Hi everyone!
So I'm not sure how many of you were curious about how it was that the Windows sounds were created. So I did a bit of research and found some interesting information.
The first YouTube video is from the Windows 95 start-up sound, which has been slowed down 23 times of its original length. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNIfbdi41ho You can read the video's description to learn about how it was composed.
The sounds for windows 98 and 2000 are similar, and more information about that can be found here. http://mashable.com/2012/10/24/windows- … Kn1KM9ysq3
Windows XP used something a little more interesting. They actually used an orchestra to make the majority of the Windows sounds in XP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGKwx-BFO0E This is not exactly how it sounds, but it does have some similarities.
Finally, Windows vista and Windows 7 used the sounds you'll hear in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nle84et7bWg
If you guys wanna add something, or some ideas, feel free to add to this topic. I was thinking of using Edirol Orchestral to recreate some of these Windows sounds and see how close I can get. tongue
Happy playing!
HH

OH wow, that last one was really interesting. Was that used in promotional materials or something?

Which last one? If you're talking about the Windows XP theme song, I think it was the sound used in the Windows XP tour.

Yes, I know that when it was my first time using the computer. I think that this version was the start of a new experience and was an experience for me to use computers. Also, It was my first windows version I've ever used, and my first operating system ever used.
Sadly it's ded, but I have it in my experienced hart, so I can live a more experienced live.

What a coincidence! Windows XP was the first operating system I really worked with. In fact, the first time I used a computer was in 2001 or 2002, and even I don't remember what operating system I was using. Probably 98 or 2000. But I got my own computer back in 2007 for the first time. I remember one of the things I did one night was look under the sound schemes. I memorised where Windows kept all of its sounds.

What a coincidence!
3 of us used Windows xp when we were kids around the computer, searching for more interesting stuff.

We don't know who made, or compoced, many startup windows prototypes out there. That windows vista soundscapes made me go to a newer generation! Well, I know a little of produsing ETC, but Ill have to wait.. If I will construct a soundscape if I construct a new OS by me...

I know! I have the full recordings of the drones and the mishmash of feeling like you're in a far off land. :-)

I actually took one of these Windows sounds and used Studio Recorder to make several copies of the same file with different pitches, and then I copied and pasted it to come up with something new! http://www.sensation-experience.com/ding.mp3

mmm, and so times and things have dramatically changed. here is the official windows 10 theme song for one. Do you remember all of the other extra packs that came in windows 2000 I think? the microsoft plus! ones are really really interesting and there are sounds I had never heard of after using computers for a very very long time, and I was one of those curious ones with the schemes and bundled sounds, too.

A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

Windows98 also came with some cool packs.

2018-07-27 23:34:46

I will say I wish there were more packs available in windows 10, and it's sad to find o way to create schemes other than adding one sound at a time. A scheme sharing service would be amazing...

It's really weird too, by default Windows 10 has folders under c:\windows\media that seem like they may have been placeholders for sound schemes.

Oh no! Somebody released the h key! Everybody run and hide!

if you wish, you can get the ones from windows 7 back (by running these registry hacks, of course there is one to back up your sound schemes first) but, before you do, you can  download every single pack ever created here
there is stuff there i had never heard before. pretty cool.

Annoying to have to save those schemes manually... wish there was a way to just import completed schemes. Would make my windows sound scape so much better...

run the registry hacks, it will make them appear automagically .. the ones from win 7 anyway

Here it is.

Let me know if it works. Just make sure to run it as admin to be safe, though i'm certain it shouldn't have any problems. Only tried it on windows 10 though.

No, I actually found it on a reddit post.

What you posted appears to be a bunch of sound schemes from windows 9x and 2k for use in XP.

Oh god still reviving this musical nostalgia?
I did heard the information I almost wanted to do a youtube/lbry audio/video about those sounds, I' mean, getting on the musical way of Windows. Changing topic but also other OSes?
