While screwing around, I tossed together a very stupid little game that is actually really addicting. It does use a song that I do not own the rights to (Paul Engemann's Push It To The Limit), but I hope people will forgive that just because the whole game's idea was inspired by the song coming on the radio.

I fully intend to delete the game and the high score list in a few days, so that Paul Engemann doesn't show up at my house to beat me up. In the mean time, people can race to get high scores. All scores get submitted to a little online list so people can try to one-up each other.

I was driving home from the store and this song came on the radio. I thought up the game, and tossed it together in about 20-30 minutes just for a laugh. I'm already frik'in amazed by the scores people have pulled off, and I can't wait to see how the score board looks when I get home from work tonight!

After a lot of trial and error, I am proud to say that I have created a script to play this game! I'll release the autoit source code once the scoreboards are taken down. But I have managed to score a solid 108 points using the script. I of course did not post any of these scores as that's just cheating. I can make a recording as proof. I've heard the song like 12 times now so it's kind of stuck in my head now. A good intellectual exercise for the evening, Aprone!

Key, nice job. My little python script using time.sleep() only gets me up to 104. That function is clearly not an accurate way of measuring time, even a response time of 0.02 - or 20 milliseconds is not consistent. Perhaps I'll go back and push it further with a better way of measuring time, but it does go to show how awesome a human score of 50 is, did not think we were going to see that.

I like this little game but it's a bit too slow at the beginning.
How about doing a game with the reverse?
You start fast and have to slow down to the end.
If your hit of the key is shorter than the last, you get the bad sound, if it is longer you get the good sound.

I think for this song, it makes more sense to start slower and speed up. It's more about pushing things to the limit, rather than starting at the limit and easing things back down.

Hi Aprone,
I only check the forums sporadically and I just missed this game. Seeing as how the comments people have posted about it were about some sort of addictive musical gameplay, I think it could still work if you use a different, non copyrighted track. It is a little disappointing to me when copyright kills something with a fun potential, which this thing seemed to have. I'd be willing to try and compose a substitute track which negates the need for using copyrighted music. I need an excuse to start writing again. With that said I don't know how long this would take (I hope only a week or two), but I can't promise anything. In any case I couldn't really do it unless I could make sure it worked as intended in-game. I would under no circumstances host the game publicly in its current form, so you wouldn't need to worry. What do you think of this idea? If you like, you can PM me or just reply to this thread.

Make more of less, that way you won't make less of more!

Raygrote, I thank you for the offer, but I'm just going to let this little game drift off into non-existence. It was fun for what it was, but I don't see it having much replay value. If another developer wants to take the idea and make something, then they certainly have my blessing.
