Hi,
I found the version of l&h tts 3000 that has sapi4 versions of Michael and Michelle, as wel as a version of truvoice that does a lot of wierd things.

Thanks jake. It's kinda sad that michael and michelle were only voices to survive the transition to sapi5. There was also a 3rd japanese tts3000 voice (kengy) that was only available for sapi5. Finding that one is a bitch though, because I think it was only included with older versions of kerswiel3000 I believe. The only reason I know of that one is because my mother's alma mater, Origon State University, had that voice on one of the computers.
Update: kengie was atually one of the default tts 3000 voices carried over to sapi 5. That being said, my rant about how difficult it is to find it only applies to the sapi 5 version. Again, It's said to see peter (UK) and karol didn't get ported to sapi 5 in the same way michale and michelle did.

I never particularly cared for the MSTTS Michael and Michelle voices, but they certainly got the job done back in the days of Jim Kitchens' games.

If I'm not mistaken, those voices didn't make it to Win8.  I imagine the newer voices just replaced them, while still running the SAPI5 engine.

Will they work on a win7 64 bit PC? I seriously need a better voice then MS anna to play various games with. I'm not a fan of the ESpeak voices, so if anyone has any suggestions...
Thanks for any help.

2016-07-06 23:46:59

Yes, they work on windows 7 64 bit. However, these voices are sapi4, and most audio games only support sapi5.

2016-07-06 23:52:06

REGUARDLESS of weather or not sapi4 works on 64 bit windows 7, most audio games use sapi5, so using these voices with them is out of the question. Fortunately, jake has the sapi5 versions of michael and michelle on his website.

You can install an SAPI5 version of Dectalk voices.  I just grabbed that file from a post on this side of the forum which was probably posted years ago.

I will find it and update the link if you or anyone is interested.

Edit: I think it was actually Jake's website that I found it.

Thanks luke. Btw, jake aso has a sapi5 version of dectalk 4.61, different from the one previously linked to (4.64 I believe). Look in the "old software synths" section for a file named dectalk reader 1.iso. Be warned that unless you're running windows 8, you will need a program that can mount iso immages (I personally use win cd emu, but demon tools and alkahaul work well too. The only reason I don't recommend them anymore is that the free edditions install some PUPS (potentially unwanted programs) that could cause irreparable dammage to your pc.)

Thanks for the help guys, again, that's very much appreciated! I'm really looking to break away from Anna. lol

Your welcome, mike. Finding good sapi5 voices, let alone legal ones, can be a real bitch.

Don't get me started on MSAnna.  I had the unpleasureable experience of using her voice for many programs.  I bought a voice from Cereproc which wasn't worth the money seeing as how I got the Dectalk voices for free.

Well I suppose it could be worse. Mutch worse. I remember how horrible it was being stuck with ms sam for god fucking knows how long because bit torrent didn't exist back then. The only tts voices I had legal coppies of in those early years that aren't locked to specific programs were ms sam, tts3000, and ATT natural voices, and that one only had mike on it because I got it through APH who only had that voice.

The sapi5 dectalk that is in the iso image is the same dectalk sapi5 that was posted about a year ago.

OK. And don't get me started on the sapi5 version of ETI eloquence. Code factory charges $70 for that. That's a fucking ripoff, considering there were free, legal ways to get it for a while now (jaws, window eyes, the accessible SV games, and now the NFDSA addon).

Ok, I was on the site and in the TTs section, but was unsure of which file to download. lol so I downloaded the, •  Sapi5_MikeAndMary.msi file.
Was that right? Btw, what about the Neospeech sapi5.exe file that's there, will that work with my win7 64 bit PC?

Thanks!

Yes it will, but until you follow jake's instructions in the same folder, it will run in demo mode, where it will keep pestering you to regester it, and those annoying reminders could drive you to put a nice bullet hole in your CPU.

@ammericandad2005 What exactly is the NFDSA addon?

Oh no! Somebody released the h key! Everybody run and hide!

2016-07-07 14:23:43

I ment to say NVDA not NFDSA. Sorry for that.

You can get it from either code factory or AT guys, but I'm warning you, it's not going to be worth the high price, especially if you use something like NVDA, which has an eloquence add-on available.

The version included with jaws is unfortunately tied to jaws, as it doesn't include the SAPI implementations (a choice probably made by fs to avoid legal problems in regards to exploiting it for use in games or other applications). Rs solo was once also available with jaws (but only the cd version due to space reasons) for sapi5, but that was replaced by rs solo direct and later vocalizer direct, both of which are also locked to jaws. Personally I think that is a bit of a stupid move.

Well, ahmed star prommissed there would be an update to his blind extra addon for NVDA that would add a free version of eloquence that supports sapi5, but that went nowhere. In otherwords, you're screwed.

Yes, I did try out the SAPI5 version that code factory cells, and on Windows 10 at least, if you loaded it the first time, it took as much as 30 seconds to load. So much, in fact, that I thought it crashed. And the code factory addon has annoying crackles in the middle of words. I've heard somewhere that when you pay for the addon the crackling goes away, but that has steered me away from Code Factory's solution. It's like a salesman presenting you with an old rusty car and saying "but hey, if you buy it I'll fix that car for you and make it look like new!"

Hi all, I went to data Jake's site and downloaded and installed, Sapi5_MikeAndMary.msi.
Well, when I open the kitchen's games, and tried to make the sapi5 voice change there. I cycled from MS anna to three slightly different versions of ESpeak, and the last choice was silence.
I didn't hear any Sapi speech or speech of any kind. in fact, I had to go an uninstall Sapi5_MikeAndMary.msi before I was able to get MS Anna to pop back up and give me something for Sapi as I couldn't even figure out how to shut down the Kitchen's game menu. lol

So... any other suggestions for a decent sapi 5 voice to use with Windows 7? Er yeah, win 7 64 bit I should say.
Jakes got a good site and a good resource there. Maybe there's something useful for someone like me. *shrug*

Again, any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid you used the wrong installer. The ..MSI file was ment for windows xp. Jake made a special installer (microsoft sapi5 voices.exe) that should work in windows 7.
