This topic may look weird, but there's a reason for it being named like this. I've been told by people that I am really good at voice acting, and I want to see if anyone would hire me. If anybody wants to hear a sample just let me know and I'll gladly record something for you. Thanks in advance.

I'm graduating in about 14 hours, maybe a little bit longer, but yes. That's why I went ahead and posted.

Hey nice, outta school finally, real life begins, and you find out that your parents weren't just telling you cliches about school being the best part of your life when the real world delivers a one-two, then a round house kick, then when you're on the ground, trying to tap out, it kicks you in the balls. Ahem, I mean, uh, carry on, smoke cigars etc. I'm just a cynical fuck. Do kids still smoke cigars at graduation like they did in my year? It was like some big thing finally doing whatever you wanted. When I got my ID, I left the DMV, went right into the Bookland at the other end of the strip mall, went into the Ao section and grabbed up a few porno mags, that was nice.

At graduation, my family had to be in the auditorium, and watch a video feed since the graduation took place in the gym due to weather. They never came to meet up with me after, so I started walking around the area. I went all over the first floor, not just the gym, then I couldn't find them and my friends kept thinking they weren't there, so I got up on the top bleachers and yelled, would the family belonging to Brandon Cross please report to the gym. Still no fucking dice, so I walked around a little bit more, I was finally just gonna turn in my gown (we got to keep the cap and tassel) and go wait in the car lol, then finally I found them.

Oh, and my so-fucking-called college prep rich bitch school didn't even know which fucking way the god damn tassel started, did you put it at the right, and move it over to the left when your name gets called or was it the other way around, I still don't remember, think it was right to left, rather than left to right, but they had to do this last minute check lol. We could have done it at the football field, it never did rain, it just kinda looked gloomy. I feel bad for the peeps that had to sit in the gym though, it was hot in there. The auditorium had air conditioning, those peeps were lucky, and i mean, they were watching the video in realtime, also, the gym and auditorium were right down from one another like the very next door.

Try Fiverr. I got a lot of voice acting work from there when I was working on TDV2 (the gentleman who plays Julius Brutus is from Fiverr.): https://www.fiverr.com/categories/music … oice-overs

I loved their services, and you can find paid work there easily. Since most on this forum are hobbyist developers, you probably won't get a real "job" just by asking here. Expand your horizons, think bigger. You made it through high school, so why limit yourself now?

Actually I just made it through high school. I'd be really happy if I had made it through university though.

Edited, because that seems to be the important thing from the whole post. big_smile

I would be interested in hearing some lines, I don't have a job to offer but I think you should probably do that anyway, at least that's what I would do in your position, not having a list of past material to reference like already established voice actors.

Should I write up a script?

Here's a sample of my voice over abilities. I cleverly mixed humor in with my voice acting, so you guys should get at least a good chuckle out of it if nothing more.

Again, if you're looking for paid work, try Fiverr as I mentioned in post 6. You'll have much better luck there, especially since nowadays people are resorting to using synthesizers for "voice over" work.

Although, at the end of the day it really depends on how serious you are about having your voice over career take off. People here don't get paid much, and most of it is volunteer work. So if you want to go small-time only, just keep looking here and someone will pick you up eventually.

Also Opengameart and freesound

Your sample was excellent. Hope you are successful as a voice actor. I don't se any reason why you shouldn't be.

@flackers @ironcross32 Thanks guys, that means a lot to me.
@Munawar Yeah I looked into Fiver. The problem with it is I wouldn't be making very much money from it, because they encourage you to charge $5.00 for your work. I feel like this video explains why this is a bad idea, even though the guy is a bit harsh about it. I tried voices.com but I decided against that too, because they tell you when you do work for someone you're licensing your voice to them, them being voices.com. You also have to pay subscription costs, even if you're a contributor. I don't want to pay someone to do work for them, especially if they're saying they own the rights to my work. At the same time though, I don't want to work on a platform where I'm only going to earn $5 for my work, because then that wouldn't be very profitable. It looks like I'm stuck between one or another though.

For voice acting, I was paying their famous $5, per minute. So that's not a price tag on the entire work; at least for voice acting, it's $5 / minute. So, if you end up doing a lot...you end up getting $5 for every minute of recording time. not too shabby. big_smile

Otherwise, I agree with the YouTube video re: driving down prices. Open-source software and people who believe that everything, everywhere, should be open-source are doing the same thing: ultimately devaluing the hard work developers spend on writing software because, ultimately, "we have a right to free code!" to the point where nowadays it's become a crime to charge for software. What a way to tell developers you appreciate their work. You know, we'll star you on GitHub but we won't pay your bread and butter. What's that? Don't like it? Well, like, can't you do other things to make money? Hey look, Linux does it, by providing support. See? So you can give us your software for free, and charge outrageous cost for support (which, by the way, because your software isn't essential, no one will pay for.) Good-bye, paid software developers. We love you, just not too much.

Oh, and of course they always say "if your software is good enough, people will honestly donate towards it." Yup...Just what we need...reliance on unstable support of donations to feed our families.

I only open-sourced TDV after I had another source of income. Before that, no way would I have done that.

2018-06-06 01:37:58

@Munawar Totally agreed. I mean yeah, if you're not supporting a game it would be great if you open sourced it, but you shouldn't have to make all your software open sourced and not everything should be released for free. Everything is worth something, no matter how small the amount.
