I've put out a minor update to Three-D Velocity. If you select spectator mode in the free for all, it will work now. There are small issues such as the afterburners not turning off when the aircraft you're spectating releases their afterburners, but these problems will be corrected in a future update.

Another issue I've fixed is the message of the day. Previously, if you set a message of the day, a client would receive the message about ten seconds after they connected to the server. Now, the message of the day is displayed immediately upon connect.

The client will be asked to press ENTER to continue. I had to do it this way, since not all screen readers implement a way for us to wait until it is done speaking, so there was no reliable way to tell when the screen reader finished speaking the message and for the online menu to show up.

As always, you can download the latest release from Github at this URL: https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-Velocity

Both binary and source code releases are available. The change log on the Github page will detail which issues have been fixed.

I know many of you have frowned at how much information the server outputs to the log file, and I have a plan to implement log levels in a later release to make the logs less verbose.

The good thing is I have access to two laptops now so I can really test the server, and will be correcting many issues as time goes on.

Hi Munawar.
Thanks a ton for keep working on this awesome game. So, are you saying that the server crash issues are fixed? I don't know what causes the server to crash. It crashes when adding a bot as far as I remember. This has been reported multiple times in the other topic.
I'll see if the server runs more stable, and if it do, I'll gladly host one 24/7.

Best regards SLJ.

Hi,
Well "stability" is a relative term smile but as far as hosting a server is concerned, maybe not at the moment, mostly because of the log size. I'm currently working on fixing some issues that some people opened on the Github repo and plan to push another update soon which will hopefully bring a lot of stability with it.

So, it's a work in progress. If you do host the server, keep your logs around in case it crashes.

I'm getting this error while trying to open tdv.exe

TDV.exe - Application Error  dialog  An error has occured. A log has been generated.

You'll need to edit that post with the contents of the log pasted there, otherwise, there is nothing that can be done, since the log will give the developer information about what is causing the issues and so forth.

Also, for open-source projects, it's best to report issues on the Github pages, not on a forum. Forums typically don't have the bug tracking features and things like that to help developers mark problems off of their checklists. You can find the TDV issues page here: https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-Velocity/issues

I'm getting some people emailing me privately too with issues and it's getting rather annoying, so please be the light of my day and take your issue to Github smile

Thanks for your reply Munawar. I have never reported something on Github yet, but you inspire me to give it a try. I'll put up a server as soon as possible, keep an eye on how it goes, and report it if it crashes. I'll help where I can, but have always found Github confusing, but I'll give it a try.

Best regards SLJ.

Version 2.15 is available. One of the changes I've made is to take the what's new section out of the main page and put it into it's own change log file. A highlight of this release is the ability to control logging level in the server. You can check out the new features and fixes in 2.15 by going to this link: https://github.com/munawarb/Three-D-Vel … angelog.md

Thanks to everyone who's been reporting issues, and I hope you like this new version!

Hi all.
I have a server running on server.coolfortheblind.dk. I hope you enjoy. It seems to run quite stable so far.

@SLJ, thanks for helping to test the server, it's much appreciated! I'm hoping to keep releasing incremental updates until we get to the point where TDV online is playable long term without issues smile

Hello. Love this new version. Seems to run quite well over here as well. I do have a server up as well. host is jc-hosting.me and you all feel free to just play with  yourselves with bots or get other people to play with you. I've tried it with a couple of bots and as far as I can see, no lagging over here.

for me server starts but doesn't allow connections, but I'm running on linux under wine so heheh, I've done it before though and that worked, I also have firewall set to allow connections to those ports. I wouldn't run servers on windows if you paid me.

Also, slight annoyance, when it fails to connect, gotta listen to the entire message like, not interruptable. I'm like yeah I know I know already frig off bud. I can create an issue on github if needed, but it would be nice to be able to smack a key and have that message frig off back to the menu.

Hi.
@Munawar: No problem. I'm just glad to help. I have found an interesting bug which makes the server crash. I'll create an account on Github later to submit the bug.
@ironcross32: I'm running the server on Linux as well. Wine won't work because it's a dotnet application.
This software works quite well:

Oh, interesting, didn't know wine couldn't do .NET stuff. I don't have a lot of that stuff going on, I generally run linux stuff on linux.

***EDIT***
nope, still no go, it runs, but won't accept connections. Bah well, whatever. I do have an RTR server that went up without a fight. The mono tools are working though, since I wrote a little test program and compiled it, and the exe runs under mono just fine.
