Hello and welcome to Accessible Craft server thread!

Outside of Spawn

Main features of the server and pack are but not limited to...
As accessible as possible! This is possible thanks to mods such as Access Tweaks and Durability Viewer!

Blockling

Fine tuned game mechanics to lessen much frustrations. After all who's having fun dying just get some fallen wood logs right? Well not anymore! Thanks to mods like Auto Pickup you can worry less about totally losing it and more about what just will you do with ALL of the materials you got in your inventory!

Cool in game chat to chat all in one place! Check it out below!

Making the game as accessible as possible also means being able to withstand limited computing resources. That is why this pack is low hardware demanding! As long as you have around 1.5GB of free RAM and Java JRE 8 installed you should be well ready to go at playable settings!

Operational on ANY PC platform. From Windows, Mac, and even Linux MultiMC got you taken cared of!

@MineFriendly,
Accessibility, in this case, actually means playable by any user regardless of the user's ability, inability or disability as the result of whatever condition.  Since we all play based on audio cues and hints, usually those conditions are all related to blindness and vision impairments.  What you did not clarify is if your game is accessible to audiogamers based on this criteria.  It really wouldn't matter what the specks on our computers are if your game does not somehow give us information based on sound or text accessible to ssscreen reading software or via TTS.

When life gives you oranges, demand lemons since everyone else is obviously getting them.

Hello mine friendly.
this forum is a place to discuss games accessible to blind people.
While the idea of a visually impared accessible version of minecraft is a great one, given your first post is full of images and you mention "screenshots" and the like I do rather wonder how "accessible" this is in the sense this forum means it., i.e if you turned the screen off entirely and played without graphics just using the sound from your speakers and any screen reading programs would this mod let you you play the  game as easily as a sighted person could? or indeed at all.

Any further information and a little explanation would be great.

To everyone else, might I suggest we wait on innocent until proven spammy. while it is true we've had spammbots advertising world of Warcraft and other graphical mmorpgs in the past, if this is indeed a way to play minecraft accessibly that would be a good thing indeed.

This is a follow up post for the MineFriendly's minecraft server.  MineFriendly is a low vision deafblind user who is trying to make the game of minecraft more accessible to all.  I am attempting to post the links to everything here without th
e images.  He is working very hard and wants others to have access to the game.  We figured there may be someone on this forum who would be interested.

How to get the mod pack and join the server!

Step 1 Firstly make sure that your system is running Java JRE 8 as 7 (or
below) won't work! So get the Java JRE 8 version if your system isn't
running it! If you need help with this step and/or getting it installed
let me know and I will do my best to help you get Java JRE 8 running for
you.

https://s3.postimg.org/e4e45q0k3/Screen … -15-26.png

In this image it showing that Java 8 is installed on my system.

Step 2 Once that is done go ahead and grab
https://multimc.org/#Download
& Install. As advertised it works with just about any PC OS from the
standard Windows to Mac OS, to even Linux!

https://s4.postimg.org/i1zz33jal/Screen … -19-18.png

In this image is where the link will take you to download the launcher.

Step 3 Once it is installed you will want to allocate the RAM to 768MB
(or more) min and 1.5GB max (or more but don't be giving the game more
than 4GB or else your CPU won't like it! Unless your running HEAVILY
shaders or some other intensive textures.) Make sure that also the Java
version is correct (it should read 1.8.xxx) as well as the file path.
Usually the game works best if you directly point it to the ~/jre/...
file path. All of this can be done on the Java section of this launcher.

https://s10.postimg.org/rrmqnq99l/Scree … -22-47.png

In this image is just showing what minimally you should end up with
(Permgen is not used at ALL for Java 8+ so you can safety ignore it or
just set it to 64MB like I did). File path may vary from OS to OS but
just be sure that it pointed at the ~/jre/... directory/folder and you
should be good to go!

Step 4 Add your user account (top right hand side and click "add")

https://s22.postimg.org/ucyvn0jk1/Scree … -28-59.png

The text displayed on that screen says just click "add" (even if there
no accounts there) and fill in your login details.

Step 5 Finally import the pack which can be downloaded at
https://f001.backblazeb2.com/file/Instances/Accessible
Craft.zip by
following the instructions on the MultiMC's launcher.

https://s1.postimg.org/twa8b8nv3/Screen … -33-01.png

Importing is simple really. Just click on the "paper" on your far left
of the top screen and click the "Import Modpack". You may download it
directly by providing it the link (the download link) or simply looking
it in your system once you downloaded it yourself!

Step 6 Click launch on the imported instance and you are ready to play!
https://s21.postimg.org/piq6nvyk7/Scree … -37-25.png

Click on the instance (the first one if your just playing this pack) and
then simply click launch. You will presented with a standard main menu.
Plus the "Last Server Joiner" mod's button. Once you join the server as
usual (Multiplayer screen) at least once you will be able to use this
button to connect to it again!

7. Server should already comes shipped but failing that the server IP is
accessiblecraft.mcnode.net

If your needing any help doing ANY of these steps let me know and I will
do my best to help you get your game going!

Thank you for your inquiry ammericandad2005

We are only focused on accessibly as in legitimate means. Thus meaning the server is always on "online" mode.

Hello, this is Minefriendly again

We currently don't have a website for the game so it only meant to be used as the connecting IP address.

It is entered as in the Multiplayer screen when you are ready to play.

If you or anyone else need help connecting just let me know and I will be more than happy to help as much as I can.

Hmm, wow... So, is this really accessible to blind gamers? An audio review on how this works would be fantastic. I have no idea on how to get started, and I have no experience with mindcraft.

I'm in the same position as Slj here, all I know about minecraft is that it is 3d, and graphical and you mine blocks and build things as if you were using lego bricks big_smile.

I think there are some rpg features with quests and stuff as well, but again I really don't know much about the game so a bit of explanation about Minecraft generally and this accessible server in particular might be very helpful.

heck, I actually deleted minecraft off this computer when I got it since as a heavily graphical game I didn't think it'd be something I particularly needed big_smile.

SLJ thank you very much for providing me the welcoming to this community.

Regarding the accessibly aspects. Relative to the industry standards of Minecraft servers our server is indeed more accessible compared to nearly all servers in the Minecraft gaming community.

Our accessibly features specific to the blind community includes features such as allowing the graphics to be easier to see (such as being bright in game at all time without impacting mob spawns for example), custom in game indicator of tools and armor durability, and bearing more audio input from the game.

So to put it shortly currently it accessible to those who may have difficulties seeing in game like myself. I for one can have much easier time looking at how much durability my gears have and being able to see the in game graphics far easier.

We do plan down the road however improving the accessibly of the game so that as many people as possible will be able to play this game to it's fullest.

However before we are able to do this we need to establish a foundation. So my friend Jake4252 recommended I seek out here for people who may have residual vision to start assembling such a foundation.

Does this help everyone understand where we are at and where we intend to take this?

Niklas wrote:

Of course! Simply follow all of the steps except the final step which explains how to join the server.

Hmmm, I am not sure how many people hear have enough residual vision to help with the project at this stage in development.

I for  example cannot read text at all and use a screen reader, and while I can play 16 bit style 2d games like platformers (I still love my Snes), generally speaking full 3D games are out for me since visually speaking the special relations are too complex even if I can see where the in game objects are on screen. Similarly, I do not use a mouse on the computer and would find using a pointer difficult I think. indeed one thing I like about 16 bit era games is the use of highlighted menus rather than a mouse pointer meaning I either see the menu highlighting to change game options or count key presses.

If you let us know a little more about minecraft generally perhaps we'd be in a better position to say whether we can help here.

Hello, this is Minefriendly again

I very much understanding where your coming from regarding your difficulties playing these types of game.

While for example the game options and main menus are actually quite fitting what your saying (highlighting what your hovering over before you actually have to click it). I could indeed see you unfortunately having difficulties still especially within the in game chat tab and inventories.

As for the game play itself, it is in the genre of a sandbox game play. Meaning in this game you pretty much survive in the game however you wish with some in game conditions you have to be aware of. For example sheltering up to keep the mobs from coming after you and such.

Beyond typical Minecraft survival this mod pack extends this by allowing players to create machines for processing and such.

Again I fully understand that the game is some what away from being "100% accessible" but everyone has to start somewhere right?

2017-07-18 16:27:07

Well since I actually cannot read the text I don't think the game would be doable for me, quite aside from the 3D issue.  if you ever include tts for options and objects please let me know, though it is also possible the graphics are too 3D for me.

Btw I'm afraid since this site is after all Audio! games.net I will move this topic out of new releases for now.

I even heared of user created add ons for example new blocks and adventure maps and such. Since I am fully blind, a way to include a screen reader option or speech in general would be neccessary. But if this game could be made playable for blind people as well, a dream would come true. But sounds and speech are most important for me to use the game, or even output to a braille display.

Hello, it me Minefriendly

You are absolutely correct Niklas, this server even have some of such mods. That adds more blocks and even machines in the game.

I also completely understand these requirements. Along the lines of screen reading, TTS, and such will be included once we reach that end goal.

For us to reach those said end goals however we are currently trying to establish our foundation. This way we can acquire the much needed support and resources we will require to develop such features. As well but not limited to operating and maintaining such features.

While we all know that nothing is guaranteed except taxes and kicking the bucket in life. We will do all we can our power to make this a reality for you as well as everyone else who is seeking to play this game. smile

As always we appreciate any sort of feed back and support we can get. smile

that sounds amazing. At the moment, i am not able to play the game it seems. But if I can i am more than willing to help and participate. Just tell me what I can do. The only thing I cannot do is programming. I am more the single player type, I personally don't like multiplayer, but even in single player and if custom add ons will be supported, this game has still lots of content for me to explore I think. So if I can do something, let me know.

2017-07-18 21:33:39

Hi.
It's quite difficult to give any feedback or advice when we don't know what the gameplay is like. However, it's so great to hear that you wanna work on something to make it more playable or accessible.
So, would you mind making a detailed gameplay by sound and speech, where you explain what's going on, what you're doing and how the game works? Then, I think we might be able to give some more feedback. If you're not able to do that, then I'm afraid we are unable to give you much feedback on how to make it accessible.
We could easily look up some gameplays on Youtube. But, since we all are blind, we need the detailed descriptions on what's going on and how the gameplay works. If we are watching gameplays with random comments which only comments on the game but not describing what's going on, we don't get much out of it.
So, if just doing an audio recording instead of both video and the sound recording, then the audio is most important for us, since most of us won't be able to see the video anyway.
I hope it makes sense. If you have any questions, then don't be afraid to ask...

Best regards SLJ.

SLJ you brought up some wonderful advice on how you wonderful people requires us to make the original game's details and how it played more accessible. Prior to being able to be provided with quality feed backs. In order to gather the feed backs we require in order to best adapt the game to everyone here requirements'.

I will see what we can do in order to have something like this created and released on this thread. In order to provide the accessibly required in order to move forward with gathering the feed backs.

I very much appreciate you explaining all of this to me in order to best understand what we need to adjust in order to better get this off the ground.

I also appreciate you willing to talk to me should I require some questions responded to regarding this. I will be sure to PM you should I require to.  smile

Thank again for everyone support so far and we will get going to getting rolling with what we are required to do as explained by our good member SLJ.

Hello. This seems pretty lagit. Tell me, what are you using for modding? Are you writing your own custom mods, or are these just mod packs for now. I've been trying to figure out a good way for writing Minecraft mods for altering the UI to be quite a bit more accessible, but I don't know where to find some means of accessible modding program. I'm glad to see this project going smoothly. It would be even better if we could come up with a good accessible UI framework in general to add onto other mods, such as the wonderful Ars Magicka mod. Well, That's enough rambling. I'll add a TL;DR.

TL;DR Any good modding tools, Preferably that might be just an API to work with in something like Eclipse? We should work on an accessible UI, and find a way to expand upon that later to work with other mods that add additional UIs.

I have a website now.

NVDA has an optional feature in which it plays a tone when the mouse moves, indicating both the cursor position and the brightness of the screen at that position. Something like that seems relatively straightforward to implement, if cross-platform speech is not. Just something to help identify what is under the cursor, possibly with decreased volume if it's further into the background, for example.
I'm glad someone is doing this, and I wish you the best of luck big_smile

It very nice that you wish to be a part of something like this!

Unfortunately due to the limited support and resources I had when I first deployed this setup I just complied a mod pack and tweaked the settings with the "off the shelf" mods that exists.

However if you would like to maybe work with us to help create such UIs and/or other required modding tasks we are more than welcome to chat with you to figure out how you can be involved in the modding process. Feel free to let me know if you would like to be a part of this and if so then we can do our best to getting your accessible modding program requirement met.
