Hi all,

It's late so I'm going to be brief. Adult text adventure, interesting narrative being a detective, and different writing style, that of first-person rather than the common third-person for these types of games.

I took this for a spin, and unfortunately found an issue right away.

The game wants me to enable javascript to continue - it's coded in HTML, and that's fine - and I know because I checked three different times that javascript is enabled. Game still won't go beyond that first screen. So, uh, I don't get it.

Saw that I was getting a bit of traffic from this site (And I must say, being my first time visiting, this seems to be a very nice site.  10/10, will be lurking.  wink ) and figured I had better swing through and take a look.

Lets start with introductions.  My user name here is ashaman, but most of the adult gaming community knows me as the GateKeeper.  I've been responsible for several projects in the past, but what drew me here was my current project, "The Allure of Wanton Cove."

The game is an erotic horror set within the Cthulhu Mythos.  You take on the part of a washed up ex-detective.  After your career fell apart in the wake of a terrible case you were never able to solve, your former partner comes to you for help when his son goes missing.  You're reluctant until you discover that the disappearance is very likely tied to that case  you were never able to let go of.

That's strange.  I regularly test on both Firefox and IE, and the game gets sent out to a few other people who test the game as well.  Any chance you could tell me which browser you are trying to run the game on?  If I can learn a bit more, I'll send out a message to a couple of coders I know to see if they might know what's going on.  (No promises they will have a solution, but you never know until you try.)

V.91a is up.

Patreon Version:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/14168787

Public Version:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/14168923

The following fixes should be in place in this build:

-Variant of Cobb's scene on the main street through Wanton Cove for players who had not previously spoken with him did not have a link to progress further in the story.  This has been fixed.
-Error that was triggering in the good part of town was related to the new Lady Anne content/  Lady Anne's intro and followup scenes have been completely rebuilt as a random event.  (About 1/8 chance of triggering if a random event plays out in that area.)  I plan to add the ability to visit her normally in the next major build of the game.

Got a new version available if anyone around here is interested.

Changelog .92

-Updated "Special Thanks" passage with new Patrons at appropriate levels. 9/9/17

-One of Tanya's sex scenes now has art. See, art that's not associated with an ending! More art will appear in upcoming releases.

-Rebuilt Lady Anne's intro and wrote three variants of the willing entry scene.

-Added new dialogue for Lady Anne.

-Added a new story driven scene that should play out on the 7th morning.

-Added new dialogue for Tanya after 7th morning scene.

-Added about 3k words of content to the game. At the same time, I sent through and streamlined a bit of content, trimming some redundant content from the game that probably cut us by about 1k words as well. This brings the game's total size up to around 273k words.

[wow], glad to see this grow. Keep us posted, the changes are deffenately interesting as well as new additions Content whise. BTW: are more than just one author contributing Content to the game wich will be expanded constantly, like in flexible survival or is there one author or one Team of authors to Keep the Story in line? Or will there be even more than one story in the game? [wow], so many words? That's huge already. Keep it up.

I promise a single update once a month, with 3k words of content.  In reality, I usually manage a new update closer to every 2 weeks with more like +5k words of content.  Last December the game was a bit shy of 100k words of content, so I guess its averaged about 17k words of growth a month. (10 months, 175k words of growth (Give or take), not perfect math, but its in the ballpark.   wink )

While I have another project in the works that I'm trying to put a group of contributors together for (For example, just hired three artists for the game, who will be working for a percentage of any Patreon earnings.  In other words, the better the project does, the better they do.  Also been talking about the possibility of hiring one or two writers for that one as well.) Wanton Cove is a game that I started alone, and right or wrong, I kind of made up my mind that I was going to work on it solo until at least the main narrative is complete.  So in answer to your question, its just me handling all of the writing and most of the coding.  I have a couple of friends who help out with some of the more complicated code, and I have started commissioning art for the game out of the Patreon earnings in the last few months.

The word count is partially the size of the game, after three years of development, its getting pretty big, but also it has to do with the skill checks in the game.  There are a LOT of scenes in the game that can play out more than one way depending on your character's stats, and the last time I poked around the code to look (Its been a while, so it may be more than this now) I estimated that you'd have to play the game's content about eight times in order to see everything the game has to offer.  Granted, probably 2/3 of all the content is available in a single play through assuming you know where to look for everything.

Thank you for the message, I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the game so far!  I'll keep making it so long as people still enjoy it!

Man, you have my full respect for all the work you put in. And I think, the bigger the game will get, the longer it will be entertaining. I realy like big games, but I never thought that this game is so Long in development already and that it has so many books of Content in it, word Count whise. Cool Thing.

I used to really enjoy writing as a kid, so when I hurt my back a few years back its one of the things I started doing to pass the time while I learned how to walk again (Literally, spent about three years unable to walk without something to hold on to, and about seven years later I still don't move the way I should.  tongue ).  I did a lot of online roleplay, then shifted to doing a little writing on this site and elsewhere.  Eventually I discovered the game making program I use to make my games and started playing around with that.  The rest of the story is what you see.  The Allure of Wanton Cove is my most popular project to date, but I've also got a completed project behind me named The Puppet Master, a project that has been largely abandoned named Futa Apocalypse (It was the first project I tried to present in game format.  Not knowing anything about making games at the time, I didn't have things organized well at all and it became very difficult to work on.  I hope to some day return to the setting and do it right.), I've been working on one called Inheritance since around new years that has about 50k words of content written for it that I'm trying to get to a playable state, plus a couple of other things on the back burner.

I stay busy.  wink

If you're interested in my other work:

Futa Apocalypse (Think horny shemale zombies.  Unlike my story driven content above, this was for fapping.  Tried breaking it down into its component stories towards the end, but the code and formatting was too much of a  mess to make it easy to work with.  Currently abandoned.)

Ashaman, if you don't mind me asking, what program do you use to write your games? Is it Twine?

And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

On a side note, working through some bug reports right now and hope to have a fix up later today.

So I have heard!

I use the system because its somewhat easy to learn the basics, there is a lot of information about the program available to help you learn, and best of all there is a great community of people who both know the system well but are willing to help if you have troubles with something.

Progress report for those curious about how the next build is coming along:

Got a lot done on this over the last couple of days. Added some new story driven content, as well as some new naughtyness.  REALLY happy with the progress made today.  I just put up a test build for that level Patreons over there.  For everyone else, I should have a new build of the game up to the public in about a week.  Goal is to release late on the 27th, then have any reported bugs resolved by the 29th before jumping into the next build.

Game progression is coming along very nicely.  We're down to nine more major plot driven scenes to resolve the main narrative.  Goal will be to have that all taken care of over the next 5-6 builds.

Once the main narrative of the game is done though, there's still a LOT to do.  Some time in the next few weeks, I plan to create a Patreon only poll concerning some of the side stories in the game (Who was the body on the shore?  What REALLY happened to the pastor?  Who were the original inhabitants of Wanton Cove?  What drew Tom to Wanton Cove in the first place?  What happened to Mr Jackobson?  And more!) to decide which side stories people would like to see explored first.  I know I have my preferences on which stories to explore in which order, but I confess that I'm excited to see which stories are most important to the players!

New version of the game is up for anyone who is interested.  I opted to include a sample of the writing within the game just to give people a little taste of what you can expect within the game and hopefully coax a few more of you to actually download the game to take a look.

Enjoy!

Excerpt:

""
Captain Steiner meets my eyes.  He's clearly rattled by whatever is in the alley, "Hope you have a stronger stomach than the rest of us."  His tone is distant, like he's disassociating himself from whatever they found.

"Show me the way,"  I say. I can already smell the coppery scent of blood on the air.

Captain Steiner nods, then waves for me to follow.

The alley is dark, and narrow, not quite wide enough to drive an automobile down.  The only light I can see down the damp corridor between the two warehouses is coming from a couple of flashlights a short distance ahead.

Without really thinking about it, I pull my flashlight and thumb it on, lighting the way.

When I see a hint of blood lazily running from down the alley, pooling in a puddle a couple of paces ahead, I make a point of stepping around it.

"Must be a lot of blood?"  I make it half question, half statement.  Captain Steiner turns his head to meet my eyes.  I'd swear that he's three shades lighter than when we entered the alley.  He doesn't say anything as he continues towards the crime scene.

As we near the crime scene, the blood on the ground has become so abundant that it's impossible not to step in it as we approach. //Just how many victims are there?//

I begin to slow, an uneasy feeling settling over me, as if my skin doesn't fit quite right.  My eyes travel towards where the other officer's flashlights are pointed.

There are strange symbols, painted in broad red swaths of color along the walls.  It takes me a few seconds to realize that it's blood.

I don't know how long I stood there, looking at the symbols, but I became aware of Captain Steiner looking at me expectantly, as if anticipating me saying something.

I take a deep breath and force myself to direct my flashlight to the one place that everyone seems to be avoiding looking, the middle of the alley between the two murals of blood.

For several heartbeats, it's as if my mind can't quite acknowledge what I'm looking at.

Laying in the middle of a small sea of blood is a porcelain white body, an almost startling contrast with the crimson that surrounds it.

Watching where I step, my heart roaring in my ears, I move slowly closer to the scene.

It quickly becomes obvious that this is no ordinary body.  Some distant part of my mind tells me that I'm looking at multiple victims, a patchwork of body parts all sewn together to create this horrible, beautiful, abomination before me.

I fight down the bile at the back of my throat and force myself to //really// look at the body.  It looks like most of the victims were female, possibly with a single male victim.

This is a game that takes place within the Cthulhu Mythos.  There are elements in this story which are not appropriate for children.  Some of the content is erotic, or even spam in nature, though much of it is avoidable within the game if you watch for it.

Anyone interested in trying the game out, feel free to download the free version of the game.  If you like it and are able, you're welcome to pledge a little something if you want to show a little extra support.  Patrons gain access to a Cheat Menu within the game that allows you to adjust character stats, as well as Patreon only polls.

Hi Ashaman.
Thanks for the new update I'm very excited to try the new stuff. You are a great storyteller, this game scared me to death, and it's very hard to scare me lol! I'm guessing from your username on here that your a wheel of time fan? Me too! I'm very excited to see this game grow and get more scary.
Btw, I included your game in a forum news post, to hopefully get a few more people interested. If you'd like to see the post go here . I like to encourage developers, especially ones like you who are nice enough to make your games accessible.

I'm happy to hear that you're looking forward to playing the update.  I hope it lives up to your expectations!

Why yes I am!  The series was referred to me by a friend around the time the second one in the series came out, have been hooked ever sense.  It was a real shame when Jordan passed away, but I was thrilled when I learned that he had laid the ground work for someone else to finish it.  An incredible fantasy series and one of the epics of our time.  Its been a long time since someone caught that reference (Or at least that commented on it.)

Thank you for adding my little game to the news on the site, I'm flattered that you think so highly of it!

Honestly, I was really surprised to see one of my projects pop up on a non-adult site.  I usually avoid posting to places like this for fear of offending someone.  Its been really nice seeing how well received the game has been over here (And I can see through my Patreon page that this site IS generating a fair number of hits, so its not just people looking at the thread here and moving on either.)  So long as me and my project are welcome here, I'll be more than happy to share new updates with this community!

Take a look at the sidebar in the game.  Under the Character Details and all the other information in the sidebar, you'll see a button for "Save" and "Restart."  Save will give you the option to save the game, and Restart will basically restart the game..

Hope that helps!
