***notice for the drama mongerers***. If you can, please avoid starting another flame war about ultrapower clones. If you remember shortly after the original desafio mortal skandal, mason and the mods allowed the use of ultrapower code in games. If you want to say that you don't like the game because its cloned and then say why its cloned, please just say your piece once and then forever be silent, for the other people on this forum who still like to play the game. Desafio mortal is operational, and you can actually download it. However, I am aware of rules surrounding this game, which means that I am unable to post any links. If you want to get a hold of the game, pm or email me, or email megadimensao at the following address.

thanks and I hope those who want to play this game enjoy it, and those who don't find something else to play!

Hi.
I think it's legal to post the link now, since Mason have given people permission to use the code and do what they want.

Thumbs up

it is legal to post games with ultrapower code, however the mods have speciffically forbidden the posting of links to download desafio mortal, if you look at the last few posts in the original desafio mortal topic you'll see.

Okay. I see...

Actually...

This all is still up in the air, because mason first gave permission to only DM to use UP's source code and he doesn't have a problem, which was misconstrued by sebby (wasn't his fault you'll see why in a sec) as mason allowing creation of stuff by UP source code.
Mason clarified later that no, it was just for  DM he was allowing this, later dithered, then sam came up saying The decision whether or not to allow DM to use UP's sourcecode wasn't just mason's alone it was his too, to which mason agreed and that's where we are at.
See what I mean lol

that doesn't completely criminalize dm however, because it is still allowed to use it.

They must have known what they were getting themselves in for when making the game using UP code. Maybe not that it would cause them trouble here on this forum, but that something not good would have come from it eventually.  I don't personally see why people can't code their own games without resorting to what, at the very least is using other people's code, huge portions of it, and at the most is theft of code. This is why we have publicly available classes anyone can import in case they lack the knowledge to work on a system or subsystem. Would I look at source to get an idea or ideas about how something might be done, yes, if I could have it available to me, but I wouldn't use that code in my game.

Anyway, the point is, I see games like this doing harm to future development and works from the community. I did play it briefly and did like it before the whole issue came about, then it went down for a while. I just see this as a possible morale issue, where other developers might say the hell with working on stuff if they see what people get away with as far as using other games' source code or parts of it. I for one would love to see better and better quality titles, I think we're just on the cusp of this, and that it will progress slowly from here, but hopefully steadily. I don't want people who have ideas and the knowledge, or the dream to learn to code so they can make games get discouraged because of events that take place on this forum. So if you play this game, just keep in mind that you might be doing more harm than good by supporting a developer who has no qualms about using other people's work. And if that doesn't hit home for you, think of a scenario like you had to write a 30 page essay for school or university, somehow someone got a hold of the paper in nearly complete, or complete form and posted it around campus on the sly. Now, say everyone started using that paper where it would fit into their course work, changing just enough to not arouse suspicion. Or, that the professors just let them do it, they knew good and well what was going on but they just allowed it to happen. You put hours and hours into that paper. Researching in the library, on the net, giving interviews and taking notes. You sorted those notes, composed an outline, wrote up a rough draft, edited and trimmed or filled in where needed. Took that draft, refined further. You now spent what, maybe 10 or more hours on this project, and people just ripped you off?

I'd suggest that people do not play this game, yeah I know, its not gonna happen, but nevertheless, think of how this could effect the future of audiogame development, that essentially, by playing the game, you're saying its OK for others to steel code, you support that. I'll give you this, the whole thing with ultrapower code being permissible or not is about at a stupid level right now. Someone needs to kick mason and sam's ass into coming out with a decisive statement whether this should be allowed to continue or not. This also gets into the realm of only work with peeps you trust, and don't replicate he same code in different projects.

Here's another angle on it. When you take what's there and only change what you want to make the game your own, what are you really learning? Each project is supposed to teach you something you can take with you into others, it is meant to teacch you to solve puzzles. I can tell you this from my very little code experience, but even so, whenever I do something and get it to work, I learned something from that experience that's valuable enough to use later.

Hello all.
For me the server is down and the site is ok.

I sent both of you the links. For some reason the main download link on the megadimensao website is broken.

No it is not. because mason took his permission back, and as much as we'd like for that to be allowed its up to the developers from whom the code was stolen from or up to the devs to just remove those elements and you know, do their own shite instead.

here's one thing however I just don't understand. Dm, or ultrapower clones for that matter weren't the only things to do this and mostly get away with it. Look at prometheus, and no it doesn't make a difference that prometheus is a mud. What did jack do? He took kosmos code, and heavily modified it to the point where you'd need to have had a look at the original kosmos database to tell that it was in fact based off kosmos. However I didn't see people ever complaining about promo having done this even though it is very obvious from how some planet names are still the same, or how earth is located in sector 4 etc. Suddenly this game does the exact same thing, taking up code and making it a million times better than (no offense) mason and ns could ever make up, and instantly there's a flame war, accusations about who stole whose code when thrown around, and servers being hacked. Could you please explain that?

Hi.
I am plazing this game for two weeks or so and I really like the concept. Some things are not translated yet, some stores for example and I sometimes can transition to another arria due to some reason I don't know, but in general, this thing is great.
Greetings Moritz.

Many people have complained about many clones. People have complained about Miriani being a ripoff of Star Conquest. They've complained about any number of Cosmos clones, though it's true I don't ever specifically remember seeing any about prometheus. People complain all the time about games that are clones, sometimes even if they don't share code (see the beginning of the manamon topic.) This is nothing new.

@simba I think the reason that you can't move from area to area now is there's a small wait time of around 20 seconds or so. If you put the message through google translation, it says"wait your turn to pass" so it's not a bug.

Hi, I sent a p.m. Please can I get the link? I'm not sure if it went through, but if it didn't, please can I get the link?

Hello.
I sent you a pm.

@13
Its not the code itself they improved, its the maps. With the extremely customisable map system UltraPower had, you could always change the feel of the game itself. I don't know if you remember when Mason allowed self-hosted servers, but many maps were created around that time. I've got a folder here with probably 150 of them. If I were to start a server, create a map, lets call it city for example, then add different businesses, houses, waterways, bridges, etc, take some more maps from this folder, then ask a couple people if they would be willing to help me, I could almost totally change the idea. Of course change a few sounds, prompts, remove some unneeded weapons, then release it to the forum. You guys would be sooo happy, and be thanking me for creating this amazing new game.

Also, with this "I sent you a PM" stuff! If you have to use PM in order to distribute a copy of the game... I think you know where I'm going with this.
It would be nice if everyone involved in the original development would say straight yes or no so these topics wouldn't keep coming up.

Thumbs up +1

actually, no, that's not all they did. They coded the pacifist system which was not around in up. They also coded the death sequence where you had to run through the tunnel, the quest system, the shop systems (up had a store but this actually has different stores with different items and opening and closing times), the casino game/s, all the special items like darts projectiles and whatnot, and the entire system with buying passports and flying! to other cities. Also I think there is also a system of building a home of some sort but I admit I can't be too sure about that.
