The [Mariana Trench] is one of the deepest parts of the world, and is located south of Japan in the western Pacific Ocean. Scentists know very little about it, or what may be lurking within it. Last year researchers gathered some of the first recordings from Challenger Deep within the trench, some 36,000 feet deep and 16,000 psi of pressure, with a custom titanium encased hydrophone. Surprisingly the location seems to be quite the echo chamber, reverberating the sounds of ships, whales, typhoons on the surface, and earthquakes. those are some nice recordings. However, I do recall some nutjob telling me about an underwater civilisation of immortals down there a few years ago... smile I hope I'm not the only one who gets the refference and still remembers that! a real shame they discontinued it...
