Hello all,
So today, an Italion developer released a game on iOS that plays similar to time adventures taking place in the Spanish Inquisition. It's got quite a bit of dialogue, apparently over 20000 lines of it, and it was all translated into about three different languages. Italian was the original I believe, English, and also Latin because the game seems to be Catholic based. As the developer points out, this game is also the first ever audio game to ever be translated into Latin, so that's pretty awesome.
I can't say too much about the story. What I can say is that it seems to have quite a number of logic puzzles in it similar to Time adventures or Detective School. The acting is quite nice, asside from the brief pauses when the voice speaks objects and whatnot, but we're all used to that in audio games now.
Here's the website where you listen to a short audio demo that unfortunately cuts off right as the story opens, so you won't get any story, but you'll see how the game plays. No playable game demo is available as of this writing. You can also grab a copy for Mac and Windows here, and it's also available in the iOS store as of today.

Hi again.
Sorry for dubble posting, but I found something interesting:
http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthr … ry_al.html
A forum where they briefly discuss the game. It's clear that this is a mainstream game which also is made accessible from the very beginning, and it seems to be a really long adventure, and looks like it's worth it to complete the game more than once, trying to discover some secrets etc. They also mention a novel version which I'm not totally sure of what is, but sounds like you can read or listen to the whole story, without having to solve the puzzles. Hmm, what is the point of doing that? Well, there has been put sooooo much work into this game, so those guys deserves so much cretit, and I would even pay more for this game than it costs. smile they say that this is only chapter one, and this contains more than 30 fully described inviaments! Holy, wow! Awesome!
Oh, by the way, you can read the Applevis forum to hear more about what people are saying about the game.

Best regards SLJ.

Yes, I too am extremely interested in the ios version. I did read though that the current pc version is only chapter 1 so I too am wondering if we will have six separate episodes. Greetings, Anouk,

was considering purchasing it earlier but it had no reviews yet as it only came out yesterday.
I really hope this is the start of something awesome though

2013-02-28 13:53:05

well, someone have to purchase it to make any reviews! ;-) If no one won't buy it until someone reviews the game, the game will never be reviewed! Have you read what people are saying on the Applevis forum?
I have bought it, but have to wait to download it until I come home to my wifi network. I can't wait to check this out.

Hi all.
So, I took the chance to buy the game, so here comes what you're asking for, a review. smile
The game is a kind of menu based, or point and click game, where you are making all your choices like Time adventures or Private detective School or the Bavisofts games.
As I'm writing this, the game does have some annoying bugs, which I'll contact the developers about as soon as possible. Sometimes, the game misunderstand its own controls, so instead of scrolling through the list of items, they got activated which is annoying as hell. Other times, the game is not responding and works sluggish.
If you're ready to deal with those issues until it's fixed, I highly recommend this game, and it's very much worth the price. It's only an audio game for now, but the audio is pretty great, not the best I've heard, but great. The voice acting is done by a creebby bad guy, which makes the game more interesting. smile
As I'm writing this, I'm hopeless stuck at a place where I have to check my notes in the notebook. I'm doing this, but nothing happens.
I won't spoil anything about the story, but the game is full of extremely long and great cutseens. I especially remember a cutseen so long, so I started to wander if the game has started to play itself. smile The game seems to be really big, and there are many things to explore.
a very important information which is missing in the guide is, that you have to hold the phone or device, so the home button is to the right.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Best regards SLJ.

definitely going to get a hold of this when i've got time to play it. big_smile

2013-03-01 14:49:09

Slj you have to go to your cell to solve the notes puzzle. That confused me for a while to. Just go to your cell crush the spider and go to the book object in the room.

also I'm having that annoying sluggishness bug. It would be helpful if you could scroll forward and back through objects so if I wanted to use something, I wouldn't have to scroll through the 20 items I'm carrying. I could just scroll back one to use the item.

Deep in the human unconscious is a pervasive need for a logical universe that makes sense. But the real universe is always one step beyond logic.

Hi guys, this game is great so far. However, I need help. I knocked out the librerian and poisoned the guard. He gave me the key but what should I do next? I don't find something to open, nobody to talk to and I can't find the secret liberi nor can I unlock the strong box. Can anyone give some tipps?

2013-03-02 23:07:56

first: after you talk with the father you must go to the balcony and in the stable and talk with the stablehand the think with the gems in on the end.

second: you must collect 3 metal parts and open the trapdoor in the lader. Then you can hide the corpse and you will find the secret library.
I am in capter 2 but what can i do with the corpse hm.

2013-03-03 15:45:15

Hi.
I have found the book I need in the secret library. I must figure out something before I can talk to the guy in the study room in the main corridor. I'm pretty much stuck. I still have the scrap 7 which I can't figure out how to read. Any hints?

2013-03-03 18:34:33

Hi again.
I've wrote a better review about the game. Enjoy, smile

The Inquisitor is a point and click, or, menu driven audio based adventure game. The controls are described in the game, but I'll briefly go over those anyway, because I'll discuss some navigating issues which don't makes sense if you don't know the controls:
Single tab with one finger: Select next item.
Single tab with two fingers: Choose the selected item.
Swipe down with one finger: Inventory.
Swipe left with one finger: Notebook.
Swipe up with one finger: Map.
Swipe right with one finger: should tell you your mission, but that won't work for me.
Drawing a cross: Hints, but that won't work for me either. Well, I hope it's just me who are doing it wrong though. smile

First I wanna tell the bad things about the game, which I really hope will be fixed in an update:
I find the controls extremely clumsy and annoying. When going through the menus by tabbing once with one finger, the game chooses randomly in the menus. That means if you are counting the menu items, you'll find that the game choose a menu item which you didn't expected, and other times it randomly jumps over some of the menu items, and you have to keep pressing 15 or 20 times until you finally have found what you're looking for.
Especially in the inventory, I find the game to automatically pick an item which is done by pressing once with two fingers, when I only press with one finger to go through my inventory. that's bluddy annoying, especially when having more than 10 items in the inventory.
Pretty often, I find the game to crash randomly when going through the menus. It just closes, and I'm back on the home screen with VOiceover turned off, and I found myself opening random apps. Not a good thing. smile
Having all that said, I haven't tried to reinstall the game because I will then have to start from scratch, but I'll consider doing so if I'm the only one who have those issues.

Now, to the great stuff:

The game is really good, and it have a great story. There are many puzzles, and I find the difficulty level to be pretty high, because there are used many english words, which I find pretty difficult to understand because english isn't my default language. the game is full of cutseens, and some of them are very long. The audio could have been  better, but the music is awesome. The voiceover of the main character is awesome, and sometimes pretty creepy. smile
The developers says that there's 6 to 8 hours of gameplay, but I think I've played it more than that, and as I'm writing this, I'm only half through the game.
All the areas are very well described, and there are many things which just fits nicely into the game, but you don't have to use. That makes it harder to solve the puzzles, because there are many combinations.
In some puzzles, the game kind of plays automatically which I have mixed feelings about. I'm not sure, but it seems as you can easily miss some important cutseens, because you might expect to do the puzzle manually, but then the game does that automatically, so you might end up pressing the screen, which might skip some cutseens. That means you sometimes have to wait a few seconds to see if the game is loading or if you have to do the puzzle on your own.

Conklution:

Is the game worth the price? Now I'm a gamer, so I'll say yes! smile
Thinking of how much narration the game offers, the full translation in three different languages, all those long cutseens, lots and lots of puzzles, minigames which I haven't seen yet and the upcomming graphical versions, I'll say the game is very much worth the price, especially when those issues are fixed. But if you're not into puzzle solving and clicking through a menu to play a game, it might not be for you.

I'm really enjoying the game, and I'm looking very much forward to see what the developers are going to release in the future.

Best regards SLJ.

Hello all. When I find the secret library, what do I use for the fire? The beam  from the courtyard will not work.

Nice game, the latin language convinced me to buy it. I just bought it.
