Hi all,

for the first patch, new systems are coded:

1. background mode, this takes care of hiding result messages while harvesting and woodcutting. But will take care that two summaries will be shown as soon as you end the activitie, or your energy gets to low. The first one will show how many harvestables you harvested or how many logs you have cut. The second one will summarize the amounts of hitpoints, gold, energy etc you have lost or gained due to random events which won't be shown either.
2. Via the character information screen it now is possible to enable add-ons, but you can't disable them. to prevent confusion or breaking of things.
3. a new enemy is introduced on the beach.
4. two new enemies will be introduced in the forest. Am still editting the area, so random encounters will be dealth with properly.
5. the floathing piece of toilet paper will retire from patch 3.1, it is replaced with a mud blob, looks more professional doesn't it?
6. updated the descriptions of the rat and the enchanted mushroom, cause they really were messed up.

The patch is slowly crawling to it's release, the people who have purchased the add-on, won't have to do anything, we will send out new links as soon as the stuff is ready. The peeps who are playing with the free game, can download a new package when it gets available on the server. Save files will be compatible in both cases, so no worries about that smile

Sounds good, I'm afraid I did find the floathing piece of toilet paper a little silly. having a background mode for activities will make it far easier to play the game in the background while you take care of something else.

One suggestion I do have, is it'd be awesome to have a few challenges to work towards that need really high craft levels,EG some badges or achievements or some amazingly cool recipes.

I'm having trouble downloading the game. I go to your page, I go to the game's page, then when I click on Download for Windows... nothing happens. The connection times out. I know it isn't my network, I tried on both my college's network and my Mobile Hotspot. Does anyone happen to have a way for me to download this? Thanks.

This morning i realized why the old achievement system didn't work, thus, you landing a fis a few times for example, and you got an achievement point. This will be fixed in the patch as well. And i think it is time to introduce the achievement store, in which you can spend your gained achievement points. I was thinking enabling an extra max health per point, an extra point in energy, the raise of your minimal hit or maximal hit. But do you or the community have other suggestions we can add? smile Cause the community really has good ideas, most of them i haven't
thought of myself yet big_smile
But we have plans to introduce new achievements as wel, not only this kind, by just doing things, but for example when you complete a chain of quests.  These will give other benefits then achievement points only. These only won't be added in the patch. Cause we haven't got around designing them yet. smile

I will test it when i get home, i am at work atm, and this network is more secure then fort knocks every so often. When the problem persists, i will send you a different link via pm or via the email link, just depents on what you prefer.

well for one. I'd just like to have titles or something we could have for our characters.

For example, our character is named Gregory. When He has his harvesting level up high enough, he can choose to add a title "The Harvester" to his name and so when the game talks to him characters will say "Gregory the Harvester" and if he gets an even higher level of harvesting, he can be called "Gregory the Bounteous." or something like that.

Also, the idea for super-harvestables or super-recipes seems like a really good idea to me.

And alternatively, with the titles and increasing stats you suggested, a title could be like a piece of equipment. You can only have one title at a time but it has an effect on your stats. This would combine flavor and practicality into one aspect of gameplay. For example, "Gregory the Bounteous" gets slightly better effects from food while "Gregory the Forester" (for chopping wood) gets a slightly higher attack and maybe a higher minimum attack damage or possibly instead more energy.

That are very good suggestions, i will note them down, i can't promise they will be in in the patch or in beta 4, but i definately will add them smile But do you suggest a player can switch their title freely? So when a player needs more attack that he or she switches to the woodcutter title, and for example when the player needs more hitpoints that he or she switches to the combatant title?

This can open up interesting new playing styles. but as said, it is noted and will eventually make it into the game smile

But yes, in my oppinion the screenreader support works the best with nvda, jaws works fine too, but can have some strange behaviour, which is common in bgt games, and the good old sapi smile

in regards to being able to change titles on the fly, you might want to do some playtesting. If it makes things too easy, you might want to put something that makes it a little harder to do. For example you might require a gold fee and/or a special NPC to equip or change a title, perhaps a bard or a town crier, or change it a bit depending on area.

Alternatively or additionally, if it proves too easy, you might have the requirement that you can only change your title once per season or something like that.


Also to keep a lot of tricky stuff out of the way, keep a lot of titles simply cosmetic and only meake the really tough ones matter. You'll have to play around with it to make sure it doesn't unbalance things.

I have a couple questions.
One: Why doesn’t the SAPI setting menu actually do anything? It seems as though you can set the pitch and rate but it only actually takes effect in the speech menu itself. For example, I have mine set to Espeak, rate 6, but the menus are spoken with Microsoft David at Rate 0.

I think that the seasonal thing and the towncryer are very solid basics on how and when someone can change it. But as you said, it will require a lot of balancing and/or careful design, but i am sure we can find something which will work the best for everyone smile
As said, it is listed for the future, cause it is a very interesting idea, creating perks or vaults regarding someones playstyle.

I am not the Original creator of this class, but have you also tried it with your screenreader? Or do you prefer sapi as method of output? I am not evading your question, but i want to get a clear picture before i give a solution smile

Indeed, that's what i heard from others as well, that's why i am still trying to find a solution. I mean, with quest descriptions it is simple to add, i only have to introduce a new keypress. This would be a good starting point. The room descriptions can also be repeated, by adding an option to the menu's which give you the chance to listen to the description again, but i am a bit hesitant to add this kind of solution, cause it will add another option to the menus, unless i create an option in the options menu which will hide those options when players don't want to see it …

I am thinking out loud guys, but … Any thoughts regarding this? smile

I have had very little time to test, but maybe remove the go north, south, east awest options from the menu and do n, e, s and w for north, east, south and west respectively and do a for accept, d for decline. Maybe pressing space could repeat the latest prompt.

I think perhaps another method of travel might be better than just picking "go north" etc might be good. maybe do it like a mud and say at the end of a description exits: (ways a player can exit a room) and then just have hotkeys for movement. This would make travel faster and easier than it is now.

About the new method of navigation, i don't think that this will be done, cause this will require a complete rewrite of most of the codebase. But i will bring it up in the team to see on how we can inprove upon it. But no promises, it is very possible it stays as it is.

I found a small bug. If you don't have enough money for something, then go out and make that money, then come back to try and buy it, it will still tell you you have insufficient funds. I had to restart the game to fix this.

May i  ask in which store you encounter this bug? Is it in the general store of dalgrim?

The events are area specific, for example you only will encounter the grass snake biting you in the dalgrim road area, and the thunderstorm in the forest one. All areas except the castlevania one have random events, and more will be added for each area over time smile

Our tests with the mac port looked promising. It always is possible that strange behaviour can occur, but the tests we did looked good. This is not specific ffor mac ports, but this also can occur to windows games of course.

You can rent  room in the tavern for a full restore of your energy and hitpoints. You also can cook food and eat it from your inventory to restore a few points of both.
