its a "bad" version of Eloquence, but if there is a way I can use it on Narrator, I'm willing to take it.

2015-06-27 19:40:23

Why do you say eti-eloquence 5.0 is bad.
I think it is a good version.
Also, eti eloquence 6.1 works on windows 2000.
