hello I want to let you all know that Jake otherwise known as datajake on the forum here is making a keynote gold voice. a modern one a sapi5 one for windows xp win7 win8 and win10 and beyond. well not sure about xp but at least win7. He has to record more phrases I think to get the voice sounding even better than it is, but once done we should have a very good-sounding modernized keynote gold voice for any windows application based on the free open source festival tts engine. here is a sample of what he has done so far.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/545 … sample.wav

I am looking forward to this new voice. Jake if you could in the future make a small tutorial on how to make festival voices using windows that would be great, thanks.

Heh, that's one way to do it. Still curious as to why you post modern keynote gold topics every 2 months. Though in your defense you did provide a sample. I couldn't imagine that getting as good as the true keynote gold, your synthesizing a synthesized voice there.

I am a web designer, and a game developer. If you wish see me at http://www.samtupy.com

2016-08-26 19:33:18

yes it may not be as good as real keynote gold it may not be exactly the same. but it will be quite close. and close is good enough for me definitely.

This is great! Can't wait to try this one when it's ready for download. I would also be interested in a voice building tutorial myself, so I could make a voice based on the speak and spell or even a votrax voice for sapi5 to provide a more authentic dos box experiance.

Votrax would be a little easier to replicate, as it normally has a flat tone with no algorithm unlike Keynote, which already has one. For what's been done, though, this is a pretty good keynote replica so far. The only way to truly replicate keynote would be to record utterances on a flat tone, and then program the algorithm manually, but seeing as Keynote is not a diphone or hmm-based voice, even that would be questionable.

yes i think jake is doing it the best way so far. I too would love a voice-building tutorial for festival on windows. we could have a doubleTalk sapi5 then also perhaps.

hey i just got the following email from jake it is below.
jake writes:
I recorded 1000 more phrases. It is compiling rite now. The voice is a
bit more than half way done.

hey jake i think you are really onto something as far as preserving old
tts engines goes. I think festival is the way to do it. so far keynote
gold festival sounds really really good. with more phrases recorded I
think the final result will be something that is almost
indistinguishable from the original keynote gold but a nice sapi5
version. festival for what it is, is quite amaizing. also I will be
buying the orbit reader 20 when it comes out in a little over a month or
so.

So how do you guys do this? With which program, how do you use that program etc

I post sounds I record to freesound. Click here to visit my freesound page
I usually post game recordings to anyaudio. Click here to visit my anyaudio page

well jake is using festival for windows the festival voice-building tools and he is recording keynote gold multimedia using talking dosbox to make it say different phrases into .wav files. and that is all I know for now.

I have some other ideas of voices I'd do when a festival voice building tutorial comes along. Mainly dectalk 4.3, radar overseer skotty and sp-025. Heck, I might even throw legality to the wind and do one based on the angry video game nerd's voice.

Hi,
The program I use is called mnlp editor, but the gui is not very accessible, so I have to use nvda's object navigation to use the program. So far, I have recorded 2000 phrases and it is still compiling after about 8 hours. The compilation process uses a lot of ram and cpu. Once when I was compiling, The application was using 97% cpu and 4.7 gb of ram. The system that I record and compile this on is a del xps 13 9350 with a 2.20 ghz Intel Core I7 processer with 16 gb of ram. I use a Braillenote Apex with a patch cable to record the samples.

where do you get this mnlp editor from?

2016-08-27 03:39:45 (edited by datajake1999 2016-08-27 03:43:00)

You can get the mnlp editor from http://grossgang.com/tts/circum%20reality/
It uses festival as the underlying speech engine even though the app says it is circum reality.

2016-08-27 03:48:23

is the sapi voice responsive or does it have a lot of lag?

2016-08-27 03:57:07

The voices have a lot of lag.

2016-08-27 04:19:57

ok i'm running windows10 64 bit i got the mnlp editor downloaded it i put it in c:\program files\ since i got a 64bit system i also got the keynote gold .tts voice. put it in the mxack voices folder i ran mnlp editor as administrator i had to hit tab 2 or 3 times and then i clicked i want to use a voice. i chose keynote gold. it said ok you can now use the voice. but then when i try and choose it, it says this voice cannot be played. when i restart the computer the voice still shows up. how do i remove sapi voices? maybe I did something wrong here?

2016-08-27 04:35:41

i tried running regsvr32 circumsapi.dll and after that restarted NVDA it still can't load the voice other problem is I can't remove the voices I added out of the sapi5 voices list. guess if worst comes to worse I can just hit reset this pc and have it wipe everything and reinstall windows10... hopefully I won't have to do that though.

2016-08-27 05:32:00

figured out how to get rid of the voices that don't seem to work in windows10. I had to go into the windows10 registry and delete them manually after restarting the machine the keynote and others I added with mnlp are gone. not sure why they do not work with windows10. but they don't seem to. oh well. I'm still very excited about getting the orbit 20 braille display!

2016-08-27 15:56:05

When I install the voice into my Windows XP virtual machine, it doesn't speak. When I select Keynote Gold in NVDA, I get no audio output. When I try to select it in the control panel under speech, I get an error. I followed the instructions and the program said the voice was now available to use in SAPI applications. What am I doing wrong?

I'm having the same issue with my PC running win7 64 bit. Note that I've downloaded the X64 installer, not the X86 as shown on the top of the page. Anyway I might try it on my other PC running win10 but that might not work too smile

2016-08-27 21:40:51

You have to use the x86 version even on 64 bit because most sapi applications are 32 bit.
