I wish
to apologise in advance for those not interested in web based games, but for
those who like games with a big community feel and like their science
fiction then this is for you.
Warring factions, mentioned on the Audyssey
magazine once. It's just had a reset so it's all new factions, and
everyone's on a level playing field. Since no one has a crushing advantage
over anyone else yet this is the perfect time to join.
I'm in the
Underground, and a proud member of the Academy empire. Empires are the
equivalent of clans in this game just to explain, and the Academy was
formerly in the Alliance but has reformed in the new Underground. The
Academy was set up as a learning empire, but since then we've had our fair
share of fights and have come out pretty well.
There have been no major
fights as yet, since everyone's too far apart to find each other yet. Even
later on though you should be safe in the home region, which larger players
guard fiercely from the other factions. Fighting within a faction is almost
non existent, except for extreme circumstances such as multi
accounts.
The Academy will welcome new members, but we're cautious
because of the afore mentioned multi accounts. This is where a player from
another faction creates a second account in another faction to gain
information on colony and fleet positions, as well as sending technology to
their original account. Very occasionally they create accounts to disrupt
the home system, but this is generally even worse form than spying and very
rare.
All you need is a screen reader that can handle HTML, and a web
browser that can handle the site. Users of Internet Explorer should do fine.
Whilst there has not been as huge strides in technology as when I joined a
month or two back there has been some advancement in the few days since
reset, so if you join an empire they might have some technology to give you.
The research is the best part, and now it's even better because your
blueprints might actually be used. A couple of months ago new players
couldn't produce anything on a level with the older players, and that
incarnation had lasted at least a couple of years.
The game is intended
to be persistent, the reset was to fix what the admins saw as balance
issues. That should hopefully be the last reset ever. If you prefer more
often resets there is always the deathmatch server, which resets under
certain conditions I believe and has a much more frantic pace. This is the
sort of thing you check in on rather than playing solidly, your colonies are
ticking over all the time whether you're logged in or
not.
