I feel ashamed of calling myself a veteran of the game, knowing most tricks and tips, but I still don't know the combo to the door. haha

So this update has taken a little while due to a brief trip to the netherlands, this is the first focused update we've had in a while, it's mainly focused on the Blackmarket. This came from a bit of spring cleaning with my old Warsim to-do list dev notes, I found quite a few cool Blackmarket ideas I'd forgotten about and thought why not get them all done in one update and finish the Blackmarket once and for all, some of you guys suggested some cool things for it too so thank you! This update is pretty big, including 246 features added and 24 bugs fixed!

**BLACKMARKET COMPLETE**

There are lots of parts of this blackmarket update so they will be split into smaller sub-categories

*GENERAL ADDITIONS*

This is the stuff I couldn't fit in any of the below categories, now you can find out the troop brreakdown in the market, the market can be upgraded by its leader if they have the gold, they will now have a more dynamic treasury and actually can surrender to you instead of always refusing.

* Added cheat '700' fill blackmarket with mercenaries
* Added ability as blackmarket leader to block blackmarket mercs from being hired by bandits
* Added quick management tip when taking over blackmarket
* Added random chance that blackmarket ruler can fully upgrade the market if they have enough gold
* Added ability to ask about the blackmarket's garrison in the central district
* Added ability to speak to random blackmarket locals (dynamic system with over 100 dialogues)
* Added new random amount to blackmarket treasury at game start (between 500 and 10500)
* Added dynamic surrender system for blackmarket rulers if you have 3x their men

*THE HISTORIANS GUILD COMPLETE*

The long awaited complete history guild is here, now you can complete all four years of study so get your notepads ready because that's a lot of exam questions!

* Added randomly generated gang of roughian pickpockets to the blackmarket
* Added 6 different possible hidden dens for the blackmarket pickpockets
* Added pickpocket gang can be broken up in two different ways
* Added random gang may spawn (more likely if market is poor)

*NEW LOCATIONS*

Now the market has been fleshed out with even more locations to find and play around with including a full tour of the market for a shockingly low price of 10 gold! some new stalls and a clock that tells you when the great century festival is coming.

* Added Garralds tours to the central district (blackmarket tour guide for 10 gold)
* Added abandoned row of houses to dockrow (credit PJvG)
* Added magic mushroom stall in Blackmarket
* Added wheel of wealth to blackmarket stalls
* Added stall of many meats to blackmarket stalls (credit PJvG)
* Added celebration clock to the blackmarket central district

*TWEAKS AND BALANCES*

A few changes around troop counts to make things a little more random an interesting.

* Increased cost of blackmarket slaves to 5 gold each
* Increased possible starting goblins for blackmarket goblin leader
* Increased possible starting bandits for blackmarket bandit king
* Rewrote blackmarket treasury text
* Made blackmarket bandit kings troop count randomised in new games
* Increased default market bandit guards
* Increased max blackmarket bandits for bandit king to 2000 (was 1200)
* Increased max blackmarket bandits for bandit warlord to 1300 (was 600)
* Increased max blackmarket bandits normally to 800 (was 400)

*WULF THORENSON*

Wulf is a popular musician in the central district, now his playstyle is better and more dynamic and he can be hired and appear in your celebrations.

A few new encounters surrounding the blackmarket, the idea is to imprint the blackmarket onto other areas of the game than just exploration to imply its importance in the game world, of course these encounters won't appear if the market is destroyed.

Dude, that's, a fucking awesome update!
To be honest, when the black market started expanding allot and taking up so much of your time for updates I was kind of disappointed because I thought their were more pressing matters.
But for how important it is to the game and how much fun it is now, I don't regret it nearly as much, and really enjoy it! Plus all these new additions are just awesome, the dynamic troop counts, random encounters, and extra stalls are particularly cool.
I still believe that some of the black market's sections don't have anything at all to do with a black market, like the history guild though, but what ever it's not that important in the end...
I wish the celebration was more often as well, maybe every 25 years, because otherwise you'll only see it once, maybe twice and only on the longest game type before infinite.


I'm glad to here we have more jokes now, really looking forward to hearing those big_smile

The only thing I don't like is that all these unit types are getting added lately that frankly, well the majority of them are just bad ideas IMO, usually a real reach, and I've never personally found their to be a big lack of unit names anyway.
I wish a bunch of the dumber ones would be removed LOL, and then only better considered ones would be added that make more sense grammar wise and have an actual place, even if it's humorous since I love those.

@defender, Glad you like it, I see what you mean about the history guild and stuff but the idea is that the Blackmarket is essentially an independent city with a fucked up history and lots of weird parts meshed together, as for the celebration, definitely lame that its so rare but I think it adds to how special the event actually is! might consider changing it but it will mess up the lore as its the century festival based around an old 100 year curse on the market smile

Its definitely getting harder to think of ideas for unit types now but my goal with these areas of the game where it's not so much procedurally generated as much as picking from a list, I want to make those lists obnoxiously long so that it'll still feel unique and different

wow, that's a cool update. I am excited on what you'll come up with next. Great work. Are more mini games and mini RPG's planet as well? I think, in Terms of Content, is game is the biggest I've seen in our community, esspecially if the updates Keep coming. This is outstanding as far as I know.

Maybe you could call it a jubilee? if you don't specify Silver, Gold ETC, you can basically do what ever the fuck you want. IMO 33/50 years would be fine too...


And yeah, I get it, quantity is massively important in random generation games, to keep categories of things separate, so that you don't get (if not the exact same thing multiple times) than similar sounding things multiple times, potentially in the same game. After all if your generating say 1000 merc groups or 2000 champeons in a game, you have a high chance of similarity if the player looks at it every time.
But still, their is a point at which it becomes quantity over quality, and I think balancing that is important, plus, it's pretty unlikely that a player will actually look at that sort of thing every time it generates.
I think that if you took a bunch of the shittier sounding units out, then slowly added more only if they were actually sensible and didn't make you do a doubletake when you saw them, you'd still have a good crop of content.
But it's your game, and your more experienced with this than me. I mean I can always take them out manually if I don't like it, then add newly added units I like from each update to my copy anyway, the way  I did with The Wastes.


And just to clarify, when I say a doubletake, I don't mean the funny ones like Pig-Rider, the easy to intuit derivatives like Daggerman, or even necessarily the ones from a specific series like Battlelad as long as it's globally popular enough, I mean ones like Billbearer, Orderbearer, Shortsword Militia, Warwinner, Mountain Crossbow, dagger carrier, ETC that could be less unwieldy (more condensed), just sound kinda underwhelming, or could benefit greatly from an ingame unit description system of some kind, since after all some of those are your own personal touches, and those are one of the best parts of this game IMO and should not be removed if at all possible.
I also realize that their are going to be people that feel this is a total non issue and will say, well just think about it for a moment and guess what he meant, or use your imagination, which is a good point, so if that's the majority, than I'll happily STFU and mod it my self like I said, since I'm lucky enough to be playing a game that allows me to do that with ease. LOL

@Niklas, I hope you enjoy the finished history guild smile and yep would like to add more minirpgs, that's so awesome to hear about the content, I try my best to keep growing the game and adding to it, I really fucking care about warsim and I love what it's grown to become with the help of all you guys, I think it's formed into something unique and interesting and I just hope it continues that way.

@Defender, I appreciate your comments, we definitely don't want to make it random and filled with weird immersion breaking crap, I think perhaps a description coming along with units is a nice idea that I'll note down, also thinking about the mods, perhaps you should make your own mod with only the names you think sound acceptible and then we can support that mod 'Defenders Better Unit Names' Mod hahaha

Hi guys so this update isn't giant like some recent ones but it's got some new content that has taken some work to get done, I'm currently working a little slower at the moment as I've got some income issues I'm trying to sort out but I'm still trying to find time to work on warsim daily.

This update mainly focuses on race suffixes, something I haven't really added to in years to the point where I actually had to dissect the old code and figure out how the system worked again, the new race suffixes were designed to add even more possible races in your games and to make them much more interesting and different, some examples of the kinds of races you could find.

Ungovernable Elves, a group of elves that resist leadership, constantly replacing their rulers and being impossible to vassalise, or Pacifist Orcs, you'll never see them launching an attack on anyone, or Primitive Druids who will be far to savage to speak to you, or Eyeless Gnomes, literally Gnomes without eyes (and their faces will reflect this which is super cool to see in action and freshens up the game) and finally Youthful Goblins, these will have lower stats and childrens faces, finally the childrens face system is in place! so without further ado, here's the actual changelog

**NEW RACE SUFFIXES**

* Added new race suffix 'Pacifist' (race will not attack, only defend)
* Added new race suffix 'Gentle' (same as pacifist) (credit Bookrage)
* Added new race suffix 'Stupid' (race are less civil, lower health and leaders are always given stupid personality) (credit Bookrage)
* Added new race suffix 'Childlike' (race have childrens faces and lower stats)
* Added new race suffix 'Eyeless' (race have no eye parts and lower stats and population level)
* Added new race suffix 'Ever-Young' (race have childrens faces and lower stats)
* Added new race suffix 'Youthful' (race have childrens faces and lower stats)
* Added new race suffix 'Primitive' (race starts with lowest level of civility) (credit bookrage)

**GOBLIN SPEAKER**

A little side feature I worked on, after seeing in a youtube video someone getting confused about goblin diplomacy screen being more just a little info page on the goblin kingdoms I started thinking about goblin diplomacy, it can happen but you need a goblin diplomat, however now there is the chance that you can find a goblin in the throne room willing to train your current diplomat how to speak goblin and thus allow diplomacy with the goblins, I've also added a better explanation of the diplomatic ability you have when viewing the goblin screen without a goblin speaking diplomat

* Added goblin speaker trainer throne room encounter
* Added explaination of goblin diplomatic abilities when in goblin diplomacy screen

Hi guys.
This game is something special.
I have some ideas and bugs.
Firstly, this game doesn't work with jaws anymore, nvda works just fine but jaws seems to be broken.
Also, can you implement a better save system? I tried to deleet my save and i ended up removing the entire folder and the game wouldn't save after that.
What do character names actually do? I havn't heard my name once in the entire game.
Can you please add some kind of story?
I think it would be cool to have your character be playing an MMO with other players, simulated of corse.
It would just be cool.
You could have a simulated acount creation at the begining, and please add the ability to remove saves?

in my opinion, there's actually a Story in the game. It's not linear, but there is a Story, to be exact more than one. It is put together within the game via books, Backgrounds and other game elements, it develops this way.

@Wastelander, caverns and cave trolls is dungeon crawling? but what I really meant is your character really delves into some dungeon and have an adventure.

Nice idea Wylcount. I had a similar Idea before. And if the mini RPG's stay for itself it could be possibly made. Maybe an option could be different kinds and variants of RPG's. This way, mini RPG's or adventures with persons you play could be possible, for example like gamebooks or such, without making warsim itself an pure real RPG. That is, if Huw likes the ideas but that could be a way to go.
