Hi,
Do any of you know of a program that can sit in the system tray, check email addresses periodically and notify you if there is new mail? I know you can do this with Outlook, by leving it open and setting it to check periodically, but I'd rather not have outlook open. I mean a program which would check for mail on the mail server without actually downloading the mail.

if you're using gmail then they have their own notyfier.
for others there's one, which is not exactly designed for that but it does it, the cyber buddy
it also has some other features which are handy and it has text to speech.
