I don't actually have skype at the moment Mike so wouldn't be of much help with that.
I also haven't exactly upgraded my deck building strategy since beta 48 changed the rules, but I can at least explain how one goes about choosing and building decks and the basics of how battles work.
In the main menu there is a "manage your decks" option. You can select from one of 12 blank dec slots (likely your water cards will already be in deck slot one).
You can then use the arrows to move around and examine the cards you own. They are arranged vertically in types, so hit up and down arrows to go to the different types, and left and right to look through them.
E will explain each card, and hitting enter you can choose how many to add the currently selected deck.
To make life easier you can also hold m when selecting a deck to give it a name, for example I have all my decks labeled by elemental type.
Now as to battle and how it works.
As you will have gathered the object is to reduce your opponent's hp to zero by playing cards that do damage. Your attacks can be either physical or magical.
You have seen the elemental weakness system already. For each card you play and for each turn you remain an element, you gain a level in that element. Also as of beta 48 you can gain levels in another element by having three cards of that elemental type in your hand.
The higher level in an element you are, the higher level cards you can play, this means more powerful attacks, but also more specialist cards.
As well as attacks other types of cards include buffs that make defense or attack in physical or magic stronger, debuffs for your opponent which do the same thing, status affect cards such as fear paralysis or sleep that can affect your opponent going or parry and reaction cards that react to what your opponent does.
Each turn you must play or discard a card, and also draw one, which means There are also cards that manipulate your hand and let you draw more cards or draw cards of a specific type.
What each card does is contained on the explanation text of the card you get when you hit e.
You can have a maximum of 4 copies of a card in your deck (though you can have less if you wish), and a deck cannot be greater than 60 cards.
The rest mainly of deck building is reading the cards, putting together good information and strategy, and I confess myself that I still haven't sorted that since rules change in beta 48 that let construct double element decks, one reason why I don't tend to battle online very much although I do often play the minigames online against other people.
Hope some of this helps.

Our souls with high music ringing; O men! It must ever be
That we dwell in our dreaming and singing, A little apart from ye. (Arthur O'Shaughnessy 1873.)
