So, I might be the last person on earth to find out about this:
http://ruuk.github.io/service.xbmc.tts/
Install XBMC from there, and it will be totally accessible with NVDA.  This is going to make my wireless remote media viewing so much easier.  I'm not sure if it can be made to run on mac yet, but I sure hope so, seeing as most of my TV episodes are on a mac mini.  Testing continues. Does anyone else use this? Thoughts?

OK, so I have been using it for half an hour, and I already have a problem. But I fixed it!  If you can't log into your youtube with XBMC, get this file:
https://youtubexbmc.googlecode.com/issu … 1036174200
Now, put it in
c:\users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons\plugin.video.youtube
You just want to replace the file that's already there.  Now, everything will work! You need to use your gmail or google apps email address, not your youtube username.

For anyone wondering about the Mac, it works as well. If you don't have sighted help you'll need to manually copy the add-on into the right place, but after that it works. Linux is also supported, which may give me a reason to get a raspberry pai...

Greetings all!

For those who would like to share feedback on the XBMC TTS add on, and XBMC accessibility in general, besides here, please see
This thread
, which is active quite regularly. I myself will be signing up.

Also, Tune In For XBMC , I must say, is quite a joy to use!

I'll be starting an XBMC podcast sometime this week of my own. And if anyone wish to follow with their own, please do!
XBMC is always changing, and different views from different people is good!

So, one thing I can't figure out, probably because I'm an idiot. When I'm watching a video from youtube, how do I like and/or share it? I see the full screen video player, and the list of videos. When I press applications key, some stuff comes up that doesn't read. Is it hiding there? Or is there another accessible way to like and share youtube videos within xbmc.

Hi,

Could this be used to make the Spotify service at least a little bit more accessible?

Hi.
Looking on the website which is linked to in the first post makes me think this software is a virus or something like that without any description on the website. Reading the other posts here in the topic makes it clear: This is useful for sure. But, what the heck is it all about? I'm not asking for a full readme, but I'm just wandering why the website at leased not have any descriptions, like all people world wide of course knows what the software is used for. smile

Best regards SLJ.

Hi,

I am guessing because this is just a plug-in. XBMC i actually pretty well described if you google it smile

@balliol: Spotify is not available in my country, so I have no idea.  But you could try this:

Easier Trick To Logging Into YouTube, Plus Other Things

This trick should work with version 13.0 of XBMC, but since the 13.1 RC2 release fixes some extra bugs that 13.0 brought along, might as well upgrade. And I say, it is indeed stable.
Anyway, the trick to loging in to you tube via XBMC, is to press "enter" on the password field, then "immediately!" press enter again. Note, your password must have been already entered for this  trick to work properly. Finally, arrow  down to "Login," and press enter. You should be logged in to You Tube now.

In the video list, if ya press "C," which works better than the context menu key," options for the particular video will show up in a menu.

Note, you can not like or dislike videos at this time, though you can add them to your favorites.
You can also download videos to your computer too. Make sure ya set that up 1st in "general" tab 1st.

Hope this helps.

@Trenton Goldshark: the problem I was having is that when google texts me my authentication token, XBMC would ask for it, and then just ask for it again and again and not login.  So I'm not sure if your trick would help.  Thanks for the information about the c key, I didn't know about that one.  So, if I can be allowed one more dumb question, how do I tell what version of XBMC I'm running?  I don't see an option in the menu that looks like it might say.

2014-05-26 16:53:45

Go to system but do not enter on it, arrow down then left or right til ya hear "System Info," Press enter on that, then Enter Again on "Summery."
Note, until XBMC TTS is able to read screens that do not  have text inside edit boxes, the jaws/NVDA OCR add on, or equivalent for other systems, is required to read that screen.
Same with the "weather" one.
If only the web viewer was a bit more accessible I say...

Hi,
So this is a kind of operating system for television? This is kind of interesting.

2014-05-26 16:58:07

You can find a list of Keyboard Shortcuts for XBMC, by visiting the following link:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Keyboard_controls

Note, that they are in a "table."

2014-05-26 17:00:09

To the question about XBMC being a television, yes, it is indeed similar to a TV.
Though way more than just for television!

You are also able to use Dropbox with it, for example.

So, another thing I can't make happen: How do I convince the iplayer addon to play the audio descriptions?  I selected them from the audio described category, and assumed that would be enough. But apparently not.

2014-05-26 19:08:04 (edited by queenslight 2014-05-26 19:09:01)

Looking at the iPlayer XBMC page:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Add-on:IPlayer
, it seems that descriptive audio hasn't been supported yet.
Also, a lot of stuff only seems to work for Linux users. The Stuff, being radio "streams."

2014-05-26 20:01:52

I don't see anything on that page that really says either way.

2014-05-27 05:51:52

This sounds pretty interesting. Can this system make Netflix more accessible or is Netflix not supported? Would it for example let me outside the US and UK stream audiodescribed content? I'm not talking about bad stuff like creating fake accounts and not pay for any subscriptions, but pay like all others do, and stream for I pay for in a nice and accessible way.

Best regards SLJ.

@Trenton Goldshark: I was just going to research this this evening; I never got a chance yet because I spent a bunch of time getting XBMC+slingbox going, and looking into getting an IR Blaster.  You're a gold mine! +1

2014-05-27 16:20:10

Ah, you're very welcome!

Enjoy the experience!

By the way, while watching movies, you can press M to bring up a left right menu for movie options. That includes you tube, net flicks, etc. Also, with the play ist menu, if ya press C to bring up the context menu, you can create bookmarks.
There's so much of XBMC I'm still learning.
Its fun!

Hi all,
Can anyone give me detailed instructions as to how to get this working on the Mac? Does the Youtube app in this allow you to watch youtube playlists?
Also, it'd be awesome to get a Tune In alternative on the Mac. Since XBMC is for Mac, that should be good.

2014-05-28 18:39:15

Install XBMC,, then get the addon from the XBMC TTS website, as well as its repo. Then, run XBMC at least once, press the arrow keys to see if it came up. If it did hit command Q to close it. We did this for XBMC to create the appropriate user folders. Now, copy the 2 folders, one for the addon and the other for the repository. Hit Command shift G to open the go to folder dialog and enter ~/library/Application Support/XBMC/addons and paste the 2 folders in. Launch XBMC and you should have speech.

Okay, I've got it  working. Is there a way to browse for a music source?
Also, where is the youtube add-on? There is a bunch of video add ons but the only Youtube one I see for the service in general is Youtube Channels.

Okay I have Youtube but what about Youtube playlist? For instance, I want to get a list of youtube playlists from a channel and be able to watch them, useful for Let's Plays.
Thanks.
