Hi,
Does anyone know of any scripts or program that allows you to use itunes with jaws? If anyone has such a script or program can you please send it to me? Thanks

I believe there was an item on ACB Radio's main menu about this a while back, I forget the guy's name but I believe he makes a lot of scripts for Jaws available to purchase including ITunes. The item should be in their on demand archive under "Main Menu" at www.acbradio.org

Sorry I can't be more specific.

I have the iTunes scripts and love them.  However, they are not cheap and this is why I have a hard time recommending them to people even though I love them.

Head over to

www.hartgen.org

and click on the portable player portal link.  This page describes how to use different mp3 players, both mainstream devices and "specialist" ones, not just the iPod.  On that page is a link talking about iPods, from that page I believe you can find a link telling you about the iTunes swcripts.  You can download a demo version of the scripts that allows you to use them for 10 minutes, after that you need to restart JAWS.  If you like them, you can buy them.

The company that develops the scripts is based out of the UK, but there's a company that sells them here in the U.S.  However,  if you want to buy the scripts new they are $99.99, and upgrades are almost $50.  That is why it's hard to recommend them to people, because that is way, way too expensive.  I know iTunes isn't the easiest application to make accessible, but a sighted person can just download iTunes for free, but blind people have to pay $100 to access it in adition to buying JAWS?  That is way over the top IMO!

HTH, though.  I can try and answer any more questions.

Assuming the UK price is similar that is hugely overpriced. Now of course we have to consider the huge difference in exchange rate, but that would only account for about

The reason I like iTunes is because it's sort of an all in one program.  I just like the way it organizes your music and the interface it uses.  Since I live on campus at college, I can listen to other people's music and they mine as long as we set it up to be shared.  I can listen to someone else's music as long as they have iTunes open, and I can't copy any of their music onto my computer...just listen to it.  I haven't been able to get it to work lately, though. Of course being able to buy songs from the iTunes store is cool too, though right now the scripts only allow you to buy single songs, and you can't just browse the store.

www.tandt-consultancy.com

is the site for the developers of the scripts.  Same company that does the JSay stuff.  Last time I checked they price the scripts new at 35 pounds, up 5 pounds from when I got them.  I got mine before they had a U.S. distributer.  You can see how to get the scripts in the U.S. at

www.ngtvoice.com/products/software/itunes.htm

I'm not sure what the exchange rate between the dollar and the pound is, but those prices seem a bit outragious to me.  Some of it might have to do with overhead and things like that, but still...

Hi,
the only reason i'd have to use itunes is for transfering things to my ipod, if i get one. I think its a waste then, for my uses, to pay that much. Or even pay at all. I was hoping to get them for free.

Simplest way to listen to music on a portable device is to get one that will also operate as a USB flash drive, then just copy and paste in windows explorer. There is also sometimes support in Windows Media Player to move it over to a portable device.

Hi,
I have two questions now. 1, is it possible to transfer stuff to an IPod manually, as in copying it toa drive? If not, would anybody be willing to well, give me the itunes scripts?

There's a program called annapod explorer that allows you to copy music to an iPod in windows explorer.  I'm not sure how much it costs, though.

As for the JAWS scripts, sorry, no go...the scripts are tied to your JAWS serial number so you can't pass them around.  Probably a good thing, given how nonstandard iTunes is.  Heck, iTunes on a mac doesn't even work with Voice Over, Apple's own screen reader!

I would only suggest buying the iTunes scripts if you're like me and like iTunes as a PC music player and managing program, not just to copy music onto your iPod.  In your case, I would go with annopod explorer or better yet, maybe a different mp3 player.  Maybe something like a Creative Zen or the new Zune from Microsoft.
