hi,
My advice is, go for it.  The upgrade process is hassle free. It's like installing a large windows update. If you should decide that you don't like windows 10 you can roll back.

A learning experience is one of those things that say, "You know that thing you just did? Don't do that."

I was nearly about to ask the same question, should I really upgrade to windows 10?

2016-05-02 00:24:56

Oh good! Only a month left. So soon we'll be left the hell alone about bloody Windows 10.

Or will we?

Just myself, as usual.

Are you sure about there being only a month left?

From what I recall , Windows 10 was released on July 29th, 2015, and that we had a year to get the free upgrade if we wanted it. With that said, shouldn't the upgrade offer be effective until July 29th, 2016, which is still three months away?

Note: I'm not 100% certain about the day of the month being the 29th, but I do know that the 29th is close.

The upgrade process is very simple, and Windows 10 is fine.
I would get the upgrade while it's free if I were you.

Hi,
Figment is right, the last chance to get windows 10 for free is 29th July 2016, then buy it or crack it smile

hi all! I've upgraded my pc to windows 10 and it's great! I had windows 8 and then 8.1 but, for my needs, windows 10 is more efficient and it's really good! So, grab it if you can!!!

Hi,
I say first try it in a virtual machine, then you can see if you like everything that's new.

2016-05-02 15:39:28

yes i would say go for it. windows10 is very fast, like windows xp was. if you don't like the default win10 start menu you can install classic shell and get a start menu like that of windows7 or even windows xp and it will still show you your modern win10 apps and also older style windows7 apps as well.

Hi,
Agreed with Cartertemm here. Try it on VMware first if you can. But from my opinion, windows 10 is great. But there is a bit of problem, though. If you're a JAWS user, when you search something in the start menu, and the search result pops up, jaws doesn't want to read it. I don't know if it's fixed with the newer version of JAWS, but when I was using jaws 17 first version that just release, the start menu search result bug doesn't fix yet. I'm now also downgraded to windows 8.1. so I don't know much about windows 10.

Hi! How does NVDA work with windows ten? I was thinking about upgrading too.

2016-05-02 21:05:00

it works the best with windows10 works very very very good!

2016-05-02 23:45:21

People will crack Win10? Have you seen the latest Windows stats? Win7 still has the majority, despite all of M$'s persistent, reckless, irresponsible nagging. Not going to happen. smile

Anyway, I just don't see any point, even if you discount all the spying. I mean, really, what can I do with Win10 that I cannot already do very comfortably with Win 8.1 plus Classic Shell?

Just myself, as usual.

I cloned my Windows 7 set up to another drive, then used that drive to upgrade to Windows 10. Now I have my free Windows 10 product key.

I then went back to Windows 7 by reinstalling my SSD.

I will eventually upgrade to Windows 10, but as long as this install of Windows 7 keeps working, I'll keep using it.

When the time comes that I have to reinstall Windows, I'll upgrade to Windows 10 then.

so, JAWS and/or NVDA work fine with win10?

hi
yeah nvda and jaws works well with win 10 but jaws do not work with the store and with edge and NVDA don't work with word as well but all other things works fine, if you use win 7 they might be much difrens wwhen you upgrade, i upgraded yesterday

2016-05-05 13:08:43

I believe a clean installation of windows 10 is way better than upgrading from an older version of windows.

2016-05-05 21:42:09

yeah i think it's good to do that.

In case you didn't hear, Microsoft is extending the Win10 offer for AT users. I have no idea why, but imagine it must have something to do with the failed accessibility of Win10 so far. It just gives me the shivers, seeing as how I really, really don't want it. No idea how we're supposed to enrol, either.

Just myself, as usual.

2016-05-07 18:59:30

hi,
Accessibility has not failed in windows 10.  The only problem is with the edge browser and a few universal apps.  Everything else generally works very well.

I'd say that was reason enough, to be honest. I mean, you put out a free release of Windows without a working web browser ...

You gets what you pays for. smile

Well, the store doesn't entirely work well, either... unless NVDA has some tricks that I'm unaware of?

hi,
the store does actually work. Also, firefox is more than adequate for browsing needs.

How so? I've gotten it to work, but not consistently... and it passes as barely usable, so I have to be missing something...
