Hmmm, I will say my experience of user created cyoa style stuff is not good, mainly it was with sites like chooseyourstory.com, where as you said you either go off the top ten list or get lost in a lot of very adolescent, half finished rambles.

usually what I look to for that sort of thing these days are sites with a deal more control, eg the fighting fantasy project, chronicles of arborell, or choiceofgames.
Indeed you might consider writing for choiceofgames yourself, it'd be a h good way to   reach several platforms.

As to relationships, ours is sort of one of the unbelievable ones, especially because it continues that way. If I went through  all the history it really would! sound like a bad romance novel, but the fact that it worked out where it is is is simply   astounding.

chyoa.com is more good than not.  I feel that I'm a fairly average writer among the regulars over there if that helps.  I actually have five stories I've started over there (Inheritance is one of them, so that's an easier format if you're just looking to enjoy the intro outside of the game format) and I've contributed to about that many more stories as well.

chooseyourstory.com & choiceofgames.  I tend to only write erotica, and I actively avoid contributing to places that are not specifically "adult" sites unless I have been given permission to do so or been invited in some way on the grounds that I prefer to avoid offending people when possible (For example, I'd have never thought to post on this site if someone hadn't posted on my behalf, taking that as invitation, I've been hanging out ever sense.  wink  In the case of your site, I'm not seeing any specifically "adult" content, so I'd be cautious about posting there.  In my experience sites are either welcoming of such content, of they react VERY badly to its presence.  Always looking for new places to post my projects, but never at the cost of pissing off the locals.  tongue

Hmmm, I checked Chyoa.com and maybe I saw the wrong stories but what I saw wasn't astounding, since the best thing I  kept leading to unfinished branches and other stuff just seemed more like excuses to be extreme as opposed to decent stories with an erotic element.

i think though people might be more accepting of erotica in the right way, especially following the popularity of game of thrones, which is an awesome story and! extremely earthy in parts.
Actually there is one erotic scene in Game of thrones which I really want to reread since I suspect my feelings about it now would be %100 different as opposed to when i read the books in 14 when even the word sex made me tense up.

That is the scene when Samwell Tarli and gilly make love, which includes a description Sam sucking on Gilly's breast after she's just nursed a baby. At the time I was mildly disgusted, and yet I suspect now, given both are people you really like whom you want! to see together, the circumstances they're in are really dire and they're trying to make the best of things, and Martin's prose about that scene makes it clear that it's actually something quite beautiful, my feelings would be utterly different.

Actually even in WoT, that is one reason  lady and I both agree if Rand had a wife it was Min, since that is the one relationship where Jordan doesn't indulge in his usual constant bouts of mistrust and bitching, and so the scene where that relationship is realized is probably the nicest love scene Jordan ever wrote.

With those kinds of sites, you're always going to have a mix of quality work and smut.  That's the nature of anything "Adult"  You've always got some people who just want to write porn, and you've always got some people who want to tell a story with porn in it.  I'd like to think I call into the second grouping, . . .

Some stories I've enjoyed from the site include 48 Hours as a girl (I thought the "Halo" branch was particularly fun.), Lisa (I contributed to that one.  Its a shame that the original author seems to have abandoned it.), Risky (Like that one, but then again it plays heavily on one of my fetishes, . . . so I may be a touch biased there.), The Virgin Heroine, are all good stories to start with.  And if you're interested in my work specifically, you can find it here: https://chyoa.com/user/GateKeeper_A

You're right, Game of Thrones has helped push that kind of content into the mainstream.  (I've always been a bit disappointed by the show, but then I started with the books, and that sets some pretty high expectations.)  I think with this kind of writing, its important that the story comes first and foremost.  If you took all the nudity/sex out of Game of Thrones, you'd still got a well written fantasy story.  My favorite bit of feedback I've ever received (Have received a few variations of this, but it makes me proud every time I see it) is "Came for the porn, stayed for the story."

When I said "game of thrones" I meant the books rather than the tv series. I've seen the series up to season 4, (I need to sit down and do the rest, but I've read all the books including the dunk and egg stories and world of ice and fire, and am looking forward to the next one.
it's actually a series my lady and I argue about quite a bit, since she finds martin excessively dark and gratuitous in how he kills characters and has generally depressing stuff happen, I find that level of dark okay, (actually in WoT I was wishing Jordan would! Kill off some characters in the later books just to thin down the ranks of people I really didn’t care about so I could concentrate on the people I did).

I’ll check the stories you mention on Chyoa, I did play through a little of 48 hours as a girl but wasn’t sure where it was going.

I’m afraid that the word p o r n is filtered on the site to discourage posting by spambots, actually I think this is probably the first time the word has been used in a serious conversation not! About spambots, though since we now have the restricted account registration system I can probably remove that filter.

We don’t actually have swear filters on this site, since it was decided earlier on that attitudes are more important than language, aside from the fact that this is a very multinational forum anyway so lots of words which are swear words in one part of the world are not in another, ---- e.g., to me in the UK a Fag is a cigarette or an old fashioned word for a servant boy at an upper class boarding school, and a faggot is either a bundle of sticks to put on a fire or a rather nice meatball dish similar to a haggis, I want to get my lady some so she can horrify all her relatives by telling them she ate faggots for tea big_smile.

By the same token however, “fanny” over here is a very crude term for a woman’s genitals on the same level as “cunt” I was quite surprised when I found out in the states it’s a comparatively childish or harmless word for the buttocks, similar to “Bum” over here, which equally does not mean lazy or homeless person big_smile.

[wow] language is fun!

Oh and btw,  if you want to do general chat type stuff, you know your quite welcome to post anywhere on the forum, including n the offtopic room where we often do general chat type stuff (we have a regular monthly chat topic).

Sorry it took so long to reply.  Had a pretty bad computer crash that I've been dealing with the last few days, just now getting back to a state resembling "normal."

I own the first four seasons of GoT, but I've only watched the first two so far.  They are good, just not as good as the books.  I think I'll probably wait until I can find the rest of the series (I'm cheap, I buy most everything second hand.  Just have to find some pawn shop selling the rest of the series for almost nothing.  tongue

I think that the darkness of GoT is part of its appeal.  So much of what is presented on TV has a soft edge to it, like they're afraid they're going to hurt the feelings of the viewer.  GoT in contrast is harsh and for those who have not read the books, unpredictable.  I think that's why The Walking Dead is so popular as well.

I agree with your assessment of the WoT.  The cast got large enough toward the end that it felt unwieldy at times.  It's an incredible work, but I think if they had tried expanding the cast of "important" characters much more, it would have started to loose its appeal.

Never even thought of that as a word to be censored.  tongue  I agree with the logic, words are just that, words.  Its the mindset and attitude behind them that define them.  And I always find it interesting to see what is a swear word in one part of the world is just part of normal conversation in another, or vice versa.  Its a strange, and often entertaining, world that we live in!

I thank you for the offer.  I tend to stick to my own threads most of the time, partly because I prefer to avoid stepping on toes, and partially because I simply stay fairly busy.  I'll make a point of checking out your monthly topic later though!

Its been a very long road these last three years (Actually, its been a little more than that now) and it has been a true joy to have all of you along for the journey.

Wanton Cove started with a simple conversation. I asked what people would like to see for a game from me, and an erotic horror game came up in conversation. At the time, I thought to myself, "Eh, why not?" and in the coming days the setting took form and increasingly became an obsession that demanded its tale be told. What I bring to all of you today is not the end, but AN end. Wanton Cove was never intended to be a single linear story, it was intended to be a tangled web of intrigue. The ending(s) presented in this release are the conclusion to the primary story through the game, but there are still other mysteries to explore in this setting, and today we mark a significant milestone in a longer road.

Thank you to each and every one of you. For your support, your encouragement, your bug reports, and everything else. The Allure of Wanton Cove would not be what it is today without all of you.

I sincerely hope that you all stick around as we begin to explore some of the other mysteries in Wanton Cove, . . .

"You're a washed up ex-detective, living your life one bottle at a time when your old partner and estranged friend comes knocking. His son has gone missing, the police wont pursue the case, and he's run out of leads, so he comes looking to call in an old favor.

You hear him out, even if you have no intention of helping him out. But then he offers you the only clue he has to the whereabouts of his son. A hand written letter with a return address of Wanton Cove, the very name of which dregs up memories of the last horrible case you worked, a case that was never solved."

Congrats on getting wanton cove finished, or at least getting to an ending anyway, it makes me want to give the game another try, albeit after a heavy does of CoC I want a miner change from adult stuff for a bit (hence why I'm playing Warsim at the moment).

i've actually been quite busy myself, albeit most of what I've been busy with has been working for this site, hanging out with mrs. Dark and reading big_smile.

What is amusing with this forum filters wise is that at the beginning there were quite a few filters on language.
it ended up starting to change when we had a discussion about the old desert strike series and it was a bit odd talking about bellfire missiles big_smile.
When I started as admin I removed all of the swear words from the filters, though left some of the anti spam ones, though i've occasionally had to remove those if they come up in conversation too.

On this forum generally the idea is that it's the intend that matters not the language. So calling someone a stupid idiot with intent to be insulting will get you in trouble with the mods, while   saying that your fucking computer is on the blink again will not big_smile.

Thank you.  Its very satisfying to know that the core story is now complete (Though I've been talking with a lot of fans the last few days, and I may add a couple more endings that aren't quite so dark to the primary ending.) and that we can begin to write some of the side stories I've wanted to tell in the setting.

Completely understand the desire to take a break from "Adult" content.  Some people have an aversion to it, some people are perverts who enjoy a steady diet of it (I probably fall into that second group) and most well adjusted people enjoy it in moderation.  wink  No worries, you'll get to it when you are ready.

Language filters are something I think largely depend on the community.  Places where the people are friendly and hold meaningful conversations, it tends to self regulate.  In other places you see a bunch of people acting like juveniles, and in those cases it is something a necessary evil.  Its about the maturity of the people involved.  Or at least that's the way I see it.

I think you have a good way of handling the language on this site.  If something comes up in conversation, is handled with respect and not intended to be hurtful, its fine.  If its intended to be disruptive or harmful to other people, then its not.

And no discussion of what words are correct is right without a reference to This song big_smile.

With erotic stuff, the issue for me is that up until quite recently I was extremely genophobic. It wasn't a religious thing, just extreme discomfort and indeed panic, that is one reason I'm investigating such things as CoC and flexible  and indeed Wanton cove at the second to work out what is and isn't okay, what I do and don't like etc.

I'll certainly get to wanton cove in time since I do enjoy a good horror.

Monty Python is solid gold, I grew up on their stuff and loved every minute of it.

Nothing wrong with that.  We all have different comfort levels.  The important thing is that we find the things we enjoy and share those things with the like minded people that we love.  I have a friend who jokes, "So long as everyone has fun, and no one ends up in the emergency room, its all good."

The Allure of Wanton Cove is a dark tale of horror in the vein of HP Lovecraft and drawing from the same mythos.

You take on the part of a washed up former detective who could never let go of the last terrible case he worked.  Content to drink himself to death, his former partner comes knocking, begging for help.  Help he is loath to give, but when offered a tantalizing clue that could finally unravel the case that plagues his every waking thought, he accepts, having no idea that the truth he will find is infinitely more terrible than what already haunts him.

Changelog 1.01

-Wrote new path in the primary ending of the game for male characters.  Requires you to have been intimate with Azumi.

-Added a shortcut to sex scenes in the Cheat Menu.  I'm sure I missed a few, but the bulk of that content should be there.  If you see something I missed, be sure to let me know and I'll get it added to the game.

-Fixed a bug where you were not recognizing Mr Morichi at the start of the endgame.

-Fixed a bug where you and Azumi were not recognizing each other through the window of her room.

-Closed Tom inquiries after you learn his fate. (Sounds like a couple of things are still flapping in the breeze, still need to make another pass related to her content to shut off the rest of it.)

-Wrote one small ambient scene for the Barmaid's Daughter that triggers after you loose the old book.

-New scene in the Park for those who have found the old leather bound tome.

-Added two new NPCs to the bad part of town (You meet them together.)

-Added one new piece of completed art to the game.

-Updated the "People" area of "Case Notes" to include the Lebron sisters.

-Added New Game Plus option and added Happy Ending through that.

-Did a minor rewrite for Dewey Anne's content.

-Fixed several reported bugs and spelling errors.

-Added about 7k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 340k words of content.

You mean the paper doll system?  The paper doll system is something I plan to use with several projects, however Wanton Cove is now one of those projects.  Also, all of my writing is done in a way that I feel is complete without any need for art.  Art is added to supplement the writing, not to replace any of it.

If that is what you meant?
